@@1diggers1 I've driven some EVs in the Colorado Mountains and you are using a lot of energy, like you do in an ICE vehicle. I don't immediately see where one would use less energy over another one to get up a hill. Now, with the case of the Hummer EV, specifically, you are going to use more energy and that's just because it is really heavy. For most EVs that are actually efficient, I'd say it is a wash.

If you really... I mean REALLY want to know what cold weather can do to an EV (btw 17* above zero... Isn't cold, and I know that you know that) Come up here to Minnesota when its -20* I'll let you drive my 2015 Nissan Leaf. Then you'll know. I lose around 45% of my normal range, just because it's cold. Then if it's snowing, I'll lose a little more. If I have to go uphill, I'll lose a little more. If I cuss, or look at it the wrong way, I'll lose a little more. And then I'll lose a little more.... Just because. My car is the REAL test brother.

Wait so it only lost around 40 miles on a full charge roughly? That’s nothing. I guess that heat pump makes a huge difference wow. The ford lightning is losing up to 30-40% in some cases. This gives me great hope for the Silverado Ev. It’s better drag coefficient for sure then the hummer , weighs less, less motors.

Question, do the schools close as soon as you get a little bit of snow? Or do they stay open, cause snow is no big deal in your environment? Here in PA they close the nite before, as soon as that 4 letter word is mentioned. Also, why you shut the video down as soon as you say "time to get down the road, have a little fun".... so Tim, obviously you like the electric HUMMER. that's nice. however, have you given much thought to the fact that you could buy TWO new 4x4 "normal" trucks for the price a person has to pay for that HUMMER? and you don't seem to be too "concerned" about having to stop somewhere to recharge. so your nice HUMMER is going to take AT LEAST 30 minutes to recharge at a "public" charger - and of course, that assumes the charging station you stop at when it's 17 degrees out is even working. if you need "gas" in your "gas powered" truck it will take you all of about 5 minutes to "fill up" and you will have MULTIPLE choices of "gas stations" to stop at. and then you "feel so safe" driving that 9000 lbs. 4x4 "on the ice and snow." that's nice also. i hope you realize that if you should happen to "slide off the road" and hit something with that truck, you are going to have to take out a mortgage on your house to pay to get it fixed. you do know that just replacing ONE broken tail light assembly in that truck can cost upwards to $7000.00!! and all that "electronic convenience" that you LOVE in the interior of that truck - what all those "bells and whistles" REALLY mean is that you have hundreds of opportunities that one of your "electronic systems" is going to break. if a HUMMER tail lite costs $7000, you can assume that replacing any of the "electronic modules" that run that "Space Shuttle" dash will be THOUSANDS of dollars. so Tim, it's nice that you really like this "electronic" truck. but i'll bet my next year's salary that LOTS of HUMMER buyers are going to get pretty tired of this truck once they start paying for repair or crash bills.

One thing you are not aware of. Battery capacity changes in the cold and 100% displayed is not 100% state of charge of the battery. My Ford Mach E EV 100% is 79% at 0F. So your data is not accurate unless you scan the battery and get the true State of Charge at both temperatures. $10 for CarScanner and an OBD dongle is worth it. You can report the 1.1 and 1.3 but the battery size may be substantially different in both conditions. That’s actually where your range goes……It changes with preheat conditions too.

The thing is charging is cheap now because it is not a big market share, but like any other energy source it will increase in cost substantially. It’s funny I’ve been searching and searching for videos like this with the ford lightning. Almost no one is talking about it. Why Ford didn’t do a heat pump in the 2021 and the 2022 lightnings I will never understand. I think they might be putting one in the 2023 models, but I could be wrong on that. Someone posted a video the other day saying the ford lightning pro he had was losing up to 40% of the range in the cold. And it wasn’t THAT cold. What Tim just did was truly cold. I’m from Toronto Canada so we regularly see -30 in the winter. My guess is Nebraska does as well. Your windchill is probably nasty due to the wide open fields Great video as always. You really do great work

I wish I could have kept Lightning through the winter. I’d like to see how it does first hand.

You have auto climate. Why not just dial in the temp you want no put it on auto. My wife does the same thing and it drives me crazy. Lol. If the vehicle is cold putting it at 70 or “HI” will yield the same amount of heat once the heat gets going. She somehow thinks that if she puts it on hi it will get warm quicker. 😂

How long would it take to charge this to 100% at home?

Empty to full on 220 v is about 26 hours. Nobody really does this though. EV owners plug in every night and just top off battery.

@@Pickuptrucktalk Maybe not normally but there are plenty of occasions when I’ve come home on fumes knowing I’d have to hit the gas station the next morning. In this situation I would only have maybe a third of a charge by morning. I’m sure these new EV batteries can last no matter what charge cycle you use though so that probably would be fine.

@@pryme2013 Basically I'm charging at a rate of 10 miles per hour at home with 220V. So, if you get home at 5 pm and leave for work at 8 am, you should have 150 miles of range in the morning give or take.

@@pryme2013 The reason you're coming home on fumes is probably because when you left the house that day, you didn't have much gas in the tank because you were putting off going to the gas station. With an EV, your house is the gas station. Imagine always leaving home with a full tank.

@@Thanos88888 No I get that. I would be a perfect candidate for a EV. I have a home with a garage and 200amp service. I could easily get a 220v charger and my commute is less than 10mi. I’d consider one when it’s time to replace my daily driver

How does the hummer heat up on cold days? Would the battery reduce even more if the blower fan was turned up all the way and also if the rear window defroster is on?
@Pickuptrucktalk
@Pickuptrucktalk Жыл бұрын
Like I showed, it heats up in 20 seconds. This is the video with using the accessories and fan motors. It doesn't really have that much of an impact: kzbin.info/www/bejne/h2rLgouEd7h3h9U

@@Pickuptrucktalk Thanks Tim. But is it a hot heat? Can it be adjusted to a cool, medium and hotter heat? And is full temp setting hot enough. Up here in Canada we hit -35 Celsius. More heat the better 😄
@Pickuptrucktalk

@@ramrider1453 It is a hot heat and it is immediate. I find myself turning it down quickly. The heat is controlled by a digital gauge and you can set the temperature.

@@Pickuptrucktalk A cool cheap tool that would be a good addition to your testing would be a digital temp gun to check vent temps of EV vs ice vehicles
