When the Dutch settlers arrived in the Cape in 1652, their tradition of cooking in cast-iron pots came with them. Once a symbol of their victory, the potjiekos has come a long way. Seasoned with Six Gun Grill® and perfected with So Good Potjie Mix, each dish is a celebration of success, history and victory!
Ingredients
30ml Butter
1kg Lamb Neck Chops
200g peeled Baby Carrots
1 chopped Onion
16 Baby Potatoes
250ml Water
100g Cauliflower
100g Whole Button Mushrooms
4 cubed Tomatoes
500g Mixed Dried Fruit, soaked in water for 1 hour.
100g So good Potjie Mix
500ml Water
Six Gun Grill for seasoning
Method
1. Prepare a grill for direct cooking over medium heat and fit a potjie pot.
2. Season the meat with Six-Gun Grill.
3. Heat the pot and melt the butter. Once heated Brown a few pieces of meat at a time and remove it once brown.
4. Once all the meat is browned, brown the onions until soft.
5. Return the meat and add the So good Potjie Mix stirring it through the meat. Once stirred through, add the water, cover with the lid and allow the pot to simmer for about 1 hour.
6. Layer the vegetables, cover with the lid and allow the pot to simmer for 45 Minutes. Lastly add the Mixed dried Fruit, cover with the lid and let the pot simmer for 30 minutes.
7. Serve with a side of your choice.
