Great video! Your Toro Power Max HD is a great performing snow blower. I got to try my Toro Power Max HD 1232 for the first time this winter. In 9 inches of extremely wet heavy snow, it was able to throw it 40 plus feet and never even hinted of clogging, and that was after nearly two hours in that stuff. Toro's anti clog system defiantly works as advertised. In your video you showed how well the Toro HD snow blowers handle the berm of snow left by the county plow truck. Some feel they need a 3-stage to deal with the berms at the end of driveways. Not so when you own a Toro Power Max HD snow blower. By the way, I feel 3-stage snow blowers are way overrated and are not nearly as efficient as a quality 2 stage HD snow blower. You proved that in your excellent video. Thanks for sharing.

Great video(s) on the new 828. Going on second year with my 928HD that replaced my 1989 Powershift 828, auger gears striped after 30 years of hard use in New England. Still going to repair it as the Drum Auger on these are awesome for just eating snow! Anyway was really surprised how the new 828 performed, doesn't throw snow as far as the 928 but gets the job done without slowing down much. Next year Toro should send you the 1428 seeing you have a nice long driveway to show it off and do a great job Demoing! Have fun!

These Toro Power Max HD machines have great traction, and the balance of these heavy machines are engineered very well by Toro. Last winter here in southeastern Michigan we had a few days of extremely cold temps with high winds. The little bit of snow we got blew in drifts in certain places. As cold as it was the engine started right up using the pull cord. Always remember to open the fuel valve before pressing the primming bulb three times. I find using ethanol free fuel if available in your area is the best way to go for your outdoor power equipment carburetors. Even 10 percent ethanol causes issues if left in the carburetor too long. Nothing worse than your snow blower not starting due to the effects of ethanol in the carburetor. Where I live in southeastern Michigan, Ethanol free fuel is about the cost of 91 octane 10% ethanol fuel.
@PurpleCollarLife

I was just up your way a few weeks ago (up through Flint, Saginaw, and Bay City) for work. The Ethanol-free gasoline is key. I feel bad for people who live in areas without any access to it.

Looks like you have a good 4 wheeler in your garage. I can only see the back, looks like a honda foreman 400 or 450? You could install a plow for cheaper than $1200, less work and more fun than a snow blower. If you're worried about gravel you can raise the plow a bit with the winch. I have both options in my garage, still use the blower occasionally but mostly wheeler with the plow.
@PurpleCollarLife

Hi Erica! Thanks for watching and commenting. Good eyes! I do indeed have a Honda Foreman 450. I've plowed snow with it for years. It works great. I do have the electric winch and have the skid shoes set so that I dig up as little gravel as possible. I wanted to try the snow blower out last year just to compare. I do prefer to plow with the snow plow, but I love having the blower for the deep stuff at the end of the driveway, right in front of the garage, and on the sidewalks. Here's a video of the Honda Foreman 450 plowing snow: kzbin.info/www/bejne/lX-TfmylaJaCp6s

Had a snowblower a couple of years ago (Mcculloch, a Husqvarna brand) and hated it. Tried it once every winter and it was slow, noisy had poor light and the snow always blew into my face. +Gravel jammed itself between the impeller and the chute. I do believe the Toro units are better from what I have seen but I sold my blower after a couple of years. Used my FEL after that and will use the mini ex if I get any snow this year.

Purple Collar Life true, same with Partner, bought by Husqvarna when it was owned by Electrolux and then turned into low budget versions not to compete with the other brands. The Mcculloch lawn mower I had was OK but lacking in finish. The snowblower was probably the same as a Husqvarna but with bushings instead of bearings and those kind of difference. If I had not had garden tractor with a fel I would have had to use the blower. Oh and one more thing, when I bought it was impossible to pull start. Worked with the electric starter. Turned out the coil gap to the flywheel was 1 cm, ((1/2.54 inch). Fixed it easy and then it started OK. Poor assembly control I guess but that was more a Briggs and Stratton problem I guess.

I just bougfht a Toro powermax 2 stage last week , the thing i do not like is the slowest speed is too fast. And on Asphault it does not go to pavement it leaves a thin film of snow and it freezes and becomes a liability.
@PurpleCollarLife
@PurpleCollarLife 4 жыл бұрын
Sorry to hear that. Our slowest speed is just barely a crawl. I don't really use it now that I'm more comfortable with the machine. I've never set the skids up because of our gravel driveway. But when it was brand new and the skids were all the way up - it looked like the augers would almost skim the surface of wherever you're clearing. I can see how that little thin layer could be problematic, but there would be no way to have it clear against the surface entirely without damaging the surface or the snow blower, right? Thanks for watching and commenting! I love hearing what others think. It sounds like you're disappointed with your Power Max.

It takes a few hours to do the entire driveway. The Honda Foreman with plow does it faster for sure, but it displaces gravel AND the driveway gets too narrow after several plowings because it can't push the snow back far enough. No plow on the Ranger yet. I think it's too long to maneuver well in the driveway.

YOU SAID YOUR DRIVEWAY IS A QUARTER MILE LONG!! WOW!! So the question is how long does it take you to clear 15 20 in of snow with that machine Start to finish.. And if I had a driveway like yours I'd probably get the widest one I could find And I would get the tract version.. The tracks version Will never ride up on the snow because you can set the wheels so all the weight will go on the front of the machine and it can also float to stay above gravel.. Yes it's harder to maneuver But with a long driveway maneuverability is not what you need You need something to be done quickly and efficiently.. That's why they say by the wheeled version if you have smaller property and you have to turn a lot and if you have long driveways with less maneuverability and lots of snow the tracked version is better..
@PurpleCollarLife
@PurpleCollarLife 2 жыл бұрын
I totally agree. If I were doing my entire driveway regularly, I'd get the widest version of the Toro snow blower, and get the tracks. It takes a lot longer to use the snow blower on the driveway than it does for me to plow it using the tractor or 4 wheeler. However, there are certain types of snow, and some areas (end of driveway) where the snow blower is a must when we get a lot of snow. Thinking especially of the end of the driveway where the PennDOT truck pushes all the snow from the road - that area can get very deep, heavy, and crusty. The snow blower is a better solution for that than my snow plow (or a shovel!). Thanks for watching.

1. I have a linear 5 car driveway and need to move the snow to the front half of the driveway and then put it on the lawn. 2. I have shovelled for as long as 5 hours continuously in a big snowstorm. Couldn't move the next day. Felt glued to the bed. 3. When snow is wet and temps are dropping, you need to remove snow faster when it is harder to do so. 4. I bought a Toro single stage blower 22 years ago for $750. 5. The amount of time I have saved times my hourly compensation at work far exceeds the cost of the blower and I am not taxed per dollar saved like I would be if I earned it in wages. 6. Time is more important than money. Unlimited time equals unlimited money. Unlimited money cannot buy time. 7. One of the greatest pleasures in life is operating a Toro in deep snow with a 25 ft rooster tail of snow exiting the chute, while everyone else shovels and scowls in jealously.

Thanks for watching and commenting. We love hearing from people about their experiences. What area are you from? Do you get lake effect snow?

@@PurpleCollarLife Toronto. Lake effect snow isn't too much of an issue. It seems to hop lake Ontario and slam Buffalo instead. Got my Toro in 1998. Got laughed at because it didn't snow. Nobody laughed at me in 1999... kzbin.info/www/bejne/mpaqmH2uirKlj9E I ran the thrower through a full 5 gallons of fuel non stop. Advantage over battery. 1 minute to refuel and back at it. Worst storm for me ever and no snowthrower to help because I was a little kid with a shovel: kzbin.info/www/bejne/o17Kg5WVgtqInck

Put them snow shoes up so your not leaving so much snow behind. Only need 1/4” gap.

Hi Jeff - Thanks for watching and commenting! I've been leaving the shoes down because we have a gravel driveway with #2 and #3 gravel. It isn't perfectly smooth. So if we had the shoes down, I'm thinking we'd pick up quite a bit of gravel.

Wait.... half a mile driveway with parking area and ten inches of snow _for a hundred bucks???_ 😬 Yikes. Almost might as well plow for free.
@PurpleCollarLife
@PurpleCollarLife 4 жыл бұрын
Are you saying that's too cheap? I've never paid anyone to do it - just got estimates over the phone. What do you think a correct cost would be? That makes the ROI of the snowblower even faster!
@Pure_KodiakWILD_Power
@Pure_KodiakWILD_Power 4 жыл бұрын
@@PurpleCollarLife Oh yeah, brother. Conservative estimate without being there to look at it ( and I do regular residential ) would be 2 or 3 times that? That's practically a private road 😂 But then again, different areas, different prices 🤷‍♂️ So yes, your roi would be MUCH quicker than you initially thought.

@@PurpleCollarLife thanks for responce! Maybe i have different idea of what wet snow is from you, i live near the artic circle so i drive a lot of snowblower, i also have a toro powermax and a yamaha. For me wet snow is when it cloggs the impellet, like 0-2C (32-35F). Did you not write you drove in 14F? Or do i make a misstake? 14F is like the best and lightest snow to drive snowblower in and not wet at all, at least not here in the artic circle... 🤔

@@wikingsweden7464 Excellent point. I'm only familiar with wet/heavy snow vs the not as wet snow we get here in northwest PA. I've never experienced snow anywhere else. We consider it wet/heavy snow when it packs into a ball easily, and is heavy. That's the type of snow we had in this video. I've never had the impeller on our Power Max clog. Often, when we get what we call "lake effect snow" it is a heavy and wet snow. This happens when the cold air blows across the warm water of Lake Erie.

@@PurpleCollarLife cool 👍 Maybe differens in snow then, i don't live near any lake but up on a mountain some 1800 feet over the ocean. A few weeks ago around christmas my auger turned into a "pipe" of wet snow and auger steel, used a broom to try to get the snow to release from the auger, but instead i broke the broom handle, stuped snow ☹️ and that was after i sprayed the whole auger + impeller with PTFE (liquid "teflon") so that the snow would let go and not get stick to the metall 🤦‍♂️
