Bob, this is one of the most inspiring videos you’ve created. I keep coming back to watch it yet again. Thank you for your informative presentation. I would love to take off in a converted van someday. I don’t know if it’s right for me but I think about it constantly as a way to live simply and meaningfully in my later years. Being in nature is something I crave constantly.

I hauled produce back from Salinas & Yuma to Florida about 15 years ago so it seems to me (maybe this is mentioned in another series about finding work) that it would be relatively easy to find seasonal work in the winter anywhere from Westmorland/El Centro to Yuma during their produce season. I might also have no idea what I'm talking about, but, hey,...

Colorado River runs (used to, when it was free) into Baja, eh? First I knew that! Wow Bob, this was maybe my favorite SnowBird© video!! As an old easterner who's only lived in San Francisco area way back in late '60s, I don't know much else about where to take our trailer. I took photo of your big T there! Dont forget Mexico. I wintered here. Fantastic weather. With all the stuff happening in the US I'm almost afraid to come back. The boondocking isnt nearly as good as the Southwest US but the full hook up RV parks are very cheap compared to the US. The RVing in the non-beach inland areas of Mexico is tough tho. Few RV parks and a lot of rough roads.

Bob, did you hear, starting in Los Angles, CA ( there are 7,000 homeless people that are living in their cars and RV’s....they are making it illegal!? I am scared, as I was planning on doing this once my Mother passes over. The second thing I was found out that a tiny house is not giving the government enough taxes and they are going to outlaw them, I am sick!! What have you heard??? I love the cold! 😉

There isn't likely to be a successful Bob on the esst coast for a few reasons. First, the population density is vastly different so open lands are rare. Second, the attitude of the population is different. The west is more laid back and a live and let live attitude. Absolutely the opposite in the east. So even if a Bob of the east could find open land I expect the laws would be changed to prevent free overnight camping. Imagine, for a moment, if 4000 plus people converged in an area on our coast as they did in Quartzite. There would be panic and the law would use any means to disperse it. It would be a combative relationship with the authorities rather then a cooperative relationship. They would look at those gathering as the enemy, invaders, outsiders, etc and not as guests.

Yes I've heard that about San Diego. I know someone who lives in a RV (class A, I think) and she gets ticketed all the time. Los Angeles just outlawed people sleeping in vehicles. It's ridiculous because where are these people supposed to go? Rather than work with them so that it's a viable, safe alternative they want to turn vandwellers and other houseless people into criminals.
@jimturner2575

MsKraftee its so sickening that we as supposedly "free" people let these incredibly evil extremely out of touch with reality criminal politicians take more and more rights and freedom away from us...who are they to tell us that we cant sleep in a vehicle did those ass wipes pass all kinds of insane laws that are meant to turn peaceful law abiding citizens into criminals for the most ridiculous things and the people never vote on these issuse..they just come up with laws that please them personally and pass them over night without any say so from the people who they are supposed to work...i really the people in this country would unite atleast for one common goal of ridding our government of these nasty vile criminal piles of trash who dictate every aspect of our lives to fit there agendas and personal beliefs...it makes me so sick....what are the people going to do when they criminalize all nomads for not living like they do? We will only keep losing our freedoms more and more until we have none...sorry about the rant...but reading what you said about LA criminalizing people for not living like they do infuriated me...and it should infuriate the entire country but sadly nobody cares about freedom or human rights anymore

It's pretty hard , love Scamps but too much $ , I own a 2009 Ridgeline, 5000lbs towing capacity, perhaps it's best to wait another year and save up, I do want a shower in it, also want to bring my motorcycle, it weighs about 320lbs, Any suggestions at all . John, Butte gets darn cold. Living in a commercial trailer of any sort will be problematic due to lack of insulation. If you did burn enough propane to keep you warm, I could see the cost being easily over $150/month. Then you would have to change the tank about every 3 days when it's cold.

For single people... LIVE IN AN SUV !!! Much less inside space to heat or cool. Less need to heat or cool at all, a lot of the time. There is no trouble getting the vehicle in and out of particular areas, like on "not great" roads, etc. Plenty of room for everything if you are a little organized. No set-up and take-down work when you move. ALSO, and this is a really big biggie, you absolutely fit in anywhere you go!
