Looks indeed like Yakuza 0's english translation was built on the chinese one and then it got localized into what we know.

here’s a fun fact: in at least like a dragon gaiden, you can press L3 or equivalent to drop a weapon, doing the animation that happens at the end of a fight if your holding a weapon. That means they actually made something worse than throwing a weapon in combat.

Something I do really like about Like A Dragon Infinite Wealth is that stats are definitely more tied to the job, rather than the character, meaning you can actually make Adachi useful.

Yeah, Yakuza 7 definitely didn't fully have the stats concept where it needed to be to make the game feel like a proper RPG in terms of player directed character growths through job classes. The whole idea was there, fundamentally, but it just wasn't tweaked precisely enough.

I was more under the impression that the XIV in the Amon theme was because it's the 14th time we fight the Amon clan in the franchise (excluding rereleases) would make a lot more sense as we wouldn't have to make exceptions like ignoring the Kurohyou games seeing as he wasn't in those games as far as I know

Fun fact: In Yakuza 5 you play as Haruka for a bit and while you play as her you cannot purchase alcohol and it doesn’t even show up when browsing stores (obviously, I mean she’s 16). The interesting thing though is that you can still buy Legendary Drinker of Ryukyu sets…which help with hangovers. Can’t remember if you need one for any substory or side story…but if you don’t then there is literally no reason Haruka should be purchasing those because she can’t get drunk. You’d think if you bought one the cashier would at least question it, but nope. They don’t say a thing.

imo the only real bummer with the English dub of 8 is the way the karaoke tracks are produced. Often they’re missing effects or entire harmonies, and the pitch correction is *really* noticeable. I’m sure the team just had much more experience producing dialogue than music though (And sure, yeah, Kiryu should sound like 20 years older, but Yong does a solid job with the emotional scenes especially. He’s never half as distracting as Japanese Bryce speaking English)

Crane King's Might is basically just Recovery Stance from yakuza 3 (and 4, I think?) and it actually looks sick to do "the kick" and hold it down for a couple of seconds in Y3, makes you feel like you are in that one cutscene from Y0 where you learn Legend style.

about the trivia at 3:04 the error is the same even in italian because it says "quando i nemici ti circondano premi *then there are the buttons*" the translation of this is while surrounded by enemies press the buttons

I actually remember having trouble with some of these abilities mentioned, and I'm 100% gonna have to come back to this video when I finally play the Judgment series and be like "Why isn't this ability working....wait is it one of those mentioned in that vid from that angry snowman guy? My trick with Nanba's low attack was to just use the Gearworks brand that allows him to use his Magic stat for physical damage. Now I have a Nanba with 600+ Magic which is basically also his Attack.

Personally, I play the english dubs in games they are available. Not out of any moral reason, but because the english casts are really good and its a shame to let the dubs be "obscure" when its a choice explicitly made to appeal to a broader market that theyre clearly trying with. Maybe the yakuza 1 dub created a permanent stigma, but for me, the dubs are very good. And yes I have played more than just the games with dubs, I even play games with no english dub like Gaiden on launch and Isshin.
