I'm very confused about the 1 hour mark. There appear to be a lot of cars parked along the side (and occasionally people walking) yet not seeing any buildings, I can't figure out where the people are. It just appears that a lot of cars are abandoned along a road with no where to go. Are all the people just driving out to the country to park and take walks? ~From a confused American. Thank you :)
@DavesWalks4 жыл бұрын
Hi there Gina! Yeah pretty much all the cars there are people just exploring the country, talking walks amongst the snow covered tops, It is a very popular place with some spectacular views, I believe their are a lot of families out taking their children out to sledge on the hills that are around. It only snows once every few years, so people seize the opportunity fast as it is often melted and gone very quickly, in this case all the snow was gone the next day as it rained in the night.

1:05:31 Winnets Pass. Is my fave part of Castleton. It’s amazing how the snow from Winnetts Pass stops at the bottom and stays clear all the way through past Peak Cavern. I imagine that will be because of how warm the caves are under the ground. I’ve always found them warm on my visits. Thank you for this awesome video. X

I thought I recognised that pass you drive through. Winnats Pass. A mate and myself parked up in Castleton and walked up to Win Hill and camped in the woods next to Ladybower for a bit of wild camping. Just a couple of Vango Banshee's and of course, left no trace. Went for a trek around the dam the next day. Nice part of the peaks that area, Hope Valley.

What a journey, I used to live in Buxworth, when you turned off the A6 heading for Chinley you drove past Buxworth school where my son started primary, then on through Chinley onwards round the back of Chapel -en-le Frith heading to Castleton. I haven’t been round those areas for about twenty years , but knew it all intimately. So thank you Kevin for a lovely trip down memory lane.

Any plans to get up to either the Lake District or the Dales this year? Malham Cove would be a great walk... but obviously you're limited to what you can film with location, lock-down, etc.
@DavesWalks3 жыл бұрын
It would be the dream to go film there, very much want to do Malham Cove and Gordale Scar, and the certainly all around the lake district! Want to do Helvellyn and striding edge! For now the lockdown has my hands tied behind my back. Only filming around my hometown until lockdown ends. Potentially could have a gap in uploads as I am running out of stuff to publish. I am optimistic though, the end is in sight I reckon.

I'm late with this, but it's sad to see that you've changed the camera. I was watching your videos one by one starting from the earliest, and at one moment something felt wrong - it was the first video with gopro camera. With gopro I'm no longer "there", walking with you, but I'm looking at yet another youtube video. Video quality is noticeably worse, compressed, blurry (even on a good 4k monitor, it doesn't feel like 4k) possibly also audio is worse. Also the colors are worse. It's hard for me to explain why the videos are no longer so pleasant to look at, why it's not so "real" anymore, maybe I'm oversensitive. But some of your earlier videos made with Lumix are a masterpiece, almost unbelievably beautiful and I thank you for them. And no need to explain why you have changed the camera - I understand the reasons. Btw. I was trying to find a description of gopro video quality to check if there's something wrong with me, and one of the first things I found was this: community.gopro.com/t5/Cameras/Poor-GoPro-Hero-8-video-quality/td-p/675961 - the comment that Hypersmooth "will actually crop your image and lower your resolution. In lower light situations such as indoors with artificial light, it will blur your footage". But this is probably only a part of the problem (and I don't know if it's true).
@DavesWalks3 жыл бұрын
Hey there, sorry for the late reply, anything with links KZbin puts into the spam section which I don't check regularly. I agree absolutely with what you say. GoPro has absolutely lowered the quality I like to put out. It's frustrated me to no end the GoPro. And disheartening as I want to maintain that high quality I started with. Twice I showed them the quality and told them the hypersmooth doesn't even work, they agreed and on both occasions and sent me a replacement free of charge leading me to think I was just unlucky with faulty GoPro's, but the third was exactly the same. Unless the camera is aimed at the sun, stabilisation doesn't work, and even at its best 4k really just isn't 4k. As of last December I was able to save up and buy the DJI Pocket 2 and oh my what a game changer. Have a look at my recent walking videos, from Castleton at night and onwards. I really think the image quality stands up quite well to the Lumix, really good sharp 4k Image even in very low light, and the sound is fantastic too. I don't even need the external mic anymore (another thing which lowered the quality of the GoPro yet was necessary as GoPro has nasty sound quality) considering its a tiny little camera in comparison to Lumix set up, have a look and tell me what you think, I hope you can start to feel "there" now. A tough learning curve indeed for me. I use the GoPro only for driving videos now, and I only put out a driving video every last Sunday of the month.
