In the feeding clinic, Joanne Leadley goes head to head with Ross Clarke from Cardiff. Ross is a meal dodger who never finds time to eat, while Joanne is a giant-portion gorger. Their swap is packed with drama, tantrums and tears. Dr Christian shows Ross the damage his diet is doing to his body and sends Jo to Georgia, America, to meet a woman whose life has been destroyed by overeating.

I do also think that there is an issue with America that people don't get medical attention soon enough because of costs because of no national health service. I can't imagine people who can get free healthcare would let their wounds get so bad. Makes me really sad.

I know I'm late but there was something on the news today where an American woman had to go to the ER and she waited for 6 hours, received no treatment, was not even seen by a healthcare professional and then was charged $800 for it.
@barlowwe
@barlowwe 2 жыл бұрын
Everyone in America has access to affordable health care either through their employer or the government. I’ve had both and both are adequate. That woman’s experience at the ER is rare. Your Media in England runs those stories so that you feel lucky to have the NHS and become more indebted to your Government for taking care of you. Obesity in America has nothing to do with our health care system or because of socioeconomic status. It has to do with a culture of people who don’t want to work for what they have and don’t want to hold themselves accountable. They just want to be victims.
@samanthaabreu782
@samanthaabreu782 2 жыл бұрын
@@barlowwe You are just delusional, there's tons of people in America without health care, and the costs are horrendous, they even charge parents for skin-skin after delivery. You need to learn more about your own government debit as well, seems that Americans are so oblivious of the problems they have, that they forget that the land of the free is full of problems that nobody wants to take care about. But probably you are not poor in America, so you think that everybody had the same priviledge that you have. But who cares, next week you are probably gonna see another shooting in a school and still pretend that you live in a dream country, not a country full of mentally ill people.

I wish folks would just be more compassionate. I always was underweight & people don’t get it, the signal to your brain just immediately tells you to Stop Eating!! It also makes you feel like you're about to vomit (and sometimes you do) if you push that signal. I am not a better eater because I have that signal, that is not will power, that’s just the circuit breaker flipping. AND when I Was trying to gain weight, it was Really difficult, it was actually impossible, you just get sick. Physically & that of course makes you lose your appetite. Now that I’m trying to lose a few ~5 lbs for the first time ever due to aging & decreased activity from buying a car, it gives a Tiny bit of insight. But I could never claim to understand (& certainly wouldn't negatively/so nastily) judge any other person. I very easily snack & dont even realize. I used to feel Hungry Much of the time, yet couldn't eat more than a slice of pizza. Yet now that I’m trying to lose a few pounds, I’m snacking absentmindedly & am never Hungry hungry, just get peckish & forget it’ll go away in a few minutes. It’s real weird many if not most people know these feelings for themselves yet are so judgmental of others. Its gotta serve to just feed ones own ego. But when it's at the cost of really hurting someone else, many someone elses-And hurting real information that Actually helps people, its Should be seen as totally unacceptable.

I do wish people would stop saying it's "Chinese food". I lived in China, you couldn't get any of the stuff they pile on their plates on this show except maybe the fried rice and even then it's much healthier in China because of the way it's cooked there. What you see here is actually a deep-fried western bastardised version of Chinese food. Authentic Chinese food is incredibly healthy and I miss it very much.

One thing I've noted is that with a few exceptions neither supersizers nor super skinnies eat much in the way of vegetables or fruit. Vitamin deficiencies and lack of roughage (or prebiotics - food for your gut bugs which provide you with vitamins and gut healing compounds.) Be kind to your bugs - give them some veggies, fruit, pulses and whole grains!

First of all, sorry about how frustrating this must be for you. Beans, rice, potatoes, tomatoes (depending on where you live probably others) and frozen veg are all cheap foods and seasonings are your best friend 👌 Please don't restrict your food to not eating at all because it's better to create healthy habits and routines you can continue forever than dramatic changes in your diet that will eventually backfire when you return to eating as you were. Find a balance of maybe 80% healthy foods a day and you should find yourself seeing the weight come off and stay off. And remember to eat enough, calories fuel our body for energy so eat enough to do your daily activities but unnecessary calories is unused energy which will just be stored. Best of luck and hope these points help!

quiet opposite of me. I can eat only twice a day, sometimes small portion with vegetables on weekdays but when I want to eat I can eat big portion like 10 loafs of toast, 3 bowl of rice and I like snacking bread! 33:48 it’s both. Like with most things where half the data says one thing and half the data says the other, I’d argue it’s both. Someone with a genetic predisposition to something may not end up developing it if they’re not exposed to it in life. So if you have that predisposition to an ED but you never see people engaging in those behaviors, you may still be able to get away without dealing with one. And there are other people who don’t have that genetic predisposition. Look up “epigenetics” there’s a bigger explanation that we’ve been studying and developing for the past few decades that shows that so much of our mental health and behaviors might still be connected to genetics just not necessarily as directly as we thought. And some of those genetics still needs environmental factors to activate them. It’s also usually pretty hard to sus out nature vs nurture because people have so many experiences by adulthood. And especially with things like EDs. Did you start restricting because your mother had an ED and it’s genetic? Or did you start restricting because as a baby and child you watched how she ate and her food rituals and you started to normalize that? Well, I think it’s a bit of both.
