Testing this ice cooler ac was a lot of fun. Many data points here to digest. 🔵 Join the Facebook conversation facebook.com/groups/mrfredsdiycommunitypage/?ref=share_group_link

Hey man how did you make that lid to replace the styrofoam? I've been thinking of making the same modification, a lot more convenient. What material did you use for it? Also what screws? Thanks!

I watched all your videos on the cooler and not once did you test it in a hot room to show us how much it cooled down the room if any!

What size is the room? Kind of pointless as there are so many variables.

Ways to make your ice last longer: You can drill holes in the top and fill the cooler sides with great stuff. You can also put some rock salt (or ice cream salt) in the water on the ice and that will make the ice colder. You could also use gallons of frozen water as ice blocks, and put them in less water (just above the pump). as the block of ice melts slower than cubes of ice, it'll last longer that way as well.

The coldest temp on my car setting is 62 deg F. I have not tested the actual air temp coming out of the vents, but I would say if your cooler can reach those temps, it is a win!

Just this morning I was wondering how cold the actual air temperature from my trucks AC is. I’ll have to investigate! Thanks for watching!

Hey something I've always wondered about swamp coolers, and modified coolers like Yours is what would happen if You used Salt Water, both frozen and liquid instead of regular water. From what little I know, Salt Ice is colder than Regular Ice and Salt Water is MUCH colder than regular Water. And what would happen if instead of using Ice at all, You used Freezer Packs? Does it make a difference at all?

Lol thanks for responding! II’ll be making one for my truck soon. I’ll send you the link to my new KZbin channel “drifting and flipping.” I’ll be traveling for 30 days Arizona California then back here going to thrift stores and flipping products. So I’m really glad I came across your Channel. I’ll be needing this AC unit since I’m not buying a whole new compressor for my SUV lol

Seems to me like just making a straight pipe would be less hassle and more effective than running the pipe inside then back outside the cooler

So based upon design premises for radiators this system is designed to melt the ice and heat up the water in the cooler. That’s going to be due to the thermal loading capacity of H2O itself. Most HVAC vents are pushing temps in the 47-52 degree range in the homes around here in the SE. if you are still getting mid to low 60’s temps I’d think about seeing if you could do a direct mount of the fan to the radiator or form molding something more aerodynamic as constructing the airflow will speed it up but I’m wondering if it’s causing some thermal leakage at the radiator/ flange interface aside from reducing cfs.

All great points! I am always thinking about designs for these devices. I’m sure I’m not done with this topic yet. Thanks for commenting!

Hi, it looks like a more advanced version of this one (which is already good on its own): kzbin.info/www/bejne/Z6mpZnqfrL1lbpI I would like to know how they both compare, but the video shows your cooler working on an opened garage. Did you had chance to see how much run time you can get on a small closed room inside the home using blocks of ice + frozen jugs? I'm wondering if someone has ever tried to cool the water through Peltier modules rather then ice (which is a big limitation). Thanks

So this video seems to share the exact temp numbers the first version did. Like you just used the same video before the modifications. Numbers didn't change at all. Didn't discuss the differences like you just threw the video together. What happened?

use a cheap Walmart ice maker, take the basket out and drill 2 holes in the lid, put a fish water pump inside of it, run the tubing to a transmission cooler and install it on a box fan, uses less power than a window ac unit.
