So I found the source of the Pajero oil leak...

Turns out that almost ten years and 80,000km ago a "mechanic" who replaced the timing belt and cam oil seals pushed the cam seals so far into the heads that they pissed oil from day one.
And the previous owner tried to tell me that the car had no oil leaks. Ah, honesty. Where did it go, eh?

Finally I understand why my NM had a leak for several years..had my mechanic chase a bunch of problems and then finally changed the cam seals....problem fixed...not a drop of oil since and it's been over 2.5 years. I think k my seals had vulcanised.

Yeah probably. NM is the 6G75 but I suspect it's an almost identical cam design to the 6G74 as it's still single cam, 24 valve.

My bloody mechanic didn't replace those seals when he did that timing belt replacement and the next day it had major oil leaks, 1 litre all over the floor.

Are you 100% sure that all that oil in the engine block was due to that oil leak or did you have another one on the valve cover? I'm asking you because I have the same amount of oil in the engine block and I don't know if it's just what you repaired or if it's something else, I would like to know if that is the solution to all that oil mess since I have it exactly the same. Hi sorry for the delay. I'm not getting notifications for comments on this channel. There were some small valve cover leaks but the large leak was definitely the cam seals.

Those seals are factory , that’s how they are supposed to sit . They are just old seals that have never been replaced , most people do not even replace those seals when doing timing belts as it requires for most a lot of effort to remove the camshafts

I have had my seals so repeatedly replaced for my pajero to such an extent that am tired. I think that's my mechanic has been pushing the seals too far.

Hey, what did you use to seat the oil seal? If a socket, what size? I’m looking to do the same myself and want to be sure I do it right the first time.

I seem to recall using the old cam seal, flipped around and just tapped with a soft face hammer/dead blow hammer. You can also use a large socket (assuming it's the same size as the seal).
