Camping with Hammock Hanging Hitch on Jeep

Took a drive up to the Tofte/Lutsen/Grand Marais area to explore some backroads and try out the McLean Hammock Hitch I procured. Had my eye on one for a while now so that I can hang when and where I want and no need for trees.
So this was a Jeep camping get-out-of-town 2 day romp.
Good time to see what condition the woods were in. Snow and mud. Expected.

The true joys of car camping is bringing an espresso machine! Nice jeep! During my earlier days, we camped at least 3 times a year in Big Sur. It was so beautiful up there. I always thought the best part was setting up camp, putting everything in it's own special place. Haven't gone in many years but seeing your trips helps me remember all the fun we had. Lovely daughter!

You can get a hitch mount for the front of the jeep or a wielder can even attach them to the sides, but why not just get a free standing take down hammock stand then you could sleep ontop of the jeep or 10 ft away catty corner to it ? Then you could mini-van camp, but the jeeps way cooler !

Tires make a difference in what you can do with a jeep. Also getting tires that throw out the mud and snow instead of balling up is a game changer. I used BF Goodrich for years then switched to Nitto and I’ll never go back. Check out the “ Overland” crowd for more info. Good folks.

You will find on the JK that when the rear glass is up TONS of water will come through that big gap between the glass & the top, soaking the first couple inches of carpet near the bumper & pooling up in the accessory compartment where your jack is located (ask me how I know this...). I would solve this problem by keeping the tarp over the top and parking the Jeep with the front end slightly downhill (or on a pair of blocks under the rear tires). Sweet setup!

When hanging of the hitch you can bring some 2x10 boards cut 12” long and put the behind your rear tires and back on top of them then if it rains the water runs to the front of the jeep and no on you.

EARLY! Hey shug, I had the problem with something I built that needed the extension as weell wobbling side to side, and having a little slop in the hitch kind of like your hammock hitch does. I fixed any movement that I had with this two pack of hitch stabilizers on Amazon. $15.99 for a two pack and they will stop the wobble side to side and up and down slop while you're moving around in your hammock. You'll need the two pack because you have the hitch extension. I have a table that I built on to a cargo rack hitch for camping off of the back of my Jeep Commander. When we were cooking and using the sink that I built into the table the hitch joint and hitch extension joint allowed the table to wobble back and forth knocking over people's cups until I found the hitch stabilizer clamps on Amazon, and no more problems! you can move the whole Jeep with the table now lol. Just thought that would help. Hey very creative shootings you make... One idea to throw the camera to the air it is to attach a plastic bag as a parachute, and first wrap it, then throw it and so it goes down slower providing an interesting shooting...
