Excellent description, and great video. Another thing most owners do not realize is that the drive disc itself is adjustable on the hex shaft. After you dial-in your cable/bracket, you can slide your drive disc further toward the reverse side (past center) to gain reverse speed. What you gain in reverse speed is lost on the top end of forward, but who cares? Forward speed 6 is stupid fast anyway. Lol I made this adjustment on the first day my 3090 Storm was delivered to my house after assembly, and it was WELL worth it.

Great presentation! I have been having problems with this for years. This fixed my problem. I now have power in both rear drive one and two, and all six forward drives. Thank you.

Thank you for an excellent video, and the answer to my problem. I didn't have to remove the cover, since all I needed to do was move the cable lever.

Thanks, i just adjusted the bracket with bolt and my first reverse gear works now, I didn't want to be technical to remove snow blower over risking spilling fuel to specifically test. Any idea how that gear just stop working. I'm guessing that bolt was originally in the middle.

Good video. Did you find making this adjustment made shifting the knob into reverse any harder? Just bought a new Troy bilt and there seems to be so much tension when trying to Move it into reverse 1 or 2 .
@BlakesGarage1 Жыл бұрын
It is a very high tension cable (poor design) but surprisingly I've only seen one or two broken cables across 50 or 60 units. The misadjustment is much more common.
@griffan8605 Жыл бұрын
@@BlakesGarage1 yeah it really is a weird design... other than that , this model had everything I wanted. So I decided to put up with the heavy tension getting into reverse. I guess there is no way to loosen that up with adjustments you're saying ?
@BlakesGarage1 Жыл бұрын
@griffan8605 correct. Unfortunately not. I think it's solely based on the installed return spring.

I've only found one machine so far that I cannot find any type of adjustment on the friction drive wheel. Most of them have some kind of adjustment rod or on the newer ones, a cable adjustment somewhere. Once you take the belly pan off, and move the gear selector back and forth, you will see how it works and what moves the wheel. The just look for some type of adjustment in the system. Easy on most machines. It seems the cheap cables on the newer machines like to stretch and need adjusting after a few years.

Er, if I have to flip my snowblower upside down to do some work on it, must I empty the fuel or oil first?

No

Correction, don't flip it upside down. Rock it forward onto the auger housing.

I bought a new on with the exact same setup. It’s so hard to shift that the shift lever wants to bend and feels like I may break the cable. Was yours like this? Thanks
@BlakesGarage13 жыл бұрын
Sounds like the shift shaft needs a good cleaning. Grease and grime can become built up so the friction disc won't skies easily left to right. Try a can of brake clean and rag to get the shift shaft cleaned up while moving things through each gear.

@@johna4991 Remove bottom cover for access to the backside of bolts. Install slightly longer bolts and put a nut on the back side. Hope that makes sense
