Even tho' this tune was written years before my son took his life, it describes his struggles as if it was written for him and him alone. "the act of a noble warrior who lost the will to fight" - always in my heart Patrick...I will miss you forever. Thankyou Rush for the song that I now sing through my tears to my beautiful, lost boy

Underrated lyricist? He is hated, he is not underrated. Certain folks hate his message, hate his displaying them in a bad light. People just want to be people, people just want to be the second handers of Ayn Rand, so they hate Peart and his lyrics.

Like do you even know how many christians are in the world? This very song is calling the self sacrificing Jesus someone who set a bad example... So the indifference they show to Peart's lyrics is an expression of their hate.
@entelechy2020
@entelechy2020 5 жыл бұрын
@@u.v.s.5583 this song has literally nothing to do with jesus or religion. "Christ, what have you done?" Is not meant in the literal sense of Christ himself, but a common expression.

@@entelechy2020 No it isn't. Peart is not that weak. Someone showed a bad example, made failure seem allright, Christ, what have you done!? There is no place for a different interpretation. Neil said everything he wanted to say, he was explicit and clinically precise. There is no more to say about it.

I think every Rush fan should absolutely adore Maiden and visa versa. In fact from what I have noticed among Rush and Maiden fans over the years is that it has become literal heresy to love one but hate the other. Also, check out the Royal Philiharmonic Orchestra's version of red barchetta. Adrian Smith does a hell of a job on guitar as only he can. UP THE IRONS!

You know, I’d have to say that The Pass is probably my 5th favorite song ever. But I feel blessed because if a song this amazing isn’t the best I can think of, how wonderful has Rush treated me? For personal reasons, no song means more to me than Subdivisions. I’m sure many understand why. But think about this. Most bands were never able to put together a song nearly as good as The Pass!

I never paid particular attention to this song, until I just stumbled on it and read the comments and realized how deep the lyrics are. My brother and I’s friend shot himself to death at 30 years old and none of us can figure out why, and hearing these lyrics and thinking about him must made me bawl. Sometimes it takes years to put a song lyrics to a real life situation and then the song takes on a new life, after 25 years. Rush will do that.

This week was a mess. Family medical issues that went from good to bad in an instant. I came home Wednesday, put on my Rush shirt, crawled into bed and haven't taken it off. From Wednesday things felt like they getting more out of control. I woke up from a nap Friday afternoon, sat on the end of the bed and felt like I was in the Twilight zone. Everything was so out of whack. I felt like I was going crazy. I considered calling my therapist. I picked up my phone, it buzzed letting me know I had messages...….There it was, Neil Peart had died. It all made sense now why the cosmic forces were so out of line. What does it feel like, leading up to grief touching the planet from one side to the other, top to bottom? Im now struggling to regain my balance. The world lost a true treasure. He was an artist with a gift so rare, the ability to unify people rich or poor, any race, gender, religion, sexual orientation simply by saying his name. That's what we do. We keep saying his name. Its how we move on from this.

Red Barchetta by RUSH at the Capitol Center in Largo Maryland was my 1st show i have lost track of how many times i have seen them live and cant believe that there will never be a chance to experience them live again. When Mr. Corneilius Ellwood Peart passed on a big part of myself did too. I have been in tears on and off since January this year. They kept me sane when i went through alot of bad things in my life and it was like NEP had gone through them as well, i felt and still feel like he wrote those songs only for me. I hope all of you feel the same. My bucket list had the Eastern USA tour mapped out and i wanted to ride between shows with him. I will just have to wait because that wonderful person and i will finally meet in the end.😭😭😭

Talvez seja a melhor música do Rush pra mim!

When this song came out, it was just good times and good music. I saw RUSH live for the first of 5 times in 1990 and they played this. I was also dating a woman who had the same emotional illness that I have. I got mine from PTSD in the military, she got hers during her adolescence/hormone changes while developing and growing up. We met in college during our 20s and it didn't work, we split amicably. She lost her fight against it on Christmas Eve 2016. She never was a RUSH fan but I wish she heard this song. Now the memories and the horrors of upcoming trump dictatorshit (which I served during the 80s so it WOULDN'T happen, but it did!) and all this - it cuts my guts and brings tears to my eyes. Thank you RUSH - Neil (RIP), Alex and Geddy for writing this and other songs that have helped me through some really ROUGH moments, even now. Thanks a zillion, guys!

Haven't listened to Rush in a very long time & just stumbled across this song. No surprise it still chokes me up after all these years. This tour was filmed the same year my best friend took his own life. A beautiful song with a very powerful message.

I wish I was old enough to see RUSH live from 1985 to 1995, what a period! I am greatful to have seen them play at Radio City Music Hall during the R30 tour. Incredible experience. I went to a total of 5 concerts.
