I mean, uh, it’s already been established that the American governments houses weather machines and that they can start earthquakes out of nowhere with the help of machinery. Sooo, snow being fake or 'fake' (synthetically made by machines), as crazy as it might sound, isn’t all that unrealistic. And I honestly wouldn’t be surprised at all if we did find out that the snow is in fact fake. But! I have yet to see some sort of proof that they are able to produce snow and to make it snow in a very large area without any noticing where the snow is coming from. So, unless someone can give me that needed proof, I’m just gonna assume for now that it is hopefully and probably real… !

In case you were wondering, the black residue is from the fuel in the lighter. Lighters use butane--a hydrocarbon (carbon plus hydrogen). When the fuel is heated, the hydrogen abandons the carbon to join with atmospheric O2 creating humidity. That leaves pure carbon (which is black) behind to land wherever gravity and the wind take it. That equation is 2 C4H10 + 5 O2 + e => 8 C + 10 H2O If the butane flame (2200°C) were hotter (5600°C), there would be no carbon residue as it would form CO2 with the same atmospheric oxygen. However, because you only need a minor flame to light a cigarette or fireplace, there's no need for a lighter to burn hot enough to prevent sooting.
@slithra2272 ай бұрын
There are also small particulates being burned out of the water molecules, rain/snow/hail picks up whatever is floating around at the time. All participation is somewhat contaminated with pollutants (no, rainwater is NOT inherently safe or purified) as well as pollen, floating insects, bird dander, ect. So the soot is also from those small particles being burned by the torch

@WifeWantsAWizard2 ай бұрын
@@rikki06teater That is a fantastic question. Thank you for asking it. All polyethylene is chemical formula (CH2-CHX)n. The "X" is an additive and the "n" is the chain length. While the "X" may have a distinctive smell to contribute when you burn it, the majority of the "burnt plastic" smell is going to be the exact same carbon because polyethylene is also a hydrocarbon. You should google "carbon sugar snake". It's a great experiment. Gets the kids all worked up. Stinks like you can't even imagine. Always have a fire extinguisher.

This commentor just said. It's soot. Carbon. In school, you would've learned about complete and incomplete combustion (burning). In incomplete combustion, there's not enough oxygen to turn all the carbon being burned (in this case from a hydrocarbon fuel) into carbon dioxide. So, it produces carbon monoxide, soot or both. I obviously can't check if there's CO in the air there, but there most definitely are C deposits on the snow. @@louthinator Truly, thank you so much for this comment. What you said is fascinating to me, as said family member of mine was extreme right-wing to the point of voting against his own interests (which he says he now regrets due to how it impacted his retirement, and not how it impacted his family and friends like myself). He was responsible for his local chapter, making sure anybody of his beliefs would make it to the polls ASAP, even if he had to call AND pay for taxis for them. He even spoke at quite a few significant, even televised rallies- one of which I was dragged into way too young as a 'volunteering opportunity', and saw somebody be assaulted to the point of blood at. Not fun, and pretty irresponsible to put a newly-teenaged kid into. Now, I obviously don't think all people who are right-wing think or do things this way (otherwise I wouldn't be writing this comment haha). But I *do* see from personal experience that [edit: the current state of*] right-wing politics give more leeway for people like said family member of mine to get their 24 hours of fame. He basked in the controversies that he became a part of as a result of attending those rallies, and delighted in arguing with randos that would recognize him on the street (I thought he was making this sh-t up until he was recognized- and promptly heckled- at a public family dinner we had). I hope we both can agree that people like him- no matter what side or cause- don't do us any favors. It's also people like him who make those of us who believe what we do (I agree on your point re: g0v overstep and overtaxation of the public) look like we're one of them. It shuts down any respectful conversations that could be happening about serious issues, and further contributes to the death of nuance. Hope I spoke as intended, no disrespect to you. When you use a lighter on snow, the char marks you observe are typically not from the snow itself burning, but rather from the lighter's fuel. Most lighters use butane, which can leave behind a sooty residue. This soot can deposit on the snow's surface, appearing as char marks. The soot is composed of small carbon particles that result from incomplete combustion of the butane. This occurs when there isn't enough oxygen for the fuel to burn completely. This imperfect combustion results in black carbon residues, which then accumulate on the snow, creating those visible char marks.

There is a LOT of air space in snow. 1 inch of rain = 12 inches of snow. When water molecules freeze it creates strong firn bonds that connect to other water molecules. 6 of these create the base crystalline structure of ALL snowflakes. What we see of true snowflakes are many times over multipled structures. They have HUGE (relative to their size) air pockets. That is why snow is such a good insulator in an igloo. Those pockets can hold all kinds of things both liquid and solid. As a kids I would eat a clean snowball and wonder why it sometimes tasted of dirt. Snow can grab lots of particulate out of the air while falling. And frozen lakes take the amazing ability to hold air pockets for insulation even further. The water on the surface expands while freezing because it is making those firm crystalline structures. This expansion creates a cap over the warmer liquid water below. Keeping wind chill at bay and allowing animal and plant life to live safely tucked in during the coldest months. You can see this expansion with a glass/bowl of water in your home freezer. Mark the level before and after freezing overnight. Also, on the weekend, do the same experiment during the day checking on your ice 4 or so hours in. It will create the cap first and only freeze the very inside later in the 7-8 hour time frame.

@@evansfamily8156and what is the formula where X amount of snow, is Y amount of liquid water, or is it the same?
@leslietaylor44582 ай бұрын
@The_Legend47 there is no set formula because all snow is different and snow storms are all different. You can have dry powdery snow when its below 10⁰F, i. FAct with dry snow it's very difficult to make a snowball because it doesn't bond together. You can have slush snow, it falls when ground temps are above freezing. I've seen it snow at 37⁰F. Then you have all points in between. That's why road crews have a hard time treating the roads until they figure out what type of snow is falling

i just learned you can use snow as sponge
@oliviersavard86762 ай бұрын
@@kokowochit isn't very efficient though and it mostly works with snow that's already wet (the type of snow which is present when the temperature is around 0°C or just a little over) because wet snow is the only snow that will allow you to make snowballs since it clumps together. it's also a lot denser and thus a lot heavier than regular snow, and it can't pick up a lot of water without becoming saturated (which is why it turns transparent), since it's already packed with water in the first place due to the temperature. just the heat of your hands will usually manage to get snow to become saturated with its own water. dry snow (which is present in much colder temperatures with less humidity) will not pack together, in fact in french we call it "poudreuse", due to how it has a consistency similar to "poudre", or powder in english.
