I love that Komi always wants to do things with Tadano or just be around him. Wanting to help with student council stuff, choosing to sit next to him on the floor instead of a seat last episode and wanting to make a little snowman to put next to his.

Ahhh I remember gambling with Gram Gram. We would play texas holdem and she would rob us blind. It was great

Even though there was no ill intent on Komi's end, seeing her snowball Yamai even after the latter committed friendly fire to save Komi felt GOOOD.

The music in this anime is so epic and memorable lol there's: - "competition theme with that electric guitar" - "tension because someone is nervous" - "Komi being adorable (a.k.a da-da-da-dada)" - "emotional music that plays too often"

I love the little picture cards in-between scenes from last ep and this one with the group shots. So adorable. And that intro segment where they didn't say much was freaking great with the two little snowmen next each other.

Firstly, Japan has some unique traditional games which involve cards, and Koi Koi is one of them. It is a game which requires 48 cards or Hanafuda (Flower Cards in Japanese), where a set of four cards represent a month of the year [Like Ichi-gatsu (January) to Juuni-gatsu (December)] and 2 players. Each card has a distinct design, representing the flowers, trees, natural surroundings of each season [Japan has four seasons: Fuyu (Winter), Haru (Spring), Natsu (Summer) and Aki (Fall), where three months consists within each season]. The playing method of Koi Koi is kind of like this: A round consists of both players making a planned match, and a random match. Play starts with the first player. 1. The player may make a match with a card in his hand and a card in the field of the same month. Or they may add a card to the field that matches none of them. When matching to the field the player leaves the card on its match till after step 2. 2. The player now reveals the top card of the deck and one of the following happens: •If it matches a card, the player gets that match, as well as any other match made in step 1 and adds both matches to their library in front of them. (This “library” is the pool from which players can form their Yaku from.) •If the card matches the first match they made, causing three of one month to be on the table, all three cards stay in play, and remain there until someone makes the final match of the month and claims all the cards. •If the card matches no card in the field, it is then added to the field. 3. When the player is done matching, they see if they have formed in Yaku in their library. If they have they can either end the round and claim their points, or if they believe they can make another Yaku (potentially a better one) before the other player can make a match , they may Koi-Koi and continue play. Be careful, if the player calls Koi-Koi and their opponent makes a Yaku (any yaku) before they do, the opponent gets double points. 4. Play Continues to the next player. Play in a round continues until either a player scores Yaku, or the deck is exhausted. The month (round) is then ended and the field and hands are re-dealt. The player with the Highest score is the new Oya. The game ends when you’ve either completed 6 or 12 months. The person with the highest score wins. Secondly, the dress Komi wore on her visit to Shrine is technically a Kimono, not Yukata. A Kimono can be distinguished by its complicated binding of Obi (A wide belt which is used to tie and support Kimono, Yukata etc.) and it is more formal, whereas a Yukata is more like semi-formal, in some sense casual which is specifically worn in Summer and is distinguished by its simple binding of Obi.

Traditionally in Japan, many families travel to their hometowns or the hometowns of their parents or in-laws to visit relatives (many people may have moved to the big cities, such as Tokyo, from their smaller towns or cities). Whether you travel or not, many people will visit the shrines in the first week to pray for luck for the new year. Meiji Jingu in Tokyo, Kawasaki Daishi in Kawasaki, and Naritasan in Chiba are the most visited shrines in Japan (all three are in the Kanto (East) region) with millions of visitations in the New Year’s break. I visited Meiji Jingu twice, on the third day or so, in the afternoon, and I had to wait like an hour to get to the prayer area because there are so many people (shoulder to shoulder in a walkway the width of half a football field). Traditional New Year’s food is osechi, which include various food representing good things, such as shrimp standing for longevity.

Hamlnafuda is a card game originating in the 17th century. Over a hundred years ago (1889) a small company called Nintendo got their start producing and selling Hanafuda cards.

Fun fact: Nintendo produced hanafuda game cards (the card game featured in the episode) before entering the video game market

You can play Koi Koi in the latest Sakura Wars game. It's easy to learn but you do have to remember the patterns.

For a very rough estimate of yen to USD, move the decimal over 2 places. So $1 USD = 100 yen

Once you rap this up, or when you have time, you GOTTA check out Hokkaido Gals are Super Adorable. It's currently airing with only a couple of episodes out right now, but you should still watch it. If you enjoyed My Dress Up Darling, then you're gonna love Hokkaido Gals.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but they are wearing kimonos, not yukatas. They differ in materials and kimonos are worn in winter while yukatas are for summer.

Technically, he has “hanafuda-like” earrings. The design sort of looks like what you’d see in a deck but is not really one of the designs. In addition, the proportions are different… the earrings are a little longer and thinner than a hanafuda card.
