We drove a Camry SE followed by the Accord Sport Hybrid. Always been a Toyota person since 1987, the Honda won us over and is so much more refined. Interior materials and finish are much better than Toyota and I couldn't get over how good the ride was considering you are running 19" wheels and low profile tires. The car is quiet and needless to say we took the Honda home.

I don't own either but am seriously considering the Accord. You can't go wrong with either one but the Camry looks a little forced and over-styled, both the exterior and interior. The dash and center console of the Accord look less cluttered and more refined.

Excellent review. Not enough reviewers give the Honda Accord the credit it deserves. Such a good drivers car. I've own a 2018 2.0T. It's wicked fast for an Accord (yes it's bit thirsty if you drive aggressively in Sport mode ...:) ). Put it in Econ on the highway though and 37-38 MPG is achievable. I also shopped the Camry V6 and Hybrid but the Accord was much sportier with better steering and superb turn-in response. So rewarding to drive, especially on a long trip and drives so much better than an SUV!. Cons: it's a bit low to the ground (older folks really complain when they get in/out) and no hatch.

I love the stealthy EV mode and it’s hard to perceive when the 2.0 engine kicks in. No question Honda makes a fine vehicle. I’ve bought many new over the years, Honda demonstrating a better value. Reliability is key, and both Honda and Toyota clear that (high) bar. If I was looking for a gas-only vehicle, Honda would remain my top choice. Hybrid is a totally different story. Being an engineer, I was truly impressed with the level of integration in the Prius, many years ago. Toyota only widened the margin, becoming the king of hybrids. The main reason to buy hybrid is gas mileage, and there is no question Toyota rules.

@@chief8268 No question the interior amenities, fit-n-finish, and probably ride quality of the Accord exceed the Camry. Reliability, MPG, and comfort are my top (heavily weighted) decision criteria. 62 MPG yesterday over 20+ miles of local driving in my new Toyota Camry SE with only 200 on the ODO indicate I’ve probably met my goals. MPG will only improve with break-in. I can’t fault someone wanting the Accord over the Camry, but I do get to retain MPG bragging rights!

I gave up years go on the accord due to lack of legroom in the front seat. They say they’ve fixed that, but being 6’5”, I don’t agree. The reviewer mentions Honda is still having trouble with fuel getting into the oil.? A major reason to avoid Honda. I’ve been driving the Toyota hybrid system for many years now and love it. I have a Camry LE and SE hybrid in the garage. The LE routinely gets over 60 MPG. No, not as sporty as the Accord sport, but the SE hybrid is. It’s far too new to speak MPG yet, taking 20K miles to break in and get real numbers, but I’m already expecting somewhere in the 50’s. I remain curious why the LE gets better mileage than the SE - probably rolling resistance as the tires and suspension is so different.
@sonicmoj12 жыл бұрын
It's because the LE has 16" tires and the SE has 17 or 18". Tire size is the difference maker.

I thought the Accord hybrid has an eCVT not a CVT. The Accord hybrid engine is used as an electric generator for the electric motor at lower city speeds. The sounds the gas engine makes at city speeds is only for powering up the electric generator power needs. You only get the electric motor's 232 ft-lbs of tq from a single gear of the electric motor around town. Not until you get to hwy speeds is when the engine can close a clutch and provide power to the wheels with only a single gear available (reason why the hybrid mpgs drop off the faster you drive compared to the camry hybrid).
@tupuhumuhumunukunukuapuaa30932 жыл бұрын
This. I got wayyyyy better gas mileage in NY/NJ vs here in CA with the same car (had it shipped over). I can accelerate confidently at highway speeds, so while it's not a Tesla in terms of quickness, it does pretty well for what it is. I hope there's a way to disable the generated engine noise, my least favorite feature of the car.
@jeffjo87322 жыл бұрын
It has an "electrically-coupled CVT," which is what your description means. And it can be used at any speed; but at low-power, highway speeds the clutch engages. There are is only "a single gear of the electric motor," so you can get all 232 lb-ft all of the time around town.

It's a good looking car but once the warranty expires you're on your own and you have no idea how expensive modern Honda engines are to fix. Oil changed at 80%, Shell regular used 80% of the time, always did warm up the car in the winter. Dealer so out of touch they recommended brake fluid replacement at 30k. I've never seen this part fail in ANY of my past cars. When asked why fuel injectors failed so early they said they see them all the time and $1600-$2500 would fix my out of warranty problem and warranty is only for 12k/12mos!
