Excellent repair of a nice looking snow blower. Great advice on removing the emulsion tube. I had not seen that technique before so that gives me another option. Great job. Thanks for the videos.

Poulan 271 8HP Snow Blower, thanks DW6, that is what I experienced yesterday and knew where the problem was, with the "main fuel jet"/ emulsion tube. The video helped me to remove & clean the jet without any removal of all the tin shrouds. Even though I received my automotive mechanic's license in 1973, followed by heavy duty and millwright tickets, You Tube clips like this beats spending hours going through manuals. Best tip, tipping the machine & removing one wheel. I have also installed a throttle cable, to control the engine speed under load. It's not perfect, but it gives control if the governor doesn't react quick enough or at all sometimes.

That’s pretty slick taking the tire off to get to the carb. I have a craftsman snow I bought in 1994. Still runs like a top. Never had the carb off. I don’t have to use it every year and I always run the gas out, if I do use it. Glad I found you KZbin page to watch your videos.

OK, I'm 2 years late, but this video saved me hours of shoveling and maybe hundreds for a shop repair. Never thought of turning the blower on end - worked like a charm! My everlasting gratitude.

You da man! such a simple solution for the problem of "running only using the primer." I was confrident it was caused by gummed up lacquer from gas / storage. You provided the simple clean out instructions that did the trick! Thank you!!

my troy-bilt blower would only run well when partially choked, and that was from when i first bought it. i finally pulled the emulsion tube and found a small piece of plastic on the outside of the tube. put it back together and it has run great ever since. so this fix is definitely worth trying if your engine surges (hunts) too

I have to thank you for this video. I have the same blower I bought last summer. Only used once the winter before. The tank hadn't been drained properly so the darn thing wouldn't start. AFter watching you, I followed your instructions and got it running, thankfully because we just had a foot of snow. I did one thing wrong when inserting the emulsion tube tho. I put it in with the larger end first. Darn this runs tho, but I'll reinstall it with the narrow end first. Thanks again.

Video helped understand that some troubleshooting can be done but wasn’t clear how you tilt the blower? Did you have to drain the gas? Is there any caution to use when tilting? Other than that you made it seem it like an easy job 👍🏼. I have exact same blower. Won’t start and saw no spark on spark plug. Could you give any tip.

My brand new barely used Ariens 24 Classic ran perfectly last year, but due to lack of snow was not used much. Tried to start it this week, and it acted fuel-starved. I'd just put in some 90 octane but not ethanol-free gas, so I emptied that from the tank, replacing it with about 1/2 cup of ethanol-free gas plus Sea Foam additive (about 1-2 oz.) I had watched several other videos showing removal of the shrouds, disconnecting wires, etc. However, having seen this one, I was determined to try this before disassembly. I drained the carb bowl and noted the yellowish (oxidized!) gas. Eventually saw clean/clear gas with additive come through. I then removed the bowl, & o-ring. I had "varnish" in the bottom, requiring carb cleaner and some elbow grease to clean up. Eventually I removed the emulsion tube (forgot your tip about a shrpened q-tip) and cleaned it as you showed. While doing all this and WITH THE GAS VALVE IN OFF POSITION there was continuous dripping !! Sprayed some carb cleaner into the carb from below, noted the float worked freely, and reassembled. Started right up after other checks done (spark plug, oil, etc). CONCLUSION: faulty fuel line valve allowed gas to get into the carb over the summer, gumming it up. SOLUTION: I will use only non-ethanol gas from now on, and I'll run it after the season until the GAS TANK is dry, and I'll drain the carb bowl too. Thanks for the video, you saved me a lot of hassle and $$. Phil

I have ran my 26 yr old blower till it ran dry each yr and it always starts the next yr with 2 pulls. At the end of the yr and you have some gas in the tank, I use a cheap plastic turkey baster from the dollar store and suck the gas from the tank and then squirt the baster into a clean jar to dump back into the gas can for the mower. It shortens the time for it to run the gas out of the tank. I do the same process for my 17 yr old mower, so I would say it’s a good thing to do each yr. Just my .02 worth

One thing seldom mentioned in these no start condition videos, is corrosion on the flywheel and magneto, usually caused when a piece of equipment is stored in an unheated garage or shed. cold temps and metal usually means condensation which causes rust. Remove the cover surrounding the pull start and look at the flywheel and the mating surface on the magneto if you see rust sand those two surfaces, sand them with sandpaper until the rust which prevents spark is removed and they the surfaces are shiny. You should now have spark at the sparkplug.

I called the small equipment shop cause I couldn’t start my 2 stage snow blower , the gas wasn’t turned off from the last year . He told me to pump the plunger till the gas is pouring out of it and then lean it but on the handles for a couple seconds and the thing stared right up .
@gse24411 ай бұрын
I like the fix. Did you mention when inverting a snow blower you run the risk of gas leaking out? Big safety issue. And oil coming out the muffler and or fluid locking the cylinder? If they don't understand that they could hurt themselves when pull starting or damage the starter and possibly damage the connecting rod.

Did you have to take the fuel out to put it in the vertical position? Or to take the jet out?
@PainterD542 ай бұрын
If you use Seafoam to treat the gas in all your small engines, you won't need to do this procedure. It will keep your carbs clean and treat the fuel as a stabilizer during ling term storage.

unusual to see emulsion tube clogged but not the main jet.
@KensSmallEngineRepair3 жыл бұрын
I’ve seen where people remove the main jet and clean it not realizing there is a removable emulsion tube to clean as well. Most times you have to push the emulsion tube out from the Venturi while the jet usually just falls out when unscrewed,
@artemovsk13 жыл бұрын
I don't think i've ever seen a clogged emulsion tube, since the main jet blocks all of the crap from getting to the emulsion tube in the first place

Yall if you are tying to fix this and are wondering if to drain the gas. Yes or shut or close the local fuel hose with something like a wrench that closes or something.

I am curious, Dr., the last time I went to my eye Dr, I got my new prescription. I ordered my glasses from an online company because it was way less expense than through my Dr’s office. Is it wrong to bring glasses I ordered for. Somewhere else and ask my Dr or their techs to check that the script is correct in the lenses? It seems like a very weird thing that eye doctors sell glasses and make money off of them. What are your thoughts?

With a Sears snow blower brand new 26'2nd time using used stabilizer fresh gas wouldnt start, it is ridicilous that a 800$ machine should not be doing this brand new ,👍 thank you for your how to, saved me many hours of ripping the carb and all that down . After spraying starter fluid in the spark plug hole, it still would not work could only be that pin is clogged, is it just a bad design , mainly the ethanol they added in to the gas. No other machine i have does this.
