That is a great video and I love how you assembled the rope in each of the housings and it was working perfectly. I have some chainsaws, but so far have not had that problem with the pull cord having to be replaced, but if I do have to put in a new cord I know how to do it myself and I wish you a great weekend and may God continue to Bless you and your family.

Hi Dony, I inherited a MTD Snowblower with a Tecumsuh HMSK100 engine. I work in IT and know my way around a tool but wouldn't call myself mechanically inclined, but after watching your videos on replacing the carburetor, fuel lines, primer lines, and pull cord the whole thing runs like new. Thanks for these, really, without them I would have just sold it for scrap but now I have a great running machine and the confidence to start maintaining it myself.

Thanks to you, I purchased a roll of that rope. One thing I learned it go a bit longer on the length of the rope and don't use the old rope as a measurement in case it has broken in the past. My point is, if you cut the rope too short, you will have to redo the job. I go longer then before making a permanent knot,I check to be sure the rope has a long enough pull. I short sheeted myself on a rope last year because apparently the old rope was broken several times before, so the original was short. That hole idea is a good idea. I don't make these videos because you do.

Great video, watching your video tells me if I am doing it right or wrong, LOL. Can be time consuming hooking the rope through so I understand why you left it out but some guys might need a demo on how to get it through the pulley. I have been using #5 rope, and that's even harder to get through. Don, I have 4-5 of those condemned cause the spring is gone and when I replace the spring I can't get the starter paws to come out properly, you have a video on how to replace the spring and get the paws working? I'll often cut it after winding cause I'm not usually sure how long it should be. You could use the old one but who knows if that was the right length. Great tip with the notch!

Great video. I have a question speaking of snowblowers. My light quit, bulb works(tested with a probe and lights) can I measure dc volts from stator with standard dc volt meter? Was thinking for some reason I cannot.

I lost my grip and let the recoil go while restringing one a few years ago, it ended up breaking the spring. I started blocking the recoil after that.

Hi Don, I'm new to your channel. I have my grandfather's snowblower in the Garage. It has a 10 HP Tescumseh engine. Last year one of his friend replaced the carburetor. This year, he wasn't able to get it running. I removed the carb, clean it and clean the fuel tank. It was running "ok" only at high idle. (Small surging) I removed the carb again and cleaned it. It didn't change the outcome of it. After doing some homework, it wasn't the proper carb on it. It was the non-ajustable one while his requires the carb that has the air and fuel adjustments. I ordered the proper carb, installed it. It runs alot better now, no more surging, but I'm still having difficulty keeping it running at low idle. It wont surge, but it just dies. The only way to start it back up is to prime and, and full throttle. Any advice?

Yup, replacing is easier than repairing. Add a bit of oil in your hand, lube the rope with it. This will prevent "Dry Rot" and easy pulling.

Dony, please excuse my barging in with a different problem, and greatest thanks for all your year in, year out diy problem solving advices. I have different garden tractors and equipment I repair quite knowledgebly, here my problem. I purchased a few weeks ago a Craftsman 42" decker, with hydro/trans and Kohler CV 491 17hp, with the solenoid carb switch. Start's first rev, runs perfect drive great, but for no reason after 15, 30 minutes or so nothing precise time wise motor starve and stop, easy restart, might stop again and not. Specially on slithly rough terrain going uphill it stops. To test I've chosen a hill stop right in the middle and stay put, motor runs great. Is there a oil sentry I'm not aware. Is it the carb solenoid, the coil, the float angle in carb beat's me. Please could use your help Dony Thanks Alain

Hello Dony I'm Tony from Rochester ny and I'm having a consistent problem with my husky snow blower since I purchased it in 2010. The pull cord pulls rather heavy from the day I bought it. I'm pretty strong but by the 4th or 5th pull I'm exhausted. Thank God I have an electric start. But even with that the starter has to spin 5 or 6 times before it will start. I treat this like a baby and I do all the maintenance on it every year. I'm concerned that if the starter goes on me in the middle of using it I'll be stuck. Do you have an idea for a 70 year young man. Your help would be well appreciated...Tony

Why not just use math for the circumference of the pulley to figure out how many turns to accommodate the length of rope for units that the rope broke and spring unwound? Save from that melting a hole option. take diameter of pulley x 3.14 . Then cord length inch's divided by circumference inch's = number of turns. Each turn the rope wraps may increase the circumference a bit but won't make much difference considering rotating full turns each time. Rounding the number of turn essentially.

The procedure for when the cord breaks inside (where the knot is) is a bit different, because after removing the broken piece, you have to wind the recoil starter up first - I think it's 7 revolutions, and then put your screwdriver in to hold it. It just happened to me, and I ordered a new rope, but figured I'd try using the old one first. Funny thing, these ropes seem to come long, so I had a length of rope sticking out past the handle, thinking if it broke again, I would have that extra length of rope to work with, but no, you will never get that knot out on the end - it just keeps getting tighter and tighter. Tried the soap trick - nope.
