Steve is there a Way that the fuel could be coming out of both sides?? The air cleaner side and the engine side?? I see the gas leaking from the snow blower but when I did an oil change on it it looked to have some gas in the oil. I’m not 100 percent sure if there was but the oil seemed very liquidy and not as thick as when I put it in and it also had a type of sheen to the oil. I’m not sure if it could be both.

Once you said what kind of beer is required to do this repair, I knew I was watching the right video. Very informative, especially for someone who's never worked on a carb before. Went and checked, I've got the brass float full of fuel. Will definitely replace with plastic. Thank you very much!

Thank you! I rebuilt the carb on my 5hp Tecumseh about a week ago. I initially thought all went well and it started right up on 1 pull. 1 week after storing it I noticed a fuel smell in the garage and a puddle of gas. After watching your video I pulled it apart and checked the brass float. Sure enough it was filled with gas. I replaced the float and reassembled and no leak. It runs better than it has in at least 5 years. Great video. Thanks Brian.

Saturated float...In 1976..on a 73 ChevVan...plastic coated opencell foam float in a Qjet 4barrel.. took apart twice...still flooded...third time noticed float was heavier than normal...replaced with used one from parts stash...set up level..reassembled...ran better than new. Thank goodness the hollow plastic floats that are used in small engines are better quality today. Best to you and yours.

I've just bought a new B&S carburettor. Fitted it and 2 days later my John Deere mower was hosing petrol out of the air intake. The plastic float was full of petrol/gas. Fortunately I still had my old float, but I will be visiting the dealer as soon as possible. So Steve plastic ones can have minute leaks in them too!!!

Hey Steve, recently changed a needle and seat on a flooding Tecumseh carb. Next morning there was a nice pile of gas under the snowblower where the gas leaked out of the carb overnight. Checked to make sure everything was seated right, then noticed the plastic float was full of gas! Could hear it sloshing around. I needed the blower right away, so i drilled 2 tiny holes in the float to empty it out. Figured out that the floats are 2 piece units that have a seam running down the middle. Thats where it was leaking fuel inside. So i took my plastic welding gun and re-melted the plastic in the seam area and the 2 holes, and reinstalled. So far its holding up great! Lol Next time i see gas again, i will order a new float. But yes, the plastic ones can get full of gas inside them! Cheers

Steve there were some older Briggs with brass floats , and you should mention a lot of the Tecumseh carbs had a high spot & a low spot in the bottom of the fuel bowl and it has to be put on correctly or it won't allow the float to come down. I have also repaired many brass floats by putting them in a cup of boiled water & held it completely under the water , and then you should see bubbles come out . Then you can Mark it , clean it & solder it .! :-) hope that helps someone too.

So you never saw a plastic float leak, well I have one right now. That's what brought me here. Used my 1995 Ariens ST824 with Tecumseh engine for the first time this winter a few weeks ago. When I put in gas and ran blower it was obviously flooding out. Shut it off and I could see fuel dripping fairly rapidly from the carb, overflowing from intake side. Closed fuel shut off and removed bowl from carb. The float is exactly the same as the one in your video. Float is full of gas. That's as far as I got. Need to get a float, and I guess I'll replace the needle and seat while I have it apart. First problem with this machine in 25 years. Never even broke a shear pin!

We have one major issue with Tecumseh engines in the UK and that is when they were brought out by the company that owns the brand now they stopped shipping genuine parts to the UK. Only a select number of aftermarket parts are available for some of the engines they supplied. It's a real headache for a engine model called the AQ148 as these were built for one purpose only to be fitted on two brands of reel mowers(we call them cylinder mowers) sold in the UK.

I want to thank you Steve! I've used several of your videos to help fix so much of my equipment.. it's sad really. So thank you good sir, you've made some amazing videos. And as far as liquids to drink while doing repairs.. forget beer, captain and coke or jameson and 7up. you'll never mistake that smell for fuel or leftover fluids lol

Excelllente Steve once again ! Got near 2 feet of snow dumped here Downeast. Damn Tecumseh carb ( Toro snowblower) dripped gas over my hand at 8 F ( whine). You solved this. BUTT: since you asked about carb beers 🤣, when are you going to imbibe some fine ale or at least micro brews ? That is an order. Much thx for what you do.

Great video. On my old John Deere snowblower - the tecumesh carb has an adjusting screw on the bottom of the bowl. Is there something I need to know about cleaning / servicing this type?

Thank you Steve for this great video, especially the part you explained with toilet flushing. After understanding how the float and needle works, I was able to pinpoint the mistake I made last time after I cleaned carb. The floater was upside down (yah, stupid). As soon as I put it back and tested it, the snowblower is not leaking gas anymore.

I have a ST224 Husqvarna snow blower new last season. It worked fine this year as well but when I turned the gas lever on to start it so I could get it ready for storage, gas ran out under the cover. Is that something common when setting or possibly dirt in the gas holding the float open? Your dimo was great and I plan to check it out tomorrow. I think I will have a Labatt Light! Thanks
