So behind in the garden! Spring colour, sowing seeds and planting summer bulbs

Who else feels like they're totally behind when it comes to their garden? With a mix of rubbish weather and lots happening behind the scenes, the days and weeks are flying by! But this week, I'm starting small and ticking off things on my garden list.

I sat outside on my balcony watching your video with headphones. When I heard the sea gulls I looked up at the sky thinking why are there sea gulls? I have never seen sea gulls here before🤔🤣😂🤣

I'm on catchup too, I had great plans but the weather didn't allow for anything. The weather has been so wet, I could've even walk on my grass to do any tidying, but everyone is in the same boat this year. So lovely to see you planting lots of seeds. I like corn so might get seeds/kernels to sow some of them too. Lovely video Karen, thank you.

First time last year I grew gladioli and I loved them, your video showing your gladioli bulbs also just reminded me what them shoots coming up in the border are 😊

I can only work in the garden a little at a time, so that works for me. I haven't even started any of my seeds yet. I have everything ready, but last year I couldn't plant them out until the second or third week of June. UGHHH! I'm ready for the late frost this year. You have me itching to get going though. I had to laugh because you sounded just like me when I forgot to plant my bulbs in November/December and and finally had time to plant them in March! Despite a critter stealing some of them from the pots, and the finicky weather, I have seen a few blooms and look forward to more. Love your garden and can't wait to see everything bloom!

I so agree with pricking out and getting rid of the weaker seedlings. I was quite sickly and very small when I was younger, and I always imagine my parents snipping off the weaker one which would have been me and I have to save them all.

I ended up picking up 4 small annual plants yesterday. I just felt the need for instant color. I didn't spend much, but I feel a little better now. I also planted a few more cosmos seeds.

Oh yes lists are brilliant. As they say as a gardener you are never done, I used to spend hours on hours in the garden and get so exhausted. Now I just try and do a little every day or so. It could be deadheading, feeding plants or just tidying up a small area. I find this is more satisfying for me than exhausting myself for hours, then have a raging headache 😅 I have a few bulbs to plant in my garden, planting hyacinths, daffs, and a few other bulbs i spoilt myself with 😊❤ hugs from Australia I’m planning to plant a few tomorrow xx

I was happy to see you back today. It sounds like you had a great week with your nephew. The two trees you mentioned repotting will do well repotted into pots twice the size of their current pots. Little Tip: I was thinking about all the condensation on your seed lids. If you went out each day and tapped the lids they’d get quite a bit of water as you have a lot more condensation in Ireland than we do in Canada. It would add up so quickly just tapping them each day.

I love gardening it just makes me feel better when I’m having a bad day.But this weather has been so bad lately.So windy and wet all of the time.Lovely here in Devon on Sunday , so I managed to get out and do some tidying up, then today, Monday is awful, so no gardening today. I keep a gardening diary and it is good to look back on previous , because sometimes I forget what I’ve planted! Your garden is looking lovely.x

Hi Karen, yes I'm behind too. I have so many seeds to sow and the weather has been so bad. Slugs are everywhere as well and they're chomping their way through my seedlings in my growhouses. Every pot has a slug under it. However.....I'm taking one job at a time! I've only just got my first early Potatoes in, it's just been too wet..Loved the vlog and seeing your garden. x

I think a lot of people have had poor seed germination this year unless you’ve got a heated greenhouse. It’s such a shame as seeds aren’t that cheap anymore. I think we’re going to have to resort to buying tomato plants as ours are not showing either. I get a funny throat and a blocked nose when I do a lot of potting I blame the fibres off the compost. Lovely blog I’m like you I find joy in the returning plants. 😊

I’ve got most of those same seeds to sow hopefully tomorrow. I planted my sweet peas when you planted yours. They grew so quickly. At about eight inches I cut the tops out😱I sure didn’t want to but that’s what I kept seeing people do with theirs. They grew back quickly and I planted them in my huge planter over the weekend. I had already put my teepee or wigwam trellis in first. They are looking great. I was so afraid the cold would hurt them but they did well. I planted nasturtium too. They are nine inches tall. I planted those in my planter today. They are a bit spindly. I guess I should have pinched those early. Those are the fasted sprouts ever. I soaked them first and they came up and were at least two inches tall in 4 days. I’ve never planted flower seed other than morning glories until this year. I was inspired by you to try them. Your flowers are beautiful and the colors are gorgeous.

Sowed 4 types of cosmos and a tray of Zinnias last week. Planning to sew my sunflowers this week. I'm on the warpath with the slugs and snails which have found all my seedlings in my plastic greenhouses.

Watching you while having lunch. I've just spent the morning in the garden cutting the grass for the first time this year as we've had so much rain here in the N.E. of England. Ground was still a bit damp but I managed OK. At least it was easy to trim the edges as the soil was soft. It's great to get back in the garden again, even had a nice chat with the neighbour. Happy days ❤

I've spent the whole weekend in the garden and although I am shattered I've done lots of jobs that were playing on my mind. Housework not done!!! Oh I’m so behind 😢 so much rain and freezing temperatures contributed to it. That’s great advice. I’ve been a bit bummed over it but I’ve been trying to do something every day. I’m so overwhelmed. I still have sooo much yet to plant. Tomorrow is a big seed sowing day hopefully. 🤞 you got a lot done though.

All the decisions where to put all our plants we randomly buy. 😅 I have a rose - she didn´t like the place I put her last year. She is in a pot for now (but a small one) - WHERE should I put her without rearraning half my border. 😂 My seedlings are all over my house. They are not too happy. If you tidy up the edges of the borders, it would look fantastic. I'm saying it cause my borders were the same I had nothing along the edges for a few years, I didn't want anything that would stand out or that would take up a lot of space so I got edging from woddies it's green and decrease 😅 I have it 3 years now and o my goodness the difference it makes.
