Andrea, well happy Thursday, my friend. One day away until the weekend! it’s nice to have one of those calming ship videos because those wild wave ones are thrilling but it’s nice to have a contrast too. The water was so beautiful for anybody that was interested in photography. Every reflection was beautiful. It was like a mirror. There should be some big ocean going ships arriving in Duluth this weekend so hopefully there’s some cool videos and a live stream coming as well. Again, Andrea, have a good one, my friend.

My favorite 1,000 footer is the Indiana Harbor because I made a lot of trips there years ago. I remember many years ago when ASC also owned, or at least managed, Gartland Steamship and Reiss Steamship. If you looked in the ASC archives, you would probably find many interesting pictures of old ships. I remember seeing the Otto Reiss being towed to the scrap yard, and the memory always stayed with me because it reminded me of a funeral procession.

Susan, I know that many times we all want to see the big action with the waves and the horns, myself included, but this video really had characteristics of a very calm situation as the ship went through. I have to say, as a recorded it, I was mesmerized by the calmness. Take a look at that part where the bow is slowly pushing that water, even though there was not much action, it was very captivating to me. I really appreciate you taking time as always to watch these videos and to give your opinion and what you’re thinking. All the best my friend.

St Louis Bay has some amazing Walleye fishing usually in June. We used to pull 9-10 lb walleye regularly out of a little “honey spot” on the east shore line. And pulled a musky out once too!
@vibewithmike
@vibewithmike Күн бұрын
You’re absolutely right about this. What’s interesting Is that most people fish on the bay because they know there is significant drop offs along the shoreline, it is very shallow but then when you get by the channel, it gets really deep and those fish really hang there. Those big fish like being in the shallow water when they spawn. Really good time to catch northern this month and next month on superior Bay. Hey, anytime that you and I can incorporate fishing into these comments. I’m all for it.🐟🐟🐟🐟🐟🐟🎣🎣🎣🎣🎣🎣⛴️⛴️⛴️⛴️

Rob, happy Thursday, my friend. One day until the weekend. It’s interesting. You asked this question because I didn’t know the answer until I read a comment earlier from another person that said the boom is 250 feet. Hey friend! It’s always great getting a comment from you. I know you love those ships as well. This is a very interesting question. I did some research and I found this site and I copied and pasted it exactly what I read below. Check it out. “Great Lakes ship employees can earn different salaries depending on their position: Deckhands: According to the Detroit Free Press, deckhands can earn between $55,000 and $65,000 per season, which is usually six to seven months of work. Indeed dot com says that deckhands at Great Lakes Dredge & Dock earn an average of $50,000 per year, which is 25% higher than the national average. Officers: Officers can start at around $90,000. Captains: Captains can earn between $160,000 and $200,000, according to the Detroit Free Press. Glassdoor estimates that captains in the Great Lakes, IL area earn an average of $95,153 per year, with a total pay range of $105,000-$182,000. Additional pay for captains can include cash bonuses, commission, tips, and profit sharing.”

And here I thought the ship would be leaving at 6 PM, 6 hours later it’s midnight and I’m out there with the ship. I don’t think the video would have never happened. If the ship left any later however, we got it done, we got it done, Greg.

I have watched a lot of your videos, but this one is by far my favorite.

Really Kathy? What would you say the differentiator is? The transition from doing things during the day to seeing the ship at midnight? Some of the scenery? It would be interesting to hear your thoughts on this, and thank you for sharing such a delightful comment this evening. God bless!⛴️⛴️⛴️⛴️⛴️

So many things. The reflection of the lights on the water, the quiet, the way the ship was gliding through the water. It was magical.@@vibewithmike

This was definitely one of the funniest videos I have ever recorded. I know many people like the intense action of the waves and the wildness of the weather, but they’re really was something that felt like action with the stillness and the coldness. I know that sounds kind of odd but it was very interesting and fun. It was an absolutely beautiful ship.
