Of course I was secretly rooting for genocide to trigger at the beginning of the playtrough so he'd have to deal with the difficulty of it. But I liked him being authentic. So many other play troughs know in advance and optimize for it or stick to one style early on.

I'm not sure if Asmon would be Flowey´s worst fear or proof of his ideology. Because on one side he follows the mantra of "kill or be killed" and wins through it, but on the other he's completely immune to his taunts and destroyed him without mercy following the very same mindset Flowey was espousing. I guess you could say Flowey was prepared to face a Hero, not a Warrior.

Well, killing Flowey is what he wants. He was absolutely prepared to face someone who is a warrior. The only things Flowey wasn't prepared to face were the 2 extremes: someone who wants to kill everyone just to see what happens and someone who wants to save him in spite of what happens. He's exactly prepared for Asmongold because Asmongold is the typical gaming attitude.

The first person simply walks there, while the second person prepares in case he gets mugged or he trips and injures his leg or maybe it starts raining. It doesn't necessarily mean the second person is more simple minded but it does relay that his priorities are different from person A in accordance with his confidence to deal with any problems that may arise in front of his goals. Its kinda confusing with human intelligence and why we're different since its a very complicated topic. Keep in mind there are 2 main types of overthinking and this example only covers the type that dawns on future events. Also to clarify the choice to spare or kill Flowey isn't based on over thinking its based on morality and the opinions you have on what dictates any action on your own spectrum of morality and their consequences like in this case weighing the actions of Flowey based on the context of his circumstances to decide whether or not to kill him which is the entire point of this game and how Toby Fox managed to make such a heart pulling narrative with such a simple mechanic is beyond me.

While I do agree that a True Pacifist run offers the best ending, I don't think the argument of "no pacifist = unfinished game" is one of the reasons peoples view of the game is skewed. I see no problem in someone finishing a Neutral run and deciding to call it quits there. Let the players own curiosity lead them to a second playthrough.

You could try to play Outer Wilds if you want the similar "Wish I could play it for the first time again" type of game. It's not an RPG or a subversion of an RPG, but it's one of those games where going in knowing as little as possible is best. Just know that it's a puzzle game of sorts where knowledge is power, you could beat the game in 30 minutes but you don't know *how* since you don't know where you need to go or what you need to do. There is a computer in your ship that keeps track of everything you've seen, but I recommend keeping a list of notes next to you with all the technologies you have seen and how to use them, so you don't get stuck. No explicit quest markers or anything, you go somewhere because *you* want to, not because the game is telling you to, the game just gives you a general area to look at and says "Go here if you want, or explore somewhere else first, take your time".

genocide route has 2 very hard boss fights, but the rest is easy since you get up to 99 hp due to levels. pacifist is hard because youre locked at level 1 with 20 hp all game. but the final boss cant actually ever kill you in the pacifist ending.

He deserves to miss out, that's the point of the game. Actions have consequences, if he killed off content then he's the one to have to miss out unless he does another playtrough where he doesn't. It's what replayability is all about. If he chooses not to play the game ever again he got the experience he wanted from it and thats awesome. If he had been able to see everything despite the choices he made the choices would have no meaning.

I've seen dozens of let's plays, and I've never seen Undyne defeated during a neutral run. It's feel so much more tragic than a genocide run, because you know you're playing as a mass murderer that wants to kill everything, but on this route, you still have the capacity to kill someone even though you've already proved to be capable of sparing them.

Undertale is such an amazing game! (Personally I think) it changed the perspective of playing rpg normally. The story is amazing and all possible decisions you can make are written well thoughtfully. All you actions you make during your playthough have consequences, eg. story-wise when Undyne judging you for killing other monsters, or gameplay-wise when gaining "EXP" & increasing your "LOVE" effects the story and how you will progress, especially the ending. Now there is reason why there is "EXP" and some kind of level system ("LOVE") and if you will randomly kill other monsters. Sadly your "last decision" didn't trigger a cutscene which would tell you to try playing the game differently. It's possible to beat the game without killing any monsters & spare every enemy you encounter. Hopefully you will do the "Pacifist Run" some day! Actually he got only killed 12 out of the 20 or 19 for you see you can kill only 19 monsters in ruins napstablook doesn't count toriel will act as if your doing a neutrual run and you don't insta kill her but once you kill her the games oh he killed 20/20 and the game triggers the flowey geno dialouge he wasn't that close however due to the fact there is a step counter for each encounter and it gets larger the less enemies left and it also depends on thre room certain rooms have lower/higher step counters

also fun fact there is a sort of grace period that makes you have to walk alot more steps after each encounter you can cancell out this grace period by leaving the room your in and go back in it.

Well, playing only 1/3 and calling it an end is fair. He played the game, grasped it's quality and reached satisfying ending. Only downside is that he didn't actually grasped why people like this game because people like it for the rest 2/3 of game, not 1/3.

You don’t have to, but pacifist is crazy. It unlocks a whole new area, you learn SO SO much more. It hits so different. Genocide is also grueling, but it is very boring tbh. You become so powerful and bloodthirsty that you kill everyone in one bit after a while, except for two which are insanely hard. You essentially break the game and your future pacifist and neutral runs have irreversible changes after genocide because you have to sell your soul, or your control, to reset after genocide.

Neutral is the easiest, but it's also what was supposed to be everyone's starter point. I like that he just went in blind and did exactly what he wanted. Genocide has the easiest begining, but has 2 choking points that may be a challenge.
