For the record, "boujee" is a more modern spelling of the word. I'm just ~5 years older than you and when I was growing up it was spelled "bougie" though I have also seen "bourgie" prior to "boujee". Anyway, all 3 iterations of the word come from the word bourgeois which, funnily enough, doesn't even refer to the rich. It originally referred to the middle class, but these days means someone is concerned with materialism and respectability.
