Blow out the mouse nest with compressed air? I think it would be safer to take a brush and knock it out. The mouse (or rodent) droppings can cause a really nasty lung infection. Great channel Don, love it a lot.

Awesome video, Don! I love that you share your knowledge so we can do repairs on our own and prevent having to take our machines to the shop. It’s nice to see that some fixes are easy - once you know what to do. 💪🏼 Many thanks, sir.

A well built older snowblower with a Tecumseh Snow King engine (like the one in this video) can be kept running for decades. Save the old ones!

@marcmyers1465 -- Me too!! Had a 1997 Huskee branded blower. 8hp Tecumseh Snow-King, 26" cut. Had it 25 years. Ethanol-FREE Top-Tier Certified Premium is the only fuel it saw. Also used Seafoam regularly. Always stored it WITH a half-full tank with a higher dose of SF. I'm in Fargo ND.

Good tip. I have an MTD Snowblower that I just performed pre-season maintenance on it, except I did not clean and lube the hex drive shaft. Although it shifts without binding but I'll spend a few extra minutes to remove the rear cover and perform a visual on it. I'll lube it if needed. Thanks for the reminder!😊

That snowblower is very similar to my old 1995 MTD I purchased new from CO-OP. I grease that shaft and gears/chains on both of my snowblowers every year with lithium grease, making sure to cover the friction disc and wheel so it remains dry. Have a great Sunday Don👍

One winter my snowblower would only go so far and wouldn't move. I pulled the cover off and discovered a rat's nest. He pissed all over the chain and it was froze up in a certain spot. As I was cleaning out the rat's nest, he peeked his long nose out and took off running. That got my adrenaline flowing. So, I replaced the chain and installed new bushings and friction hub (the rubber one) and she works great. The only spot where the rat could get in, I smeared with axle grease around the hole. So far, no critters.

You recommend oil vs a light grease on the hex shaft?
@KITTER298Ай бұрын
Grease gets very stiff and annoying in cold weather. Oil is best there.

Same machine that I have. Never had any problems with it. I used to use it for clearing an apartment parking lot. The 29" width made it easy to get between cars

Very similar to my White Branded MTD 10.5 HP, 30" cut. I always sand the Friction wheel radially and make a pass on the drive wheel rubber with a block sander to clean off old rubber. Tecumseh powered?

my lube of choice is graphite aerosal spray. goes on like paint. keep it off the pulley and drive wheel. stays on better adheres really well to alum ,cast and plastic. it is some what waterproof. maintenance on everything is the key. I wouldn't use it on the gears

Rule of thumb with any outdoor power equipment. Always fix and lube when you put it away then it is ready to go. Drain or treat your fuel as well
