The lead voice in the first verse is Alessia Cara, a Canadian pop/R&B singer. In concert, they use her tracks in the "wo-oh-oh-oh-oh", but otherwise Dany (on guitar) does all the lead vocals. Their harmonies are sublime.

Amazing to see where they started and how far they have come. I have to admit, I am not a Metallica fan, and I was sick of this song, until this second version came along. A lullaby where Alessia very sweetly puts you to bed, then Dany rouses the troops, Pau shares a little prayer, and the angel chorus comes to sing you to sleep, then Boom, the hammer drops. I think of this very much as the female version of the Sandman tale. So good. Delicate, powerful, soothing, strong, gentle, fierce-all at the same time. I love this one. GLad you took the time to do both of these. The live at Teatro is also pretty killer.

Their ages are mentioned in the bio of the video. While reacting to The Warning their ages when performing the song & the time when they composed it should be noted. As a thumbrule the last 2 digits of an year is Dany's age. Pau is 2 year's younger & Ale 5 (unless we step into December of an year which is Ale's birth month). So for 2014 they were 14, 12 & 9. FYI The Warning Experience is only complete with analysis of the lyrics in a song & its back story, if any.

In short, the 2021 version was done at the invite of Metallica for the 30th anniversary of the Black album. The instruction was turn it upside down, inside out, just don't change the lyrics. They completed the whole process in one week. Thanks.

Metallica invited Alessia Cara to participate in the Blacklist album, but the deadline for the project was about 10 days away. The connection between Alessia and The Warning came via their management, who suggested the collaboration. This all occurred during Covid restrictions, so Alessia recorded her parts in Canada while The Warning recorded in Mexico. I love the arrangement they came up with. On a short deadline they were able to produce a unique and excellent recording. And the video is terrific too. It is a success for all of them and would not have happened without Alessia Cara. At that time The Warning was still nearly unknown except for their loyal internet fans.

LOL. Well, at the time there were approximately 320,000 subscribers to their channel. Based on typical KZbin viewer patterns, only between 5% to 10% of viewers subscribe to a channel. That would be something like 3,200,000 to 6,400,000 viewers, which we know is an incorrect figure, as their original "Enter Sandman" cover had well over 22 million views, back in the 2020 time period. So, while they were not mainstream, household names, they were far from being new to the game. As I'm writing this, there are currently over 133,145,863 views for their channel and a very substantial portion of that were on the books back in 2020. 🙂 To be fair, they were not widely publicized by the mainstream media outlets, back then (several, but not a ton) and they did gain popularity through their social media prowess. A lot of that changed, once they finalized their recording contract with Lava Records / Republic Records, around the same timeframe as this cover release, which saw a lot more doors open for them.

Hola.

Very accurate. Alessia is HUGE and was the drawing card. The warning were known to Metallica, but they were truly the right bunch of trained pro musicians/composers/arrangers at the right time for the right situation…. And from what I understand this track has done far far more to launch the warning into the eyes of new fans than it has done for Alessia, who was already a house hold name in her genre. They all became friends and i believe all have a lot of mutual respect now. Lava did right by both parties with that connection!

@@mt4design2 Even though Metallica knew of The Warning they didn't invite them to participate. Alessia Cara got the call. I am not trying to boost Alessia or downgrade The Warning. It is just a fact that at that moment The Warning wasn't well known (yet) in the music industry. All artists start out that way and it takes time, effort, and a bit of luck to get noticed. I appreciate what Alessia did, because I think that 99.9% of the time things would go in a different direction.

Thank you for both videos it is best this way. Their live version is sick and I think it's the best of the 3. Look forward to your reaction of it I know it'll be awesome for you. The harmonies in the live version are next level and they use Alessia's vocals on a backing track. ⚡🔥⚡🔥⚡
