Others have mentioned fridges/freezers and moving them. The secret is yes, to keep them "upright" and NOT to power them up for at LEAST 30-45 minutes after placing them in position. This allows the oil in the compressor to settle properly. Loved the seedlings/plants advice - we used to keep them in a plastic greenhouse and on warmer days used to put the seed trays outside for an hour or so to help them "harden off".

@thomasfenlon23638 ай бұрын
what you dont want to do with refrigerated equipment is turn it on its side. the oil in the compressor can contain microbits of contamination. the oil travel with the gas on highpressure side and bring microbits with it . result is stopped up cap tube feed line to evapcoil. no fix. keep them upright always.

The most important thing is to let it sit upright and still for at least 24 hrs after tipping it before you plug it in. This let's the oil drain back, and it should work just fine.

For those not sure what cracklins are mostly made from, it's actually a kind of fascia, which is the sheath that covers a specific muscle, making it distinctly different from its neighbors. Bicepts have two muscles (bi - two), and triceps on the other side have three muscles grouped together (tri - three). Except fat doesn't need that, it just needs connective tissues to hold it together in little pockets of fat. If you don't break up those connective tissues, providing ways for melted fat to escape, you'll actually not get much of the fat out of each little pocket. (This would be wasteful.) It's strongly recommended to finely mince the fat before rendering it. This can be done either by chopping it by hand with a big knife or cleaver (tedious but traditional), or just put it through a meat grinder (hand-cranked or electrical, way faster & more efficient). However, you'll still have pieces of fascia-like connective tissue. If you're rendering the fat via boiling, the connective tissues will not fry. (i prefer boiling because it "cleans" the fat better than simply melting it, and guarantees the fat will not scorch, but each person has a different preference, and all are good.) If you simply heat up the fat directly in a pot, make sure to keep the temperature low so you don't burn the connective tissues, which would lend a burnt taste to the fat that will be difficult to get out. These fried connective tissues are indeed like pork-rinds, in that it's somewhat similar to skin, and will taste very much like fried rinds. Some uses for cracklings have included grinding them into a sort of low-carb powder that can be mixed with other substances (bread crumbs, almond flour, etc) and used for a breaded-like coating when baking or frying foods. But a lot of folks, if they don't munch on them directly, tend to give them to dogs, cats, and other animals around the home & farm as a treat. Fats are necessary for your diet, because your neurons (brain, nerves, spine) all require fats to function properly. (This goes for all typical farm or homestead animals.) Enjoy them in reasonable moderation, and you'll be fine!
