The band is playing just as angry as Marco is singing... part of the trilogy involving the drama with Tarja, Bye Bye beautiful is for her... this one is for her husband Marcelo, who became Nightwish version of Yoko Ono to make a long story short.... the Poet and the pendulum pertains to the fallout from the fans and public all blaming Tuomas wrongly He was neither the cause of the situation, or the sole reason for Tarja's departure when they chose to let her go.

It's understandable that this will never be played live, the anger and the passion are long in the past. Everyone has moved on. But, at the same time, it is a pity because this is such a dark masterpiece. It is perfect in it's emotion. It goes to prove that you really don't want to get Tuomas angry, especially when he has Marko and the guys to back him up. This band amazes me. I don't know if there is anything that they can't do. Personally, nothing makes me happier that they have all moved on and what Marko and Tarja do together is magical. It's like that angry letter sent (or not) after a bitter breakup. Their heaviest song. Yep ,angry Nightwish. Even the way Marko sings it sounds angry. Directed at Tarja's manager/husband ,Marcelo. Musically a great song. Unlike the other 2 songs directed at the breakup, this has never been played live , and never will be. Of the other 2, you've done The Poet and the Pendulum, but haven't got to "Bye Bye Beautiful" yet. When you do get to it, suggest the remastered live version from the 2008 Exit festival, as the music video usually gets blocked in some countries, including the US and Canada. But ,watch the music video later on your own.

When listening to songs like "Sleeping Sun" or "Slow, love, slow" it is easy to forget that Nightwish is a METAL band. But they still are and have always been. I love their heavier songs like this one, "Yours is an empty hope" or "Tribal". And if you like "heavy Marco" listen to his band Tarot.

The whole thing with Tarja's firing was extremely divisive and public, that's the reason NW fans rarely like comparing any of their vocalists. It left deep scars in the band and Tarja, but with years the relations have been largely mended from cordial to actual collaboration. Glad to see no anger last for long.

I'm very happy to see that too. I just wish NW fans could reconcile. Unfortunately, there's a whole lot of comparing going on even still. I've tried to mediate long arguments in the comments about this one being 'better' than that one. Well, it is what it is.
