As someone who still lives in Southern California, parts of 2022 and 2023 were a breath of fresh air. We had a fall, winter, and spring. I got to watch the land go to sleep. We got rain, hail, and snow even in the lower elevations. I got to see snow on the mountains on my drive. For people who don't experience constant and perpetual BROWN as your landscape day in and day out, year after year, I cannot begin to explain how mentally healing it was to see snow. Then, when everything melted, and it started to warm, we had green everywhere and wildflowers on the sides of the freeways that hadn't had color since I was a teenager, and I'm in my mid 30s now. Having all four seasons is a blessing. Do cold winters suck? Yeah, they do, but I'll take the temporary discomfort of winter over summer and slightly cooler summer as my only options any day.

I have been saying this same message for years and finally I hear someone else expressing the same sentiments. I grew up in Vermont and moved to outskirts of Phoenix in my late 20’s. Loved it… for awhile. The “perpetual summer” does wear on you. You are alway “on”. I recently moved back to Vermont after 12 years and people are amazed… “Why would you move back to such a cold place!?” The thing is, I need a break. Like a day has a morning, daytime, evening and night to give you time to ready yourself, work, wind down and rest, so too should the the seasons. The spring is time to wake up, summer is a time to work hard and fall a time to wind down and prepare for the winter which forces you to rest and recuperate. Winter is essential. It’s a time to slow down, reflect, plan, set goals for the next season, spend time with family, allow your body to rebuild. In the perpetual summer, like ground hog’s day, your head is always down. You are always pushing. Always grinding in the toil. Years disappear and you look up once after a decade and realize the only change that has happened is the lines on your face, the pain in your back and the voices of your children. Then you put your head back down and get back to it. Winter is something you don’t know you need until it’s gone. Embrace this time. The universe has made us and earth to work together and meet each other’s needs with these seasons.

Waving from the tropics... you're not wrong. I miss autumn and winter snow so much. But, I just get on a plane and go to the snow, and I can grow pineapples and passion fruit and we have citrus year-round. Today is so hot we're just hiding in the aircon until about 4pm when we have to get a pig-sty snake-proofed for the baby turkeys we got this morning. It will be like this for a month at least, then months of storms and torrential rain. But we don't have to can or preserve, that's cool, I like fresh from the garden. And we have the Great Barrier Reef to go swim on. So it's swings and roundabouts, it's different, and I like that I've experienced living in many climates and countries. I don't think I could ever pick one "best" climate or country to live in. But I'd take cold over hot any day for just existing.
@terryhenderson4249 ай бұрын
You need to start looking for nylon rain gear type wear. Something thin which blocks the wind and over sized. To test for wind, put the garment up to your mouth and blow through it with a hand behind. Get jackets plenty over sized with elastic, velcro wrsp,, or draw string at the wrists. Youll want it to zip reasonably snug at the neck with the tuoemkf wind uounhave and a,so have a draw string at the waist. Draw the draw string pretty tight at the waist and let the rest of the jacket blouse over the draw string. Either tuck the hems of pants in your boots or elastic at the bottom of the legs. Draw string at the waist of the pants. In the wind, you want the type of fabric that doesn't breath. This set up over warm clothes works in the snow too.

There was a movie back in 1965 called Shenandoah. It starred Jimmy Stewart. There is a scene in the movie where the family gathers around the dinner table, bows their head, and Jimmy Stewart, being the Patriarch of the family, prays. The prayer would make your hair stand on end. It was so arrogant. May you all always be thankful, grateful, blessed, with strength, ability, and hearts that understand where that comes from. God is always the giver of good gifts. Love your family.
