Very helpful. I'm not a mechanic but have the aptitude for it and work on all my stuff and enjoy it. Its so nice to have an issue and find a short video to make the repair/adjustment so much easier and enjoyable. Thanks for taking the time to post. subscribed !

Have a Simplicity 1724 (Briggs 420 CC) I bought brand new in Jan 2024, used it during winter 2024 and it worked well - Stored it inside my garage with Stabil 360 Marine in the fuel - Started it mid Nov 2024 and sure it enough it was surging - I was ready to replace the carb with an OEM replacement - I watched a few KZbin’s and landed on yours - Low and behold same target jet was clogged beyond belief - I gently twisted a micro drill bit by hand to clear the hard obstruction - The drill bit was the only tool that worked - Cleaned it up and boom boom, smooth running engine !! - Nice - Thanks for the insight and production - Big help bro !!

I got a cheap set of micro drill bits to clean out that hole. Works much better than a wire bristle. Thanks for the video
@SHONEY21Z8 күн бұрын
I have them too. Work really well when the jet is clogged with dried fuel and corrosion. Don’t need them often but work great when I do. Most ppl have wire around so I usually show vids with that. Thanks for watching!

@@SHONEY21Z awesome! Did this job on my ariens last year and stored it well without fuel, empty carb etc but lo and behold it was still surging this winter. Took no chance and slightly enlarged the hole on the pilot jet. Let's see if that permanently fixes it

A set of tip cleaners for an acetylene torch is probably about the best tool you can find to clean the small ports in a carburetor. They come with about 15 in a set, and there will be 1 that is perfect for every port there is. They are stiff, and relatively inexpensive.
@SHONEY21ZАй бұрын
Good advice! I have about 5 sets of them. Short and long and use them all the time. Only issue is the smallest size usually doesn’t fit in the pilot/idle jet. I usually use stripped wire for those.

Torch tip cleaners work great on those little holes
@SHONEY21Z11 күн бұрын
Yes sir. The smaller pilot jet is too small for torch tips. I use speaker wire usually.

I,m stumpped, just purchased this left over unit from Lowe’s. Followed your video and the unit still surges. I’m pretty sure all orifices are cleaned. I know it’s a leftover model and has never been started, but I don’t want to return it. WHATS NEXT? thank you
@SHONEY21Z5 күн бұрын
Still running lean. Did you remove the carb and clean everything? Including the float and needle, both main and pilot jet and the small holes in the mouth of the carb? If so, I would make sure all gaskets are there especially the intake gasket between the carb and intake. If that all looks good, I would check the valve clearance. And spark plug gap.
@Krispy10118 күн бұрын
Very good video - but using wire like that isn't my bag - use a super small drill bit or a torch tip cleaner and do not break it off in the pilot hole or its big trouble!
@SHONEY21Z8 күн бұрын
I’ve done that. I use all three. The drill bits when the hole is so dried and harness with fuel and corrosion, the torch tips for bigger jet holes that has some edge build up and the wire for tiny pilot holes that aren’t caked on but just gummed up. Thanks for watching and the tips!

I have the same machine and it won’t start at all . I left the gas in it and didn’t start it all year. What would you recommend I do? But a new carb?
@SHONEY21Z8 ай бұрын
I would pull off the old carb first. 95% of the time it can be cleaned, plus the original carbs are always better than aftermarket. Here’s a link to a similar model that I pulled off and cleaned. Mainly the bowl, main jet, emulsion tube and the pilot jet that’s in the plastic piece on top of the carb. Check your bowl gasket and drain plug gasket for cracks. I rarely replace carbs, only if they have deteriorated or they physically broke

This happens when you leave this sitting for any length of time. The fuel filter is in the tank. It's just a screen. There is no room for a real filter that I could find.
@SHONEY21Z20 сағат бұрын
You can usually blow the fuel filter clear with forced air into the tank of the tank is empty and the cap is off. But you can idiot test fuel flow by removing the fuel line at the carb and allowing fuel to flow into a cup. If it’s good, then it’s just clogged carb.
@MikeJones-rk1un10 сағат бұрын
@SHONEY21Z You're missing the point about the fuel filter. It is letting particles through that clog the jet causing the problem. It needs a better filter.
@SHONEY21Z9 сағат бұрын
@@MikeJones-rk1un that’s not what happened here. Rarely do I find particles in clogged carbs. It happens, but a majority of the time is old fuel that breaks down and turns to gel and then hardens, especially ethenol gas. As long as gas is flowing through the filter that’s in the tank, it’s stopping any small particles
@MikeJones-rk1un7 сағат бұрын
@@SHONEY21Z I have the same machine. The filter allows particles through and into the small jet into the carb. It has happened several times to me. I assume by your comment that you have tried using non ethanol gas and had no problem like this clog?
@SHONEY21Z3 сағат бұрын
@@MikeJones-rk1unit can definitely happen. I only use non ethanol fuel but I can’t say the same for my customers. The ethanol gas definitely gums much quicker than non ethanol. Debris I’m usually comes from your gas can.

@SHONEY21ZАй бұрын
They usually run them at factory to make sure they run and then drain the fuel. Sometimes all the fuel doesn’t get out and the pilot jet gets clogged. Or debris from your gas tank clogs it. Try cleaning it and see if it runs smooth. They come on the verge of lean so any blockage will make it surge.
