I'm so concerned about losing the ridgeline stored with my tarp, I'm ready to sew one on to my tarp bag. But maybe inside. And add mini-biners to all the rest. I'm starting to get into having all the hardware for each element to store with the item instead of one big hardware dope bag and individual soft goods in separate bags. But what then to do with the bags? I begin to think about having a length of daisy chain webbing hung up. I saw a camp kitchen at last week's PSH hang where all the utensils were hung that way. Zip zip in and out of storage slicker than owl poop off a wet limb.

I started hammocking this May and took to it right away, fits nicely on my motorcycle for moto camping. Fined tuned my system along the way, really was half the fun. I started out with a winners outfitters 11 ft double, a cheap bug net, cheap 40 degree under quilt, had i t down to 34 degrees at night (not bad). Safe to say I am hooked! Watching the plethora of videos from the vast Shug library was a valuable asset to say the least. I will be saving over the winter for the Hammock Gear zippered bug net hammock and a 20 degree under quilt. I love Hammock Gear great company. I guess I hadn't seen Maple King before. That was awesome. Really impressed that you stayed warm well below the temperature rating of the underquilt. As a total hammock noob (I did my first hang 2 week ago), I can totally see people going in for the simplified setup of this vs having to choose separate hammock and underquilts and fiddling with them. Also, I'm really fascinated by your dual stove setup you did there: white gas for the "heavy lifting" of melting snow, and your alcohol stove for making coffee & such. I would have never thought of taking an alcohol stove on a winter trip, and I've done a few of them. You probably already know this, but another way to keep water bottles from freezing is to bury them in the snow. Snow makes a pretty good insulator. We'd bury our nalgenes upside down, and I'd still leave a bit of airspace so that if it did freeze, there was room for expansion.
@shugemery4 жыл бұрын

@@shugemery -40! The coldest I've done in Northern Michigan was -7 . Also, I had pump trouble with my Whisperlite when we did a trip to the Adirondacks between Christmas and New Year's a few years back. My pump totally failed on day 3, but it was a group of 6 so we had two other white gas stoves that kept going. Now I have two pumps for my Whisperlite, and I wouldn't do another winter trip without taking both of them with the stove.

I thought someone else tried an all in one hammock before. But I like this product. If it was priced well it could get more people into ham mocking and out in the outdoors. I just did my last trip for the season and it was pretty chilly but no snow yet. Thanks Shug

There have been. But Danny is serious about it and it won me over.

Thanks for the winter movie Shug! Finding your videos got me off the ground 9 years ago. Now...a new Shug movie is like a call from an old friend. :) You are what I want to be when I grow up...whenever that may be!

It's nice to see you back out hammock camping in the "Early" winter snow. My wife would like a hammock like this. Her UQ has been known to move during the night and she gets cold easy.
@shugemery4 жыл бұрын
Really liking how it works. It could solve her issues as it stays where it is. Comfortable hammock too.

I grew up in Ireland Shug and I remember the Frys bars....,uuugh! Lol. And as for the After Eight.... it’s awesome your memories of your aunt Pat, when my mom would visit she would bring my kids candy from Ireland. They would gather round waiting for her to open her suitcase. Of course me included and my American wife. 😄

The Frys was always so different to the American candy. I do favour Euro candy. I was born in Derry so got a taste for it.

I am going to have to check that hammock out. It gets darn chilly in these mountains! That was a fine looking fire. I cannot wait to build the first campfire of the year.
