Snowdon South Ridge - Yr Wyddfa The Quiet way. I've climbed Snowdon many times.
This video I take a look around on the QUIET side of Snownon....Yes there is one!
After a start up the Watkin path ( yes I know it has no S on the end even though on the film I keep saying Watkins 😎) I messed about but ended up on the South ridge as planned. Its a nice steady approach to the summit. Although it is a fair bit more to do from this side, as the more common way to go from the pen-y-pass car park has an over 300m higher starting point.
I met the lovely Sarah who's channel is extremely entertaining, funny and inspiring ‪@FitforAdventure‬ worth a look 👍.
Unfortunately this films not that great. The day WAS great. But from a filming point of view, not good light. No drone footage because of Helicopter rescue, then SD card failiure later in the day!
Anyhow. I hope this film at least showed that you can do Snowdon on a relatively quiet route and avoid the crowds!

Ha ha! Yup. I'm a convert. Some places especially in the Lakes do some awesome Scotch Eggs 😜. That one was awesome apart from the egg slightly over done 😂😎

Nice video. I’ve done all the routes on Snowdon many times, but only got round to this route this summer. Absolutely lovely route, i went from Rydd Ddu side. I don’t mind crowds, but if you like it quiet this is route :)

Hi John. Enjoyed seeing what the views are like. We did Snowdon from Rhyd-Ddu on a grim day a couple of years ago. Was utterly astonished by the crowds on the top and the queue to get to the trig! The train wasn’t even running to the summit either (shortly after a lockdown). We descended via the south ridge and only saw 4 people until we got back onto the Rhyd-Ddu path.

Great route, I'm local and was using it as a training route for a new race which was a vertical km back when covid just started, so the race was cancelled and all my training went to waste 🤣

Thanks that's such a nice comment. Why I put videos out. ...... As for gear. There's so many options. But main thing is decent quality layers. A thin base layer, montane are a great brand for sensible prices. I use Rab trousers at the moment. But any quick drying and slight stretch is good. Again, mid layers, I've gillet to keep wind off, or thin hard or sort shells, and for colder days, the insulated jacket ( light ) . Waterproofs Rab, Montane, many more it's all about cost and your choice. Revolution Race is worth a look at the moment they look great clothing and have sale on. For jackets and trousers. But it's hard to recommend all this, fit and personal choice plays a part. Decathlon do a few things that are good value to start with.

I'm normally well into my rock fishing down the end of Llyn Peninsula over summer and Autumn but I'm wanting to do a bit of hiking/scrambling in Snowdonia this year and I'm currently trying to gain a bit of scrambling/climbing knowledge to help me get to more innaccessible fishing spots in the future, so your video come up via the KZbin algorithm after having already watched a few things like this and am thankful it did. I'll be watching a few more of your other vids now. All the best for your next adventure John, I hope it's a goodun! 😁👍

One thing I've started to love about having a channel is not just getting films out, but the community, and the chat. So it's a pleasure. I was a little vague but so much is also personal preference. As for scrambling, I recommend getting a scrambling guide book for your preferred area. You can often pick one up on eBay for a few £. You can then look through and pick easy ones that look interesting, and then move up. I spent years going through the Lake District scrambles books. It was great. 👍. As for next adventure. I've got a film out in a few days....🤣

Thanks. Have you been along the ridge when covered in snow? If so, would micro-spikes and trekking pole suffice ?

@@davidsykes5635 not don't that way in snow....but personally, yes. It's quite a simple route with no real steep parts if you follow the whole ridge 😎. Only one part 3/4 way up it's narrower. But no real issues I'd say. 👍

During the glorious June weather I completed my 100th circuit of the South Ridge/ Watkin Path route but have not done the Ridge/ Rhyd Ddu path part in the snow so am looking forward to that.
