Hey Frank, Thanks for all your methodical work on these rifles, scopes, and aftermarket options. The RPR and now the Tikka, it gives the layman a very real idea of what is possible and affordable. I don't have a lifetime of range time that you have, but I see whats achievable and your schooling videos are excellent. Down here in New Zealand quite a few bunnies and deer might not be so appreciative of the knowledge trickle down. Cheers Tom

I had a browning x-bolt in 300 win mag. Best thing I ever did was sell it and buy a tikka in the same caliber. Went to the range with the cheapest ammo I could find (Remington core-lokt) and shot half MOA out of the box very impressed!! got a moose hunt in September hopefully put the rifle to work.

Looking forward for Tikka T3X TAC A1. I have been shooting with T3 Varmint .308 for a long time and only minus side has been the original plastic 5 round magazine. T3x and CTR have already fixed this issue, but TAC A1 might be my next purchase.

Thanks for the vid and especially the series on upgrading the Tikka. I always liked the T3 but was too entrenched in the 'it has to be a 700 to be upgradable' mentality. Maybe have to look at them again after my M40A1 project is in the bag.

Wow! Tikka seem to be consistently awesome right out of the box. I'm interested to see what you gain from the upgrades? Are you also going to cover the cost of your upgrades? Tikka is very interesting to those of us that are on a budget . Thank you I look forward to seeing the rest of your videos.

Great to see you guys finally doing a review on tikka rifles. In my opinion, you don't need to change out the barrel and trigger. It's not a Remington 😜 I've owned several tikka's and I shoot them in competition against custom built rifles and other factory rifles. I've never found it wanting I look forward to seeing your "up grades" and see if the improve it in any way.

I own "A" Tikka that I hunt with and I use to own another 2 that I varmint(223) and a LR Target(Super varmint 7mm R M) and I live all of them on its standard configurations. I didn't have the money to do all the upgrades I wish so I sold my LR rifle and bought a RPR in 6.5CM. My opinion is, they are 2 different "beasts" out of the box and if you want to compare "rifle x rifle" I think the Ruger Predator Rifle is the one to compare with the tikka. However I understand all the "customisation" of any rifle I also like to see what will happen if keep the original barrel as they are great too.

I'm dying to see how the prime 260 ammo shot in this gun with no mods...hurry up already well ya! lol... Will follow this video series with great interest...I own 8 T3 rifles, some slightly modified but mostly stock...they are by far the the best factory rifle you can buy for the price...I out shoot many guys at my range shooting guns that cost 10x as much... I change to a steel lug (which is now factory on all T3x guns) and fully float the barrels in the factory stock and if they shoot well I leave it at that. Hand loading really brings out the accuracy in these guns. Will be very interesting to see how the modified gun you have planned shoots compared to out of the box,...I think everyone will be surprised how well the factory gun will perform.

You did a review on the Ruger Precision rifle how about one on the Mossberg MVP-LC in 7.62X51 (308) and if it would be difficult or a good idea to change out the barrel to 6.5 Creedmore.

My T3 270wsm is a sub 1/2 min gun out of the box. Paid 750$ can for it... Besides upgrading the recoil pad I honestly don't wanna mess with anything. Best shooting gun I've ever owned. Plus I'm primarily a hunter. Those Souther Alberta deer better watch out this November. Lol. Amazing rifles.

It's not my first rodeo, I know when to change a barrel, and not too... This one will have at least 1000 rounds through it before i change. It's only a 20" which is a great handy rifle but you leave a lot on the table with a 260. I have a 24" coming so there is really no reason to keep the factory barrel on it beyond 1000 rounds as a little longer is better
@jaycupples43628 жыл бұрын
I have a Ctr in 260 I'd agree with you the 20 in. Leaves some velocity on the table 140gr Berger's running like 2645fps. Enjoy the videos!

Which XTR II model is that? I just purchased a 24' 6.5 creedmoor CTR. I've been looking at the 3-15, 4-20, and 5-25. I'm hoping to take it out past 1200 yards at a long range rifle class. My local range goes out to 1200 yards so my most of my shooting will from there and in. Thanks for the review.

Frank...Can you please do the tikka ctr in 308? I'm here in Alaska and was talking to a gentleman that owns Wiggies, I believe your well acquainted with the long range course hes been putting on. I believe he was of the opinion I buy another caliber. However it's what I have to work with and it's time for a new barrel. I want to order at least a 24" left handed gain twist with 5R rifling. Do you have any recommendations for me? I'd like to run 178gr ammo.
@josephward27537 жыл бұрын
Lowlight, i was wondering now that you have done the tikka and the RPR. Given the new tikka tac a1. Which one would you chose, or rwcomend, for a PRS production class rifle? They are both so very close to each other.

First hunting rifle I bought was a t3 lite stainless. Pretty much 3/4 min with almost all hunting loads. FGMM was closer to half MOA. I'm not surprised by this rifle. Just wish it had a short action

Why would the action length matter to you? especially in a hunting rifle
@K-bob_458 жыл бұрын
EnterTheFenix It was just a pet peeve. It didn't affect performance I just didn't like it. I know they only produced one action length to cut cost.

Great review. One question- if this rifle shoots 1/4-1/3 moa out of the box, why upgrade? In other words how much better for all the $$$ spent do you expect it to shoot? 1/8moa?
@SHLowlight7 жыл бұрын
Different stock, the plastic one is not that great, barrels burn out, why does it matter why "I" upgraded it, It's a great base platform, showing the ability to customize said great base platforms helps inform long term buying choices

SHLowlight thanks for the fast reply, it makes sense now. I have a savage10fvp-sr in 6.5cm that shoots 1/4-1/3 moa with my handloads which is about the limits of my shooting. savage is a nice beginner gun thatll just shoot damn accurate, tikka is one of those guns you just buy for yourself. the quality is far beyond its price range. i have yet to hold a tikka i cant chamber a round using one finger. the actions are butter.

@SHLowlight8 жыл бұрын
One day you guys will get a clue, that I am demonstrating what options are available, and how a person can buy an entry level system and not be stuck with it. That you can indeed upgrade it over time. The fact I have resources and can change everything at once is not the point, the point is you can make a factory rifle better without having to start off with a full custom build. Your myopic view of the world is entertaining but what we are doing is clearly over your head.

I have done the same thing with a Savage model 10 FCP HS Precision. Stripped the stock, barrel, barrel nut, recoil lug, and accu trigger off and sold them. Then went through and put an XLR chassis with folding stock, Rifle Basics 14oz-3lbs adjustable trigger, Criterion varmint contour 26" stainless barrel (which is now 24" and threaded muzzle), and North Land Shooter Supply barrel nut and recoil lug back on it. I totally understand what is being demonstrated in the video. You can buy something that works for you initially to get started and grow into something more as you can afford it. I've put together several AR-15's in 5.56 and 6.5 Grendel and one LR-308 over the past several years. Now I'm looking at what I want to put together for another bolt action rifle. Different strokes for different folks is what it comes down to.

how bout instead of making an initial investment in a gun and replacing every single piece of it, you pick parts from other guns that have traits that you like and make a completely custom gun. without wasting 7 or 800 dollars. I mean at the end of the project you can't even say the gun is a tikka. thats like buying a car then switching oit every part then at the end throw the badging from the original and saying thats what it is. just dont understand
@alexgeislinger60218 жыл бұрын
in my opinion the barrel and stock are like the engine and chassis of a car as long as one stays you may call it what came from the factory as.
@SHLowlight8 жыл бұрын
How about do your own video... you don't understand the point and I am not gonna explain it to you

Not sure why people would buy a rifle than tear it down to make another. Guess they have too much money. I would just start with a full custom one off for all that time and money.
@newalbion14977 жыл бұрын
Seriously ! What the hell is the point if your gona change the stock, the barrel and the trigger etc ITS NO LONGER THE SAME RIFLE !!! Of course it's going to shoot completely different. Why buy a gun only to change into a completely different gun ? You might as well have bought two different rifles. What the hell is the point ????????
@SHLowlight7 жыл бұрын
You're an idiot with no imagination and no understanding of how people work. Why do people buy 700s only to change everything, this is demonstration of what you CAN DO and not what you HAVE TO
@tevinmarchable6 жыл бұрын
I could see upgrading a stock or even a trigger, but once you swap the barrel you pretty much have a custom rig built on a Tikka action, not an upgraded Tikka. Most of you Remington fan boys have to upgrade your rifles to shoot what a Tikka does out of the box. I'm starting to think it's just a fad nowadays to waste money, if it isnt broke dont fix it!
@SHLowlight6 жыл бұрын
Please tell me what someone does when they get a caliber that needs a new barrel around 3000 rounds like a 260 or 6.5, how about showing them you can easily swap the barrel, here is a second clue, I don't pay retail. and with a barrel speed matters, if it's a 150fps slower than necessary because Tikka factory barrels are slow, why not swap it. I get Accuracy International Rifles in 308 and then change the barrel and caliber to something else too.
@tevinmarchable6 жыл бұрын
SHLowlight Tikka barrels aren't slow, they're a 1:8 twist. 1:7.5 I believe in the Varmint. I bought a Tikka varmint in 6.5x55. Had a 24" heavy barrel and an adjustable trigger. Broke clean at 2.2 pounds and with my handloads was able to achieve .5 of an inch and under @100 6.5x55 or even the 6.5 CM aren't barrel burners unless you're really packing those loads. My Swede shot .8 of an inch with factory federal blue box factory ammo. It would be cheaper to build a custom gun than to buy everything you did ontop of another tikka rifle that supplies literally only the action...
@SHLowlight6 жыл бұрын
Tevin March muzzle wise not twist rate I want speed in terms of MV
@tevinmarchable6 жыл бұрын
SHLowlight 6.5 creedmore is a short action cartridge, 20" ctr barrel should be more than adequate enough to reach 2800+ MV I stand by what I said, you essentially built a custom rig with a tikka action.
@SHLowlight6 жыл бұрын
Tevin March not even close it’s 175fps slower than the replacement

@markemert69028 жыл бұрын
This is a ridiculous video. You are going to totally create a new rifle as opposed to upgrading a Tikka, which is a perfectly fine rifle to begin with.
@str3tchr6 жыл бұрын
Mark Emert there are people that buy rifles say cool its good and call it a day... but those people are not usually the ones on snipershide. There is something about customizing a rifle to be exactly what you want that is just unbeateable. This kind of series shows people tikkas are a good platform to do that on. I think I may build my next rifle from a Tikka instead of a custom action.
