I was hiking about 3 months ago and past by the “Black Magic” hut. There was a Chinese lady who works as a grave caretaker. She uses the hut to rest or cook her meals during her break time. I spoke to her to ask for directions and also asked her if she stays overnight here in the hut. She replied she doesn’t stay over, she is only here during the day time. Hope this helps.

some trivia: - the music players and some lights are powered by solar panels. - the hut with the "black magic", seems like some person lives there. lots of idols of deities inside. near the hut is a side path that one can use to get to the Mt Pleasant cemetery. side note, you might want to check that place out as it's worse than Bt Brown, and there are barely any paved roads, is overgrown and there are lots of snakes. And one of the graves has KMT soldiers instead of the Gurkha guards. - there's another side path after the hut which leads to the Riding for the Disabled academy. - there's another hut where someone stays which is on the way towards Kheam Hock Road. - there's a temple on a hill in the middle of the cemetery, next to the PIE. - people regularly drive in to pray for luck and fortune, sometimes in large groups. the best time to visit at night is during the 7th month. usually the rituals in the 7th month are taoist rituals.

i don't think there is a family staying at the "hut", that guy was just probably exaggerating. he wanted to challenge you to an "uji nyali", or a test of courage, which is just a thing a lot of malay paranormal channels do where they just isolate you in a spooky area for a period of time, usually about 30 mins, sometimes with "rituals" preceding the test so as to spook the participants before they start. i do know that those rest areas are for the caretakers of the cemetery to store their equipment as well as for them to rest in between cleanings. some of the caretakers do stay overnight depending on what work they have but they also have regular homes outside of bukit brown. great content as always though sushi. i appreciate that you always have a cohesive story to tell with the material you capture.

at the 28sec mark at the entrance, last year during the 7th month I took a photo which 4 different people who didn't know each other saw the same apparition, and one of them saw more than that. I go in alone to take photos during the 7th month or Qing Ming for the past few years at night, and run in there frequently in the late mornings or late afternoons. Some people say staying among the graves is the most peaceful existence, day or night! So, I decided to take some pictures of a huge graveyard in the late afternoon to capture the peacefulness. Before snapping away, I asked for permission from the ho-hia tee. The scene was indeed peaceful & serene despite it near a major road - swaying tall lalang grasses bathed in orange light played by a cool breeze in contrast to the still grave stones with deceased facial photos. When I checked my photos later in the evening to select the best shot for a local blog, to my astonishment, I found 2 distant grave stones in sharp contrast to the off focused surrounding & other graves. And there staring back at me were 2 grave stone photos (in black & white) of a couple with a stern expression. About a week later, I was injured with a slip disc. A therapist told me from my pale facial & injury that I faced a life threatening situation without further clarifying. Something as peaceful as a graveyard may not be WYSIWYG without the help of a close up camera!!!
