How true. It has been "free" on Xbox for pc for a bit now, but this would be a much better grab. I wonder if it will be just the base game or include the DLC? The 49X is pretty decent and ticks the three boxes of crane/bed/trailer which most trucks cannot do (of if they can their turning circle is woefully limited like the new Bandit). I don't use trucks with a bed and crane if it means I can't hook up a trailer. I can't use a maintenance trailer or any cargo trailers to complete tasks with them, so I have to go without the crane. As for the thing about the Black River crossing, and how scouts float and heavy trucks get traction, wait until you give the new CAT a spin. I got it all the way through the devil's mud in North Port, no winching, just straight line through the middle. And it's even better with the fuel tank add-on. Obviously the lack of AWD hurts it, but otherwise... It's a beast.

The thing with crane+bed+trailer is that is only needed on early game (mainly Michigan) as a bit later on, you can have which ever truck you like as a small crane and/or big crane designated vehicle. On my case I liked the bandit as I have a designated off-road small crane for cargo rescue in bad spots. At this point in game life cycle, the main this is smart fleet building

Yeah that’s the nice thing about it having a long chassis 👍🏻! I tried it with the bandit and yeah it’s nice that it can get a trailer just so you can fix it etc at a trailer store, but it did make it basically undrivable and wasn’t able to turn really! Yeah that cat seems pretty good at that kind of terrain and planting itself down, I think the tyres are larger versions of the P16 tyres which also have better tyre stats, they need to up the stats of the majority of tyres in this game really 👍🏻

I wanted to take a maintenance trailer when exploring this map but the bandit is a bit too short to handle it, that’s about the only time I like that set up is when exploring 👍🏻

I still want to have the ability to lift cargo back into my truck when I tip over or for the tasks that involve picking up random cargo around the map. I can't do that if I don't have a crane. I don't play with an self-imposed hardcore modes like only craning cargo in/out of my truck (no autoloading) but I do like to have the utility if I need it. I find using a trailer (for repairs or cargo) is necessary for my game. That said, if the devs changed the system so repairs worked like fuel, that would be awesome and my fleet would look entirely different...

@@joshm1636 on the contrary, I love having a small crane + bed dedicated truck for exactly the same reasons you stated and when using the big crane is cumbersome or impractical. What I meant Is that with the amount of free trucks you get in mid game, crane + bed + trailer capable is not that important. Neither I play hardcore cargo pick ups, even if I like some extra busy work. I only try to justify using more than 3 or 4 trucks only! For example, the bandit can pick up cargo (lost or on hard access point) and feed the new 49x with that huge semi in main roads. I found fun doing this kind of approach, as a solo truck can be stranded far and working in pairs assure quicker recoveries. And you get to use more trucks!

I'm enjoying my 49X so far, I would say the truck is absolutely worth the asking price, but also not at all a necessary purchase. To me it seems a cross between the Royal and the Derry 3194, very light feeling similar to the Royal, like the Derry the lift axle can be inconvenient on some terrains and the turning radius isn't great compared many of the 6x6 trucks. Where the 49X shines for me is the look, that engine power, and the fact that it can equip all the most useful attachments including bed+crane+trailer.

Yeah overall I’m pretty happy with it, I will be using it here and there, unlike the apache which is useless lol! Yeah I think it’s like a leaner version of the Derry really! I like the engine power particularly, and it is a nice looking truck! It’s handy with the long chassis too that it can have the crane, bed, and trailer 👍🏻!

The real 49x has options for a sleeper cab behind/above the driver, which makes it look more like the Navistar.

In america there are regulations about access to areas, remote or otherwise, for emergency services ig there is people in that area. Also we love dozers, just look up them cutting roads into the sides of mountains and stuff.

Yeah exactly so most of the time America doesn’t need a serious off road machine, just some trucks that can handle it when the time comes! Yeah I wish they’d add a dozer to this game lol so we can move some rocks and clear some routes out etc 👍🏻

I noticed that when you were in the garage switching through body addons, the fuel tank just bottomed out the suspension and that is when you would operate the lift axle, to add another set of suspension to help even the load.

Yeah I did actually try that and it still completely bottoms it out lol, but you’re right, that’s what it would help with is spreading the weight 👍🏻! it’s not really the trucks fault, that fuel tank is seriously overweighted in this game and it bottoms just about every truck out!

Also, I'm pretty sure the only reason they added the stabilizer axle is to classify the truck as a "heavy" otherwise it would either be "heavy duty" or "offroad". Why they wanted a "heavy" classification I do not know other than maybe they wanted to differentiate the truck more from it's implementation in American Truck Simulator.

Yeah maybe they did? I seen a video on a real life 49x and it has all 3 rear axles as fixed axles with power to all of them, I think there’s a lot of set ups it can have in real life, but it would be cool to make it fixed in this game too and have power going to it! Oh have they got it in the American truck sim game too, makes sense I guess as it’s a new truck, no exclusivity with just this game then

@@kilianortmann9979 it might do in the right situation, but as happened with me on top of the mountain, although that axle helped lift the fuel tanks off the ground, with no power to that axle, it just lifted my 2 rear axles off the floor so I couldn’t get going anyway! It’s one of those things where sometimes it’ll help, and sometimes it’ll get in the way really 👍🏻

The 49x was not built purpose as an on highway truck it is considered a vocational truck witch means it can be set up for off road when used for logging as one of its jobs

I'm loving this truck. I've been using a ton in the Yukon as a low saddle hauler and it's been great, it's gotten through everything on the map, and I was even able to get the Cat 770G trailer back to the garage without needing any other vehicles to help it along. The stabilizer axle isn't very useful in the Yukon, but it would definitely be useful on maps with more pavement like Michigan and Alaska when hauling heavier loads like concrete and metal beams. The UOD 2 tires are much better in mud than the chained tires as well.

In the update they made the derry longhorn awd n diff-lock all time it made it alot better. I drove it all over the foothills in was impressed

I think it’s had the diffs always on since the last update, but either way you’re right it’s a much better truck these days and handles the terrain pretty well 👍🏻! That new western star 49X is kind of similar with the liftable axle and so on!

After just dicking around with it for about an hour, I've come up with a really nice balance for it. Turning the lift axle into a rear (with drive and handbrake). You can only really marginally increase the size of the tyres before it interferes with the arches and you're stuck with one size option here if you want them all to match. I've ended up with lower suspension (it's fully active now) and I've not tipped it yet. It raises to the stock height, though I've found I don't really need to. I've also changed the lift axle tyres to an off-road one to match my other tyres. There have been other tweaks here and there to the suspension and wotnot, plus I gave the engine a shedload more torque (which it really didn't need so I increase fuel consumption of that one to compromise it). It's a fun truck after all that. I've just done a madly challenging route in it with the large semi fuel trailer and it handled it nicely. I like it now.

I take it back, raising it up is marvellous for clearing rocks. EDIT: and then it becomes properly tippy again. Which I actually have no problem with as it makes you use lowered mode 90% of the time and only raise it up when you get stuck.

I agree with you it usefulness is limited for extreme offroad but i've found it effective enough on most maps. It's also in American truck sim but i imagine they haven't gone to Scania yet due to the lack of any European maps (hopefully phase 4 or year 2). The highrange on it is powerful even when compared with other trucks so i think grip is it's issue along with weight (can be solved with enough lo4fs) but with access to larger tires and muds i bet it could compete with the twinsteer. Oh just a not if you want an easy way to load the CAT TH357 then my advice would be raise the forks up and place them on a trailer then use them to lift the front end up either drive it on or winch it on. I pack and advanced winch just as it's a fairly stable vehicle and it's unlikely to be something i drive out alone if i'm going to be handling cargo.

Yeah it seems like a decent enough truck, but the smaller tyres and lack of muds does hold it back a bit! I agree it could compete with the twin steer if it had all the tyre options! At least it’s got plenty of power 👍🏻! Thanks for the tip, I just wish they’d increase the crane strength so it could lift more stuff onto the trailers

I like this truck, and like you said, you have to know its limitations. You wont be flying up and down Zimnegorsk or Imandra with it, but give it hauling jobs in like Alaska, and it shines. I did all the new contracts in Alaska with this one and the Navistar working in tandem. Brilliant.

On PC we have 3 MAN Trucks, a Mercedes G-Class and a Mercedes Actros with full working Interior and original exterior.. not to mention not as ecclusive Brands. And i dont think the Mod creators have bought the licence for that. On Console they stated that only Mods who dont get in the way of Licencing stuff will be released, but on PC they dont seem to care. That doesnt really make any sence.

It's to do with Sony and Microsoft. Sabre need to have the licence for the brand before a mod can release under that said brand. For Sabre it's quicker and easier for them to have mods pass for console if they have the brand licence. Otherwise they could get sued along with Sony and Microsoft.

@@DarkxAssassiNx I agree with this. PC and Console are 2 completely different animals. I "believe" on PC the modder is responsible for what they do, while on the console side, if they allow non-licensed content, they probably could be held responsible. PC is such a more open format, which is why mods, and even game updates, are so much more complicated on consoles. P.S. I have and use a xbox frequently, so don't @ me. :)

Yeah I think on pc it’s kinda like the Wild West with mods lol and people add all sorts! I think with consoles it’s going to be a lot more tricky to just allow anything, and they’ll probably have to get permission and licences for branded stuff! Hopefully those trucks do make it to console though 👍🏻

Yeah I’ve had a go and it’s improved the truck a lot, I just wish they’d sort those tyres out as they feel unrealistically slippy? It’s not the ANK’s fault and yeah it is a much more useable truck now 👍🏻

Man, always on spot! It looks like that this 49x has a lot of hinderance from the extra wheels and the "german shepard" rear suspension (the ct680 one). But just like you said, it looks like a good main road puller. Perhaps replacing the good old WWS. The thing is, in my late game account it is quite useless. As I got a ton of offroad trucks to go end to end. The big 8 slot semi can be the only use I can think of for the kicks of transfering cargo! haha

Yeah overall they do get in the way more than they help, but it’s still a decent enough truck for the lighter terrain kind of roads 👍🏻! I think it would replace the WWS very well, it’s got a lot of power and drives pretty well too! I’ve got the same problem on my playthrough that most stuff is completed so most of the maps don’t get used much! I hope they make mission resets a thing!

The way they've done the lift axle on this truck means you can't really do that as they'll always be the same wheel/tyre/rim no matter what you set the others to.

Worth every penny. Solid truck everywhere, except in the deep mud. I recommend it. Gotta love the orange glow on the sides while driving at night 👍🏻

I play this game on PC and I have access to mods for many months now, but majority of my game time, I avoid all mods. Using modded truck just don't feel right, it's like I'm just cheated and wasted the missions... PS: for me, this truck just is a better version of Freightliner / fleetstar / paystar / GMC...

I felt this way and avoided mods for a long time.. Until they introduced the supersnow and now supermud. What I tend to do on my main playthrough now is to use the mods that I think "Fix" bad trucks. Not make them super OP, just more useable and what "I" consider to be more realistic. I hardly ever use modded trucks on the "older" maps, because it does just make it too easy and a bit boring. I do like things like the "trailer mods". I do use them everywhere. Mods are fun to play with, but if you go overboard, it just takes all of the challenge/fun out of it.

Yeah for completing missions and stuff, I don’t want to use OP trucks that make it too easy, but I would like some trucks with at least modded tyres because some of the terrain is just unrealistic levels of slow, and more grip won’t really change the trucks on normal terrain where they drive along as normal, but it should hopefully reduce the amount of super snow and mud sections that are needlessly slow! Yeah I think it is a better version of all of them too, it’s not the best truck, but it’s a nice enough truck to use here and there 👍🏻

This truck would be alright as an included truck but I wouldn't recommend paying for it by no means. I know the real version was made to have a light but stronger cab then it's predecessors but yeah the in game version could use a bit of weight. Bigger tires be a plus also 👍

If you miss the Western Star (I did and bought this) from Mudrunner this as close as you will get IRL this truck is replacing it. But really not worth it otherwise.

@Allosaurus 67 lol I liked the 6900 in that game, it wasn’t the best at off roading, but it motored along the roads and dirt roads very well and could pull a lot of weight pretty easily

I agree with you about the super snow and now super mud along with the new contracts delivering 20 and 30 items to the same place, they have manged to make what was a great game to the verge of being boring, they need to fix the winches and cranes and make routes more challenging i.e. more risk of tipping or falling off the edge of cliffs, ike you i used to enjoy the rescues when cranes and winches worked....

Yeah those sections are getting annoying, not because they’re difficult, just boring and repetitive, I just try to find routes through the trees and so on to go around them! I noticed some of the missions are massive lol, they can’t seem to find a balance, some missions on this game are too simple, like drive to a location, and others are huge, more middle ground missions with 6-10 cargo or something would be nice 👍🏻

I love this side of Snowrunner, you abuse the hell out of your game by dumping literally 100s of trailers filled with cargo somewhere. I try to do stuff neat and tidy, rather go slow than do it 2-3 times. But I love how you do it (Y)

I will give you a word of warning I was during a lot of the side missions and I ran out of material for the main missions on both maps and no I did not delete anything I ran out of medium pipes and cement blocks and I have 2 bugged missions I cannot. Deliver the cabins I put them down they won't register good luck on your map

Thanks for the heads up 👍🏻 I’ve not checked myself, but I’ve been told that there are some places that has unlimited materials that you might be able to use? Hopefully they iron out the bugs pretty quick though, I’ve had a few myself! As for the cabin thing, are you able to drive to the mission square and make it complete that way? With the manual loading mission to put the barrels on the loading dock, it wouldn’t take them from me, but someone said to go to the square and then it brought up a menu to drop them off like cargo and it completed the mission!

There are unlimited supplies of all the common materials in certain warehouses and you can use those materials at crafting stations to create the other ones. So, basically you'll never run out of material. Scout some more.....

I think your on to something with the tire size. It might be kind of the "snowshoe" effect. The big wide tires ride on the top. My TO I (tat tires) are much thinner and might be able to get down to whatever is under all that mud, snow, or whatever. I can take a stock hummer, put the TO I(TAT) tires on it, and drive through the CENTER of the "devils mud", slowly mind you, but steady. I think the "tire stats" that ppl are talking about are.......Misleading. Other than ice, I would take a Tat tire over anything else in the game. If there was a Tat tire with chains, that would be soooooo OP. There has to be something else effecting why these tires, as far as I have seen, are the best in the game, even though the "stats" don't support that.

Yeah I don’t really bother with the tyre stats anymore as I think they’re misleading too, I think other things are factored in before the end result, and my experience doesn’t seem to line up with the stats either! For me personally the chained muds seem to be the best in the game overall, like they keep their mud characteristics, but get a few chained bonuses like biting into the terrain underneath the soft stuff better! The Tat tyres do seem to be the best by far, someone put them on a yar 87 and said it drove through just about everything too 👍🏻

Lol im not buyin it on principle. $4 in my budget isnt hardly pocket change honestly. The whole point of the season pass has been negated for sure. I mean im buying firearms as Christmas presents tbh. Oh well, definitely agree the apache is crap, from what ive seen. I cant be bothered to even mod it into my save. Debating if its worth the effort to find the files for this pile or not. Id have no issue giving money for the Navistar even if it was crap. Yeah I don’t blame you dude, the season pass should be the season pass for all stuff, or make that cleat from the start! Haha firearms sound like a much better investment and possibly needed soon with what’s going on! I’ll say no more lol 👍🏻! Yeah the apache is just terrible, it’s slow and boring and can’t tow trailers or anything! I’m really liking the Derry 3194 recently, since the diffs being always on, and that axle out the way, it’s a pretty decent truck on roads and light off roading, and can haul some serious weight! Much better than the other Derry that’s for sure 👍🏻!

Yeah you’ll get all the season pass stuff like the new maps etc! the premium edition is just the normal game and the season pass together, if you’ve already bought the game then you should be able to just buy and download the season pass on it’s own in the store 👍🏻

I would like to clarify how MODS work, as I understand it, for those on console. (This excludes PC file editing, and is just hitting subscribe on Mod.io, which is going to be pretty much what console users are going to be limited to.) You are NOT modding a truck you already have. You HAVE to BUY (from the in game money store) the modded truck. The price is set by modder. The price for the MODS to the truck is also set by the Modder. So...you HAVE to BUY the MODDED truck, AND BUY any upgrades. Depending on the Modder, this can be 1 unit of payment, or it can be in line with other trucks or addons for sale in the store. This is why, in my OPINION, DLC truck mods are being removed. If you are modding the truck someone had to pay for, then share it, you would be getting a "modded DLC truck" from the store for free.

I think in certain areas/situations. The game definitely activates simulated difficulty. You could have a hovercraft and it would bog down lol

All I do is let it get up to 8th gear in auto, and then drop it into high gear and it should do it, it works much better and easier on trucks that you can turn the awd off, so try it when it’s only the back axles that are getting power! Also it works like this on ps4, it might be a bit different on pc if you’re on that 👍🏻

Nah, not for me. I understand as a reviewer that you have to get this, but I'm done being nickel and dimed by Snowrunner. I paid for the season pass and the Marshall, and then the Apache, and the last two disappointed as they deliberately left off the tow hook to make the less useful. I have lots of useful trucks, I don't need to pay for another one. I have started downloading some modded vehicles (on PC), which are free and far better and more fun.

My guess would be licensing fees...This was not part of the original offering, so was not included in the cost of the base game, or the season pass. To use the brand name, they have to pay for it. Just my opinion, but I think that's why they are charging for these trucks.
