The thing about the rear hatch swing out is only a problem - when you back in somewhere. After all, are you really being safer or saving time backing in? Sure, when you’re leaving. But you’re using that time and being unsafe when you’re backing in. Just food for thought. That being said, if I had $100+k to waste, I mean spend , and didn’t live in California where the utility companies have the PUC in their pocket and allow them to raise rates constantly ( PG&E another 25% this year) I would buy one. It sets you apart from all the California Camry (Tesla) drivers. Yes, it’s ridiculous but that’s the point. It’s different. The other EV trucks look soft and rounded and then there’s this- a tough looking EV SUV that backs it up with power and ability. It looks pretty ridiculous as well when you see a picture of an EV owner with a generator that runs on gas, charging their car when there’s a blackout or the utility company decides they want to turn the power off because of “weather conditions”. I’ll stick to my gas powered one.
@ChristmasEve7772 ай бұрын
The brand is NOT a negative! That fact that it's a giant, rugged Hummer brand with an almost vertical windshield and wide stance is the only reason I bought it. Tell me, why is it a negative? I never would have bought an EV if it weren't for the Hummer EV. Why are people so crazy about the environment when the U.S. only contributes a tiny tiny fraction of greenhouse gasses compared to the rest of the world (namely China and India). Eliminating emissions in America is stupid and short-sighted. It makes no difference on a global scale. I bought it because of the brand.

Ben, I think you're looking at the situation backwards. People who like the Hummer brand would despise EV's in general. But this incredibly inefficient EV actually is on-brand from a Hummer point of view. Hell, I've had 3 Hummer H1 Alpha's and 2 H2's, and I am picking up my new 2024 Hummer EV 3X truck next week. Solely because while it is technically an EV, it is a solid middle finger to the philosophy underlying EV's in general.

I was skeptical, but… Jennie's approval reassures me. If consumers need to haul tons of cargo, tow trailers, go off roading… it's a contender, along with the Silverado EV and the Lightning. I'm guessing that the steering wheel wiggles are because of the tires and four-wheel steering…? Question: if you came across some roadkill, or a big pothole, or a tumbleweed in the road, could you steer around it without canceling the ADAS? That's my main complaint about Autopilot: it takes control, rather than just assisting you.

1.47 mi/kWh if measuring just range alone, not counting other possible expenditures. It is true to its range, so that's good, but yeah you won't get higher than that, and will certainly get lower. Put in Tesla terms, that's 680 Wh/mile. Put in MPGe, that's about 49.5 This is still a vehicle guilty of excess upon excess. I'm sure it's enjoyable to drive, but it's as energy efficient as a new prius running only on gas, and it certainly could be much better than that. I'd say the one area it shines is the fact that you have a mobile battery bank of over 200kWh. That's a lot of backup power you can take anywhere.

Thanks for the review Ben. I love both the SUV and the Truck. I'll add on to all of the things you mentioned and say this vehicle is not about efficiency as I'm sure the KW counters will point out. What impresses me is the 800v architecture paired with the battery size. I have the edition 2 truck, and I really good top end speed up to 65% soc, and then high 200's on up to 80% soc, making my trips from Florida to the Carolinas way faster than the Lightning or the Rivian, which I've done the same trips in. This is one of those things where, unless you have seen it, sat in it, and driven it for some time, you can't possibly appreciate it and so that makes some of the comments I see here uninformed. And to be fair, not all will get that chance but man what a solid vehicle. Gives you perspective.

The environmentalists still hate it because, even though it's an EV that is about as energy efficient as a Prius, it's an EV that is only as efficient as a Prius. It uses more materials which took more carbon emissions to make, and it has enough batteries to power three smaller EVs. But if you were to drive the most efficient EV you can find, you'd still get people telling you how wasteful you are, that you should be riding a bike instead. There is no making some people happy.

In the oppression Olympics there are only losers
@theichione18273 ай бұрын
This is what I’d point out to an environmentalist: 1. Expensive EVs with very large batteries help the manufacture reach economies of scale with respect to battery production, making cheaper EV’s more possible and perhaps home battery storage as well. 2. The factory where the Hummer Ev is built… "The plant will help contribute to GM’s commitment to source 100 percent of its U.S. facilities with renewable energy by 2030. In fact, all DTE-supplied GM facilities in southeast Michigan, *including Factory ZERO, will be powered by renewable energy by 2023.* " ~ GM 3. Using EPA numbers for upstream&tailpipe emissions, a *Hummer EV is rated at 178 grams of emissions per mile in Montpelier, VT,* where as a *Hyundai Elantra Hybrid Blue is rated at 198 grams of emissions per mile anywhere.* Now obviously most states don’t have as clean of grid as VT but as grids become more renewable the emissions associated with operating an EV will start to look more like EVs in VT (furthermore some owners will have solar), the Elantra’s emissions on the other hand will remain the same. 4. Zero people cross shop a Hummer EV with a compact car or a bike, thus more often than not the Hummer EV is a vast improvement over what your average buyer is cross shopping it against. 5. Convincing a Ram TRX (888 g/mi emissions) driver to switch to a Hummer EV (178 g/mi, VT) does more from an environmental perspective than convincing a Elantra Hybrid Blue (198 g/mi) driver to switch to a Hyundai Ioniq 6 (67 g/mi, VT). As such discouraging manufactures from creating EV alternatives for people who want larger vehicles is very counter productive.
