Bertha has a big battery on-board and is radio-controlled. She is about 25 years old and weighs 7.5 kg (16.5 lbs). She is doing well for her age, isn't she? No wonder you love her.

I agree. A rotary plow is in the planning stage. May be this winter. Stay tuned.

What does Bertha weigh ( or is it impolite to ask a lady ) ? Battery, brass chassis, I am guessing 7-8 Kg. ? Or is it more ? Really does a fine job of heavy, wet Vancouver Island snow clearing.
@Landsend-Railroad4 жыл бұрын
You have met Bertha. She is a crusty old lady, batteries included, and does not mind me telling her weight and age. Your guess is right on. She weights exactly 7.5 kg and she is 25 years old. For an engine that counts triple.

Beautiful railway. Love all the viaducts and bridges. The Landwasser Viaduct is amazing - how did you built it - concrete?
@Landsend-Railroad4 жыл бұрын
Yes, it is concrete. Cast the pillars first, then build forms to cast the arches in one cast. The quarry stone pattern is carved when the concrete is still green, about 12 to 24 hours old. Thanks for you appreciation.

Very nice video! If I’m not mistaken, I recall this same video was previously uploaded with different music. Do you recall the original music? Thank you
@Landsend-Railroad3 жыл бұрын
You are quite correct. This video was uploaded earlier. The original up-beat music was from a selection of polkas played on an accordeon. I took it down when someone made a copyright claim. I actually liked the first version better. It sounds like you did too. Thanks for remembering.

Great video! Is the plow an attachment or fixed to the locomotive? If its an attachment, what company offers it?
@Landsend-Railroad4 жыл бұрын
I do not know of any supplier offering such a plow. This one is scratch-build using brass sheet metal. It is attached in place of the normal front coupler. Thank you for your comment.

Do the rails get dirty from the snow, or is the engine battery powered?
@Landsend-Railroad4 жыл бұрын
The snow does not impede the power pick-up from the rails. However, this engine is battery powered and radio controlled.
@kennycastro4 жыл бұрын
Thank you, I was watching your other videos, and how did you make your bridges? And did you make the mountain, or was it part of the yard before the railroad? How did you do it?
@Landsend-Railroad4 жыл бұрын
The bridges are made from Cedar wood, cut into suitably sized miniature timbers and assembled using Titebond III glue and pins. The viaducts are cast into self-made forms and the surfaces carved to look like quarry stones wile the concrete was still green. Prior to building the railroad the entire backyard was a flat grassy surface. All features, like the pond and all elevations and the rocks were brought in and placed as needed before any rails were installed in accordance to a plan I designed.
