Quite educational for people who don't drive or have yet to drive. Note that 4wd is no good unless you've got clever diffs, diff locks, or...better still, the correct tyres. I hope that most of those people were going home from work, but i fear some of them were just going to the bloody shops to buy tat. Another thing i've noticed is that when it gets this slippery anti-lock brakes don't stop you crashing. They just allow you to crash in a straight line rather than spinning.

Yes abs is not much use when it snows neither is traction control.
@markwright31617 ай бұрын
It's all in the tyres. It doesn't matter how fancy a diff or AWD/4WD system you have if the tyres are a summer compound that has went solid and plastic-like from the cold and have nothing in their design for using what you're driving through against itself. Snow tyres have 'sipes' designed to collect snow then using the snow-on-snow physics for better traction where summer tyres are just solid smooth rubber for maximising grip on warmer unbroken tarmac or concrete. And of course, even if your fancy system gets you moving, you're still dependent on only the 4 tyres to stop and steer, so all that your hightech drivetrain will do is propel you into whatever hedge, ditch, wall or crowd of people ( 1:45) is in front of you. ABS and TC systems assume your tyres have traction available, so with the wrong tyres, those systems are trying to regain grip that isn't there. At the same time, they often just don't work when you need slip, be it allow some wheelslip when trying to maintain momentum or to allow snow to build up in front of the tyres to help slow down.

Where are the snow ploughs and tractors when you need them? Always thought that near the hills when it snows , it’s always recommended or obligatory to use snow chains or tires.

We have much more snow in the north east? We're not daft enough to go out in it ? If we do we have snow tyres on

Videos found on KZbin, showing that a front wheel drive car, with winter tyres will out perform a 4x4 with summer/normal tyres. But majority of people have no clue, about the state of their tyres. Just like people in dark coloured vehicles don’t like to put their lights on, in poor visibility conditions. Look next time your out and about,it’s true.

Just use winter / all season tyres. On most vehicles there's no excuse for not running all season tyres which would be more than adequate in those conditions.

Back then they didn't have wide lowprofile tyres on everything, or people driving around in bloated faux-by-fours that aren't any more capable in any way than the hatchbacks they think their 'upgrading' from, so the country would have still kept moving better than today. Drivers also needed to actually know stuff about cars then too, so they would understand when their car couldn't get somewhere before trying.

@@Travel_BreezeSo stick em there then? 😂 I meant where the sun don't shine 😮😅 My father worked there years ago, on pipelines. Stayed with Cowperthwaites. So we grew up listening to stories about the Lake District. And paintings of Windermere. Hi from the Midlands in Ireland. No snow here at all yet. But cold enough. -5c last night but at least its stopped raining and the bloody grass and weeds have stopped growing.
