In this video I look at the super smash bros Kickstarter scam where someone was looking for $10000 to complete a rom hack. This rom hack would have had Conker, Banjo, and other playable characters. This rom hack was for the original super smash bros. for the N64 Nintendo 64.

I know about Smash Remix._ --- Theoretically a 26-character Smash 64 could be possible by overwriting the Fighting Polygon Team, Giant DK, and Metal Mario, along with using the debug menu instead of the normal character selection screen, but even that wouldn’t take anywhere near 10 grand. Hell, it wouldn’t even take *1* grand, I’m pretty sure.

Back then maybe the claim isn't possible, but Smash Remix proves you can and they managed to have ALL the characters on one screen without the need to press the L button. Oh and waaaaaaay more options too! You just need an expansion pak to play the game. I'm so glad we're two years in now and we got the true expansion of the original for $0!

Hack was definitely a scam, but I don't know that the hand placements changing during the menu swap necessarily means it's a video edit. The hands snap to their default positions, which is what I'd assume would happen if he's reloading the CSS. I doubt he actually managed to do that, I don't think I've ever seen any documentation on anything like it, but if it *were* possible that's how I'd expect it to look.

That might be the case. In the Melee mods SD Remix and 20XX, changing the Stage Select Screen means unloading and loading the original .DAT file holding the regular textures, and this process does reset the cursor position. So your assumption is most likely true, if the only way of switching the CSS would be reloading.

I remember when I first saw this rom hack. After I found 19XXTE I looked for more rom hacks of the original Super Smash Bros that adds more characters, stages and maybe even mechanics and I got excited when I found this video at first. I mean ... it had Rayman so it was a win in my book. When I saw that the "new characters" were just alts for other characters, my hype died down a bit and I started to smell bullshit but I thought that maybe this guy would change a lot of stuff upon release. Then came the kickstarter and that was it. A total trainwreck tbh. I hoped that the Rayman over Luigi model would be released as a standalone mod but this never came to be. Luckily the Super Smash Bros 64 modding scene took a breath of fresh air this year and it is amazing to see.

Y'know it's really funny. I remember the day this all occurred. Guy straight up messaged me about this and I told him not to involve money in his project. Dude even asked me if he should use Patreon instead when I responded with the same answer. I knew this dude would get exposed at some point, it was not wise at all for him to do this in the first place. Lesson here is, never involve money in a goddamn fan project. I literally made a Mod not long ago which I put an enormous amount of effort into . This mod took a year and a half to almost finish and I did not allow donations. Modding and making rom hacks is something you do for fun because you love the game. Of course when your done developing the mod or rom hack, you want to allow everyone to play so they can enjoy that game much more than it already has. I can understand if someone needs some money for a program to access parts of a game to mod, but $10,000 is crazy. If you are the creator of the original game then that money was earned since you started from scratch. This is a rom hack, not a new smash game LoL. Sorry, had a bad week so this felt nice to get out. Love your video Snoop :)
