From lesser known ones like The Losers. But he's usually playing different types of roles in those films. Like in Scott Pilgrim he plays a douche bag actor. In Snowpiercer he plays a man who was fine with eating babies and killing to survive. To then playing the good guy Steve Rodgers.

For me the polar bear in the end was a sign from Mother Nature that she is slowly restoring balance. All life was supposed to be extinct outside of the train, but here it is the 1st sign that clearly that's not the case. "Life finds a way." - Jurassic park.

The thing that makes the ending so good is it ties so much into the themes of the movie. The whole movie is about the system. You got Wilford wanting to keep the system in place and he's willing to do it off the backs of the poor to keep the broken system barely functioning. You got Evans who wants to change the system but the thing is it's impossible to keep the system going without using the poor as literal cogs in the system. So the only solution is to blow the entire system up and start over but that could potentially leave us in a worse place than before facing extinction which is why the last shot is two children and a polar bear that could potentially eat them 5 mins later. But if they survive they might be able to build a much better equal system from scratch

I'd argue that the train doesn't represent THE system, but a particular type of system. That life continued outside indicates there are other options than the structure of the train, which ultimately has no redeeming qualities and deserves to be left behind. Sometimes it takes drastic (er, explosive) measures to break out of the unethical system, but the hard work and sacrifices are worth it to give future generations the opportunity to live better lives.

Fun fact: The fish gutting scene wasnt approved by Harvey Weinstein (the producer), but Bong said that scene was dedicated to his father who's a fisherman, so Harvey let him to have the scene. His father is not a fisherman.

I could be wrong, but I think the fish gutting scene may be a reference to an old military tactic of wasting some of your own supplies in front of your enemy just to demonstrate that you have more resources than them. I can't remember any specific historical examples of this, but basically when two opposing armies are locked in static defensive positions and aren't actively engaging in combat, one army that has lots of extra supplies will deliberately waste some of it just to show how much they have to spare to the other army which may have limited supplies. The idea is that the army with less supplies will see this and realize that they don't have a chance of outlasting the opposing army. In the context of the movie, I'm not sure if it's as effective of a strategy, but I do think the soldiers who gut the fish are still attempting to taunt Curtis and the other people from the tail section.

As they still had resources coming in from behind them. While the Germans were basically cut off from getting any more resources. Yet Hitler being the moron he was demanded that they keep on going inward and attack Russia at any cost. Even though it was the middle of winter and they were losing thousands of soldiers at a very high rate just due to the cold and that even though they were advancing on Russia they weren't gaining anything at all. Russia was allowing Hitler to believe that by them advancing it meant they were gaining ground and earning victories when the Soviets were just letting them believe that they were retreating not because they were losing but because they wanted to extend the battle longer and longer because they had resources while the Germans didn't. Soviets would be in one town with housing to keep them warm while the Germans would be out in the open air as any buildings they could have used would have already been burnt to the grown.

This is the movie Harvey Weinstein tried to kill out of pure spite because Bong Jun Ho would not let him edit the film for distribution, and sent him a sword with a note that said “no cuts”. Also it reminded me of my favorite dogs death....he ate salmon blood by mistake. We didn't wash it out of the front yard good enough...I'll never forget or forgive myself. My interpretation of Willfords motivation is as follows: He can't picture how to set up a system of governance that wont eventually leed to pure chaos. The chaos Willford feared is personified in the 'babies taste best' story arch. To 'protect' humanity from this chaos he uses equity as a weapon and splits the people into 3 groups. Front - Middle - Tail which mirrors rich - middle class - poor. Willford portrays the tail as free loaders and less than human. He uses the tail to create the structure and order for the other sections. This hatred of the tail gives purpose to the other sections, based on and not limited to fear and a sense superiority. Willford replaced the chaos of the unknown with the chaos of equity. Chris is swayed by the logic of Willford when he first turns down the request for the last match. What snaps Chris out of that dark hole is the sacrifice of children. The humanity he experienced when people sacrificed their body's to protect and feed the young gave him the foundation to not allow the evil to swallow him whole. He realises that the system is broken beyond redemption and gives the match to the girl. that leads to the end of that civilisation. The slate was whipped clean and 'Adam & Eve' step froward into the snow 'dessert' of freedom to try again. Master piece of a movie, different people will see different messages from this movie expecially people from countries that recently or are in the process of war/revolution. Best movie of all time for me.

FYI: There is also a Snowpiercer series on TNT (or for the rest of the world Netflix) that is very good. It follows a slightly different plot but the basic story building blocks are still in place. Since both the movie and the series are based on a French graphic novel they both take liberties with that story's plot lines, so they each make their own interpretations of what Snowpiercer is. The series stars Daveed Diggs and Jennifer Connelly in the main roles.

Think on this for a bit: what does the engine of the train represent to you? In my opinion it is the society we live in. Created by the super rich and super powerful, and enjoyed by them. It’s power source never runs out because it feeds on the weakest and poorest who are expendable and will be replaced with more when their usefulness has gone. The only way to stop it and start something new is to destroy it and begin fresh. It wouldn’t be easy, but maybe it would be better. I think that’s what Boon is saying here.

But regarding your feelings toward movies having a big climax that feels a little too big, I'm just curious how you might contrast that with The Usual Suspects now that you've seen that? It's been one of my faves for a long-ass time and I know in that video you talked about loving it, but its greatness is almost reliant on its big climactic surprise ending and I just wonder if there was something specific about their big ending that felt different to you about the big endings in this, The Departed, Parasite, etc. that felt a little jarring to you?
