I sang this to my daughter while she was in hospital after open heart surgery, she was 3 months old. Years later when she was 4 years old she heard me playing it on guitar and singing it and she loved it. Now at 7 years old I often sing it to her as a lullaby, this song is really special to us.

This song is so uplifting, yet beautifully sad at the same time. The music and his voice carrying on through the music I believe is touching like conveying that instead of leaving a shadow, leave as bright as the sun, as well as trying to allow the one fading away to still hear the message: "You aren't alone, I'm with you."

You also stay strong . I lost all my grandparents , both parents , I lost three good friends and my husband was killed. I leaned, to carry on regardless. I am no longer made from flesh but from Tungsten carbide . And I live , I cope . I stopped crying and started dancing . It was a test from the heavens , and I can cope with anything now.

This is my first Snow Patrol experience and when I first heard it, I sat back in my chair and listened to it...5 times. The last 3 minutes of the song has a euphoric quality that can't be matched with anything else I've ever heard. Between the instrumentation and the lyrics and overall structure to the song, it is a true masterpiece.

@dianerobinson53362 жыл бұрын
I wish you the best as you move forward with your life. I lost my husband and while it wasn't this song, I had the same issue with the raised eyebrows over the song I played. Actually, it was most of the music I played. I didn't care. My choice of music was meant for him, not those who came to the funeral. Those who knew him best, understood why I played it. No explanation was required.

Rekless, I discovered this song in exactly your position at 17; my mother was dying of Leukemia, at the time it represented so much that I wanted to say to her but felt I couldn't because acknowledging that she was going felt like the most painful thing.... 5 years on and this song still brings tears to my eyes without fail, but it also brings back some of the most beautiful memories I got from spending time with my mum. I hope you're able to work through your loss as well as can be hoped for, don't be afraid to ask for help from anyone and know that moving forward from loss is challenging, but is exactly what my mum hoped I would achieve and what your mum (along with many others, including myself) would hope for you. Take care x

This song is a masterpiece. It leaves contrasting impressions upon the listener, acting as both an expression of true love and of being apart (as a break-up). To me it seems like the song conveys the message that the man fully realizes his mistakes, and yet despite previous adversity, truly loves her and wants nothing else but to be with her. It is a song of both sadness and hope; the hope of bringing two souls back together in the bond of love. I realize my errs now, darling...

I know this pain! But also it makes me realise that she is also to blame, where I will admit my eras and beg for another chance she seems to not give a fuck and has let me take the whole blame! It takes two to tango so it should take two to make amends and whilst I try to fix it she is happy to leave it broken as long as everyone thinks that I broke it! If you're not worth the fight then why the fuck should you keep on fighting when you starve yourself and dream about her, it's only when you realise that those dreams are actually nightmares that you get your hunger back. Ask yourself is she starving? NO! I would give her a million chances but she can't give 1 more chance! That's what this song is saying, if you cannot hear then fuck you

"even if you cannot hear my voice, I'll be right beside you dear" That hits different now. This song was the only one that made my dad cry when we were younger (lots of hospital time for me, I technically died for a bit), and now it's the only one to bring me to tears. We just received a diagnosis of a condition that can be fatal, and I've been singing this song to my little cousins and my best friend. This song among others, brought me back to life after eleven long years in the dark. I've spent a larger part of my life in the dark where I did not want to be, and suddenly, as "cliche" as it might sound, there was an automatic light at the end of a long tunnel; something pushing me forward helping me let go of this present mess and shed my skin. A voice and I am so thankful I did not give up hope and though i've made mistakes in my life, I am so frigin glad I did not go further than I have. I have so long to go, but I needed this more than air in order to have the life that is calling to me; one that will include everything I ever wanted.

I first heard this song when watching Simon from AGT and the children’s support groups he supports. I’ve listened to it around twenty times and am memorizing it. It is haunting and beautiful. The perfect song for the loss of a loved one. I’m blessed to have the lyrics printed out so I can understand what all the words are. Wonderful 😔

This is for my Kelsie. She's perfect in every way. I made a terrible mistake leaving her a year ago. Her and I are starting to get back together. She's my best friend. She's such a beautiful person, and she deserves the best. This is for you Kelsie.

Joe C. ....On the 11th of Nov.2009 I lost the love of my life, who was my wife, partner, lover and mother of our children. This song was played at her funeral and even though that was ten years ago, this song still reduces me to tears. They say that "time heals"...well I'm still waiting!.. God Bless you Pat.xxx

My bf overdosed 2 months ago yesterday... My advice is no matter how mad you may be, never take someone for granted. They can be gone in a second. Longest 2 months of my life

I heard this song a few days after my 25 year old son was killed in an rollover crash. For some reason, it so strongly reminded me of him... I would just sob every time I heard it for an entire year. He has been gone more than 10 years now and it still hits me in the feels.

Some people are lucky enough to be able to say that. Like many others my dad couldn't care less about me. My mum loves me, though and that's enough. Love like this can never die. =)

Upon first hearing the lyrics one might think it's a love relationship between two people. But actually the meaning of the song is about protecting one's family.

Actually Lindsay you can interpret the lyrics anyway you want. I was putting what the song was really about from the composer Gary Lightbody who said and I quote: Gary explained: "Its really about family. It's wanting to protect them from all the people in the world that want to destroy. It's about running away and keeping them safe, not about fighting which perpetuates the violent cycle. It's a hopeful song." The flares are a rather literal but effective interpretation of the chorus: "Light up, light up/as if you had the choice/Even if you cannot hear my voice/I'll be right beside you dear. It's an apocalyptic song. Can we go somewhere safe when everything goes mad? The opening line, 'I'll sing it one more time for you' is about singing my kid to sleep. I don't have a kid, but I hope I to one day."
