Snowmobile Camper Solo Overnight- Primitive Heating & Wolf Lullaby / Log Cabin Update- Ep 11.6

The Outsider

Күн бұрын

In this episode, my dad and I tow the snowmobile camper to a new location, where I establish a winter camp. After taking my dad home, I returned on my own the next day. I felled a dead-standing Elm during the day, and walked among a chorus of wolf howls at night. I also constructed a primitive "rock radiator" to heat my shelter throughout the night.

Something that you might want to install is a computer fan at the ceiling blowing down to keep the heat circulating in the hut, they draw next to nothing in power. That way you can close the top vents, with having the crack above the door you would have plenty of fresh air circulating but keeping the heat from escaping out the vents making the hut stay warm a lot longer by morning. Just a thought, worth trying

That was awesome and scary at the same time to hear all those wolves. I was relieved to know you were safe inside. Maybe you could setup a trail cam to see what and how many animals will be checking out your shelter? That would be interesting. Looking forward to see what improvements your going to make to it as well. Thanks for sharing your experience with us. Nature is both beautiful and deadly.

Great idea! Adding a trapping lure, to the base of an isolated tree would give animals a focal point to investigate for the camera. Old nasty chicken skin in a jar or old, tainted eggs are cheap options.

Why do you hear wolves and get scared? I don't understand that logic. Wolf attacks on humans are so extremely rare that you can basically say they don't happen period. The first fatal attack of the ENTIRE 21st century was in northern Saskatchewan in 2005.
@BrodyYYC

@@rrbernhardt5810 Don't feed wild animals peroid. Where I live photographers have been known to lure wolves with food and then the wolves get used to rewards, lose fear of people and end up dead. If all you care about is some photos then sure, bait some animals. But if you actually care about the animals then let them be wild. Also if it was in a national park leaving food around for animals is extremely illegal.

@@BrodyYYC: Thank you for gracing the internet with your opinion. You sound really smart, so let me ask you a question. How would wolves (or coy-wolves) associate an odor in a remote field (devoid of people) with people? What would make them decide to attack humans if humans aren't physically present and establishing a connection between themselves and an easy meal? Do they attack humans every time they smell a deer carcass in the woods? I'm having trouble following your thought process, so I'm glad you're willing to share your intimate knowledge of wildlife thoughts and behavior and even happier you're here to enlighten us all. If you have extra time, please tell us more about the behavior of photographers wherever you live. Thanks again!

We are Illinois folk.... and my wife isn't into the outdoors much, .. but in my earlier days (72 now) camping, and being outside was a big part of my life. I miss it now, .... but imagine that I'm there in a measly tent with you. (Although I wouldn't feel nearly as safe as you in that wonderful (albeit small) camper. I'm amazed at how much weight a snowmobile can pull! Stay safe, .. keep posting your videos.... and God Bless You!

Okay, if you get the solar panels, battery, with the controls for that, then try the Chinese Diesel Heater (its of good quality) for dry Heat inside your camper (NO MOISTURE). The heater has Combustion Air and Exhaust piped to the outside, so the SAFE dry heat is circulated in your camper. You'll be set. Reference other Life in a Van youtuber/s who installed this heater.

Then at the 4:49 mark it looks like we lost the rear sled also. lol At 21:04 you looked a little nervous and then again at 21:18. Your bucket handle is going to need replacing if you keep burning it. 31:01 To stop most of the heat from going to the top of your shelter and staying there you need a small fan to move the air around. Good luck and pleasant dreams. 👍 😁

SUBSCRIBED!! I love this camper! Thjs is, to me, by far, the most sensible and logical way for winter camping! The shelter you have is very well built!!! Love your practical ideas!!

He should put a smaller crawl door on one end so he doesn't keep opening that big door

What if you put a false floor to put the rocks in to heat you from underneath at night

I was thinking the same thing. Dig a trench and fill it with heated rocks and put the camper over it.

Maybe using hot air from an external campfire would work. Put a heat exchange radiator in the floor or on a wall. It could be pretty small, you are heating a small space. Run a metal tube or line from a heat exchange coil in a fire and run the hot air into the campers heat exchanger. You could put rocks around your heat exchanger in the fire to create a thermal mass so you would have warm air for hours even after the fire dies. No heating heavy rocks, no heating 80 lbs of water, just a simple heat exchanger at each end. Of course, vent your system to the outside of the camper. This would be simple and light with no chance of fire or CO2.
