Interesting, we just finished something close to this, It'll be on here shortly. We didn't have access to the SRX or the Mach Z, but we did use a 900 Turbo R and comparable T Cat. Thanks for the breakdown, and thanks for not saying the Rave is too stiff! I know it can be uncomfortable (for some), but I love it, and don’t want to BRP water this down like they did the XRS all because some people bought the wrong sled. There is a sled for every ass, and this one is on my Rave!

You guys should to a long term review on each. A cost of operation and long-term ownership impression. I know my brother loved the 850 patriot until he was forced to use 3x as much oil as the liberty. I love the composition of the Polaris but it can get boring. Then there's the Polaris drive bearing issue that sits in the back of your mind. The wild side of the BPR is great to have on tap. Not going broke in oil is always nice. And not worring about a drive shaft digging through the tunnel is nice too. I think if I was to look at long-term ownership I would pick the BPR. More fun...less oil....and no worries of drive bearings failing. Your videos are great. Fantastic production and camera work. However, I feel they come up too vague on the ownership side of sledding. Safe riding....maybe in a couples weeks that is....Snow muskoka snow!

You gotta fair point, everybody loves the front suspension and steering of the polaris until the motor blows. which I can't think of many 850 etecs that have blown under 6000 miles (with the exception of the summit lineup.) But I haven't heard of any 850 patriots blowing either. Then again they are only a 3 year old motor, so not too many people have put mega miles on them yet.
@buildingreno
@buildingreno 2 жыл бұрын
@@duckdestroyer2412 my brother has about 7000km on his 850. It has had 2 factory recalls to have the ecm reflashed. This is to deal with the massive oil consumption. It's still not fixed. He loves the sled but the cost of operation really kills the buzz. He has also had to replace the driveshaft bearings. Again, under warranty....the 1st time. A long-term review I think would put the brp way out front.
@pavmentsurfer13
@pavmentsurfer13 2 жыл бұрын
We arent able to do long term testing. The way our business works is that we get sleds for one year to test and put miles on. We get asked for long term reviews all the time and, unfortunately, its just not possible. Not only that, but if I continued to ride a 2022 in 2023 and 2024... I wouldnt have good opinions on the 2023 and 2024 sleds.... With that said, there is no evidence to suggest that the Polaris 850 is any less reliable than the skidoo 850. They all have their problems. The failure rates of both, by percentage, are nearly identical. Ive seen the official numbers. The bearing issue with the Patriot was solved and handled extremely well by Polaris. Theres no reason to continue to worry about it.

Thanks for the comment Matthew, the reason we didnt just pick the Polaris as a "winner" is simple. Like weve ALWAYS said, our opinions have nothing to do with brand bias. We only care about what WORKS best. Over the past few years, the polaris's sleds have worked better, overall, than anything else on the snow. This season though, the Lynx works every bit as good as the Polaris... in the ways we think are important. So its getting big compliments from us. Which proves the point that its never been about brand. Its always been about what works.

Lynx is designed to run on the 600 engine which is unavailable in the US - 850 makes it snappy low down and uncomfortable when the trails get curvy. Also they are not top of the line shocks - If someone wanted those the lynx would come with Totaltek or Öhlins shocks as standard.

Both great sleds. Its funny how brand bias people are. I feel the BRP sleds have better wieght transfer for wheelies however that can be a detriment in the deep snow where you want to get up on top and not trench, The Polaris will always feel narrower (more dirt bike like) because of the 15" track. The doo is just wider especially with the brake being down on the drive shaft. Motors? well I have heard mixed things on which one is more powerful. For reliabilty of motor I would hand to BRP. Clutching and front suspension I just like the Polaris better.

If memory serves me right Luke, you had one when you came up to Timmins for an episode a few years ago. So I find my Pro S the best riding sled I’ve ever had and ridden and I’ve ridden a fair bunch of them. So my question is what, if any, would be a good upgrade from there? I did upgrade my track to a 1.75 and it really made it better off trail and still great on trail. Xc?, Assault? XCR? Ski-doo? Cat? I also love the ease of removing the panels to maintain my sled. So yeah! Sorry for the long scenario question. Thanks guys!

My buddy has Lynx and I have VR1 850. Both great sleds, and in the trails are fast and comfortable. It’s all personal choice. 👍😊 For fuel consumption or mileage, the Lynx is a little better, but the difference between them is small. Nice vid of comparisons! Sometimes it isn't 'that' one machine is better than another, but just tuning capabilities for the rider. Sometimes, like between these two brands, you have to pick the sled type for your riding style, and then choose between aesthetics, because both are equally as tunable, with differences being so minute they don't make one better than the other. These comparisons show excellent engineering from two different companies, as both brands have adjustability for the snow conditions, with all riding types in mind.

I prefer the Lynx because I like to ride up over moguls with skis dangling and all the way down to the bottom without any bottoming out hitting hard feeling. I rode XRS's in the past and found them a little soft in this area. I'd always find my shock rubbers completely collapsed on the front. This is where the Lynx really shines. When you land after a jump it feels plush and not so harsh like the XRS. I've never ridden the XCR but imagine it is very similar to the XRS in the way it handles high speed moguls. It's not quite got enough suspension to take all the hits like the Lynx. The Lynx is the perfect machine for fast trail and bashing rough trails. It's not lifting too much on corners that you feel the slightest hesitations. By the time the skis are lifted coming out of the corner you've hut the apex and are already pointing straight down the trail. It's the most fun. If you want to relax on the Lynx just sit back on the seat more. Very little input is needed to corner. Just shift your weight and if your going a little quicker then switch from one cheek to the other on the seat. The only time you have to hang off the thing is when going super aggressive and through tighter corners faster than you should be. Then your forward and hanging off the side more. It seems to shine in all areas. If I was a rider that drives in single file with a train of sleds most of the time I wouldn't own this sled. This is for aggressive driving most of the time and it shines.

@@snowtrax suspension/chassis/shocks/engine...almost identical on the Assault/Lynx....Assault uncoupled in rear/stiffer shocks all around like the Lynx...and yes it's different track lengths but the Assault has tipped rails in the rear. So in essence almost identical to track on the ground with the Lynx. Only real difference is where the rear shock is mounted...Lynx is more uncoupled but Assault has tipped rails. Both mogul/wheelie monsters!!!

@@snowtrax I kind of agree (i have an XCR, Indy and an Assault..all 2020 and newer) - putting the 'category' of them being high end rough trail sled etc, is good BUT the Lynx and Assault have a more similar trail platform. Suspension and trail reactions (playful and front end popping up at any given time), so it would be interesting to see the comparo. I know the Assault is considered more of a crossover - which oddly I find it better than my others on trail for various reasons. To ME, it sounds like a direct comparison to the Assault in your description of the Lynx 'on trail' characteristics. So that's a WIN for me! :) Also, I appreciate the content and work that goes into all your videos - great job!

If Lynx put a XRS seat on it so u can get up on the tank for those high speed turns and Cut the tops of side panels down, the LYNX would be a way better trail sled then the XCR. Hands Down. Until Polaris gets rid of walker Evans on the snow check sleds, the XRS and the LYNX have a way better ride then the ProCC, those Velocity shocks are crap right from the start. Atleast BRP gives u a good set up in valving from the get go

What makes me chuckle, is those who can afford these sleds really should not be riding them because they tend to be the most timid on the trail not wanting to scratch it. Those who really belong on these sleds cannot afford them but are passing these sleds on a much older chassis. Kind of like those who buy a Ferrari and live directly in downtown NY or a Range Rover Discovery with a full out snorkel kit and adventure rack and the vehicle never leaves Brooklyn, NY. Just my experience living in New England for decades. Over all EXCELLENT REVIEW!!!! You hit the nail on the head. Thank you!

It’s my understanding that the lynx was actually built and designed for ungroomed trails. If the trails are groomed from what I have heard from people that have ridden the sleds is that the XCR is going to corner and handle better than the lynx. Just like you said for groomed trails the lynx is too stiff. The XCR is not too stiff when it is dialed all the way down.

In Finland most trail's are really, really rough. Bumbs an moguls all day. Main trails are of course groomed. Lynx is made to handle those rough trails, for an agressive riders. It's essentially an rally car, while rest are sport cars.

Buddy, go back and watch it again. Sometimes there isnt a WINNER... And picking a "winner" is far less important that explaining what the sleds do well and where they lack. If one was better in every way than the other, I would have picked a winner. But as I said in the story, they are so similar in so many ways that their slight differences dont make one better than the other. They just make one better suited to a specific style of riding than the other, and vice versa. Its not a cop out, its giving our viewers the best and most honest info to help them make the best buying decision possible.
