So, About That Iron Lung Movie...

Markiplier recently announced that he's directing and starring in a film adaptation of Iron Lung. But the details so far have been pretty slim... or have they?

I doubt they'll go for a straight up adaptation of the game, i wouldn't be surprised if we see the silent rapture happen, them finding the moons, etc. Maybe it even takes place on a separate mission set after the one in the game. Either way, iron lung is a very small game, they will definitely add a lot to it to make it worth a film

Yeah they're definitely free to take it in a lot of different directions. Budget is a big constraint if they decide to go beyond the single-room set though.

@@EphiTV A Heist and In Space had a ton of different locations, maybe at a lower/different production value than they're going for here but I still think it's pretty reasonable for them to have more sets than just the sub, at least I hope so.

personally im expecting something along the lines of the move the lighthouse, where the fear comes from the lighthouse, using its limited cramped enviornment to the fullest. with a lot of the lore coming from the voices coming through the speaker, as they speak with the prisoner. i expect we will actually see little, and what we do see is likely going to be up for debate on if its actually happening

Yeah I guess exploring the lore would be the best route...but a 2 hour art house style film of Markiplier going crazy and showing us the depths of humanity or whatever a la the lighthouse...

I can't imagine it'll be a 1:1 adaptation; the game doesn't lend itself to that. I hope it'll build more on the lore of the universe and the Silent Rapture.

I would like to metion that in one of marks podcasts distractible he talked about how the set is really cool and that he wanted to do his own stunts. He talked about the set being able to spin so there is definitely a scene where the sub is spinning. He mentioned this before the trailer of iron lung came out.

honestly, Markiplier by himself is amazing, Lixion by himself is amazing, but the two of them together is like highest tier michelin star quality. they couldn't have more synergy with anyone else on the planet. they are freaking unicorns. like I cant watch one without the other. the way they get along, beyond chefs kiss.

I noted they’re filming in Austin, TX. Robert Rodriguez lives here as well as his production company, Troublemaker Studios. My assumption would be they’re using their facilities as Rodriguez is a big supporter of indie filmmakers.

Yea. I’m an Austinite and it is really common to have Rodriguez show up to local indie screenings and give intros or run Q&As and such. If I remember correctly, his studio, along with the Austin Film Society, acquired warehouse space at the decommissioned airport that they use, and can be rented, as studio space for filming.

There was an update a few months after the game came out adding a console with a bunch of lore to the sub. Mostly vague stuff though. It might be hard to stretch this out to feature-length, but I'm interested to see how they handle it.

I am yet to see any "diehard fanboys" of his or anyone "worshipping" him. Mark is one of the few youtubers that puts actual effort into his original work like this, and while it probably won't be Hollywood level production or anything, I imagine it'll still be entertaining.
