This video was hell to make, for several reasons. From "wtf footage do I use" to it refusing to render for three days to "aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaanxiety!", I wasn't really looking forward to it. But I wanted to clear the air so people stop guessing and speculating. I can't overemphasize how much I respect Matt and his team, so please do not take this video as a call to action to bother any of them. Things happen, people split because things aren't working anymore, it's the way of the world. So just sit back and enjoy this story while I tell it to you, and leave it at that? Alright?

Apparently there are some people who are misunderstanding the "Napkin math" portion. I definitely wasn't saying that we were working 10 hour days, 365 days a year, with no breaks, just that that's how many DAYS of editing there were in total, if you *did* put the days back to back. I promise you, nobody can work that hard without a mental breakdown. Sorry if that was confusing for folk!

Dear Austin, Hiiiiiiiiiii, it's me, a random person on the internet! I'm really sad to see you go! But, I'm glad you are holding onto that light, I watched, loved, and anticipated EVERY single episode you made. You sparked a now unhealthy obsession for physics inside me, that set me on my path to studying it in college. I can't thank you enough for all the mind blowing math and wonder that you produced over the years, and it's all because I wanted to know how my Pokemon evolving will kill me, like the true Pokemon fan I was and still am. I'm glad that my friends sent me this so I know where to find your content, and I have LOT to catch up on. This isn't goodbye, it's a new begging. Thank you, Austin. Sincerely, The Internet

Man, this video hits home. My shows on Game Theory dipped in views in no small part to the algorithm, I went through pits of depression because of a lack of therapy and medication plus that view dip, my content suffered more because I lost my drive and inspiration, voluntarily left the channel, and my content has been delisted on the channel. Austin, your content was great and I'm glad you have the opportunity to upload your content again so that people can still see it. Much like Game Theory proper, it encouraged people to fall in love with math and science. You were a pleasure to meet when we did the Theorist trip in Vegas and I'm really glad that your mental health is improving and you've found your spark to create again. It's funny, I've seen the name ShoddyCast around the internet, but I never got around to watching your content here or even knew it was you who made it! I just thought you were a cool dude and if the stuff here is even half as good as The Science, I'm going to have a lot of fun binging through your backlog. 😃

Them delisting it seems unnecessarily petty......if they don't want them anymore then they should pass them over to you. Makes no sense to just not have the available for anyone anymore just because they aren't/shouldn't be getting the revenue from it.
@WhatEvenIsThissss
@WhatEvenIsThissss Жыл бұрын
@@SoManyRandomRamblings I think it's because deleting videos takes the views and engagement from your channel, so it negatively affects it. I can see why you'd think it's petty, but I think it's a decently neutral solution because they stop profiting from a former employee's work, but they also don't have to take a hit in their numbers. Keeping them there might also invite unnecessary controversy. Also, they're being allowed to reupload their videos, so I think it's an acceptable solution 😳

Another Perspective: of all the partner shows that Game Theory hosted, yours persisted the longest. Even as the KZbin algorithm disincentivized your content year after year, your show persisted. That’s because you were making good content that we enjoyed. You did a damn good job. @@3nowStorm To be fair to MatPat, he *did* try to take a break from FNAF content. People just kept nagging about it because they wanted him to make the clusterfuck it turned into. The fact that FNAF turned into a self-contradictory mess of absurd numbers of retcons- both blatantly admitted, and ones that were slid in with no purpose other than causing confusion- because the creators (first Cawthorn alone, then the greater scope) would get offended by both the fan base *correctly* guessing things before they were revealed, and because they DIDN'T guess correctly. Or just making the timeline deliberately vague and messed up because it was the lazy way to create a 'mystery,' and sounded better than admitting, "Oh yeah, the timeline doesn't make sense because we didn't give enough fucks to make it make sense." MatPat was pretty fed up with FNAF from around the time that Cawthorn admitted that he saw the relationship with Game Theorists as being "adversarial at times." Seriously, in the theories from the last few years, you can hear how sick he is of FNAF retconning stuff and being 'deliberately' vague as a thinly veiled excuse for crappy writing. Plus the way that he kept delaying videos for FNAF- you can only delay videos for months at a time a few times before it's an obvious sign of burnout on the subject... but MatPat really doesn't like to disappoint the viewers. And since the channel is technically a corporation, he also literally can't afford to.

I literally searched for the "makes no goddamned sense!!!" videos with "Its ME! Auuuustiiiiiin!" in my head a while back....With the distaste I already had for GTFTweT, this just kind of sets the shades of 🤮 I had for MP and his ilk (I really dont like those types of people.....even austin gets on my nerves sometimes. But he makes good content, even I may not agree with a specific point or interpretation, its still entertaining. MP is just......🤢. IMHO, of course. Others can feel how they like, thats just how I feel. Your mileage may, could, would, and should very). Also Austin, boopy. Cringe is only relevant if you value the opinions of others above your own. Screw the zeitgeist, its toxic in this modern age. If you want to make a tetris video because you fould a neat aspect of it, then make a tetris video because you found a neat aspect of it. The GT crowd are lulcatz, you cannot herd them and they're more fickle than literally any cat ever. Their california no is the equivalent of shitting in a slipper. Dont look to them for die hardness, they're just nerd culture cosplayers wasting STEM funding on pats of the back while only paying attention enough to the science to remember a few buzzwords they toss around to feel smart (usually while thinking themselves special for not addressing the trauma left over from school and believing 'math is hard' and 'they're bad at it' and putting zero effort into learning some basic steps that become obvious with the slightest application of recreational maths...of course thats not what the rest of the cool people do so why should they risk being ostracized by doing something the group isnt? See? lulcat posers, all of em....). I wanted to see your videos, man. And while I think your views still needs some finessing (again, IMHO, my opinions are no more valid than anyone elses, especially not above your own, the first person responsible for ourselves is ourselves), there is nothing wrong with recognizing your brain isnt in a good head space. Just remember one thing, regardless of anything else, you CAN do it. I believe in you. We dont have to agree, thats called being human. But I do believe you CAN do it.

Congrats on seeing a therapist. I've been to a bunch of therapists and here's something that I wish people had told me. It is: some therapists are just bad, and some therapists are good but just not right for you. But some therapists are good and are right for you and that's awesome. So if you feel you're not making progress or if you feel that a given therapist isn't right for you, it's entirely acceptable to just find another one.

I honestly think I really needed to hear this. Today, I went to a friend's funeral. We fell out of contact after a while because our personalities were just so different - she was an extrovert while im an introvert. I like staying in my comfort zone, she pushed herself to do all sorts of things - dance, play water polo, travel, party, etc. I was struck by how different our lives are. How the highlights of her days, her weeks, are social events and gatherings with friends. How mine tended to be catching up on shows I've already watched and books I've already read. I don't think I'll be making major differences in my life, but I've always wanted to try some form of martial arts. I really want to animate more. I keep putting it off because 'oh I'll get around to it eventually' but if I keep thinking like that I'll never get there. For her, and because of this, I think I'll do the things I want. For me! I want to do more, be more. Don't waste your time on earth. It's so short, so unpredictable and it goes by so so fast. Good luck with your future, Austin! You'll be missed on Theory

Austin reignited “NO, you are curious, Try Anyway, and who cares it’s taken you longer.” Alas, I cannot do math and science classes, afterall, due to chronic auto immune inflammation in my hands. It’s just…too much writing for me to do safely, even now on an auto immune medication going on 5.5 months now. BUT, I’ll always be grateful for that, and Austin’s Videos (+ 8bitmusictheory and OSP) still helped reignite being willing to just TRY again. …so now I’ll be finishing out an associates in music, then probably transferring to a university to finish out a bachelor’s instead. And who knows-if my physical health can continue to stabilize or even improve? I may try auditing (vs taking-prolly still too much writing For Credits, fuuuuck flareups…) math and science classes. If you are having negative symptoms from them that are lowering your quality of life in a sizeable amount, do not just soldier on with them when there are probably better options out there. Also, if you ever go off of the meds, please please please please talk to your doctor first and definitely don't go cold turkey. I LOVED THE SCIENCE! The mock-letter format is so fantastic, and I definitely got excited when your episodes showed up. I'm glad I came across your channel, I should've known you had your own! Subscribed!

I think Austin kept the science of game theory had, but lost. Now that I think about it.... Austin leaving might have been why I stopped watching the channel altogether.

I really love your analogies and honesty regarding mental health. As someone who also has struggled and been on the rollercoaster of medicated vs. not medicated, it is nice hearing that I am not alone. 🧡🧡🧡

Coming back to this to say that it's a true loss. I loved your science videos, i loved the guests on the theory channels, they felt more "genuine" than they've felt over the past... couple of years. Please upload them here so I can watch them! I hate that they delisted them though, i'm a hoarder and i hate when content is deleted. I want everything to be archived!!

I'm so glad I found this theory, despite all the depressing information. While I love watching matpat, you were a dose of high energy and pure science that I needed. Sometimes I just wanted to learn not theorize and you were the best person to look at for that content. And while I was seeing all the changes happening on the theory channels, I always wondered "where is austin"? I assumed you had stopped making videos and just help on research for theories or something like that. While this video was sad in alot of ways it helped me find you again! Without a doubt, you are one of my favorite creators and I always wished for more content which I know have. Please continue looking the motivation to make videos. It help me and plenty others find the sun aswell.

I didn't know this channel existed until this video showed up in my recommended and I'm glad it did. You were my favorite part of game theory when you were on it and it reminded me of the more classic game theory of the more math and science side of things instead of "lore". I'm excited to see where things go for you!

I am so happy to hear you're feeling better. I've always appreciated your unfiltered discussion about depression and struggles with motivation creatively. I hope your family and child are still doing healthy and happy as well. I've always waited for and looked for your videos on Mat's channel, more than his, and I'm embarrassed to not know you had your own channel before now. Just know that I have always appreciated you, your math, your way of explaining hard science-y things.

I started watching shoddycast exclusively because I loved your game theory videos and couldnt get enough of them so when I heard you had a main channel I came running. Bethesda content is right up my alley to so a match made in heaven. I was really said 3-4 years ago when you disappeared and thought that it had been for good. I just found out you came back and I'm incredibly happy :) Your work is great Austin, you can be proud. Take some time off whenever you need it, mental health is no joke. Best of luck!

I could watch these videos of you just talking for hours. You have such a way with words, listening to you feels incredibly natural and relaxing, as if I'm sitting with a friend. From one depressed person to the other, you're doing great. I hope you'll get better.

I "found" you for the first time in the first the science video on The Game Theorists but I instantly found and watched all of the old science videos. It really scratched an itch in my brain and honestly your videos was my favourite part of the channel. I'm just happy you feel better. As someone who has always struggled I'm really happy to hear you feel better.

I was literally crying depressed about feeling trapped living where I do. This gave me some much needed hope and it came from a creator who I’ve always respected so much, as lover of science and as an advocate for people being honest about their mental health; which you always have been. Thank you and remember to have a good day ❤

So. I was feeling that way too. to the point i literally packed up a few things and left in my minivan. I spent 2 months living in a Dennys Parking lot. Because I had no actual working skills, I made bracelets and sold them to other customers and staff there. then I started doing the flea market, then to craft shows. It's been 18 months since I walked away from pure terror and absolute control... And now I own my own home and am running my own business that I built up from literally nothing but a handful of beads. Its the scariest and yet most fulfilling thing Ive ever done aside from have my kids. You never know where that first step of change will lead you! its always one day at a time. and if that is too much, one hour, or one minute and sometimes, just this second then the next.

That match metaphor brought me to tears, something not done in many months. The feeling it gives me feels like a small insight into the place I once was too, somewhere I had forgotten. Just as I had forgotten it, I hope you too can see it only as a memory, some day.

dude. i cannot express how much this video hits. last october i lost several close friends of mine, and the feelings your describing are the exact words that i needed to describe what i’ve felt recently. you’ve always been the part of game theory that i liked most: your subnautica video still sticks with me, cuz i remember seeing a comment pointing out how they just realized that when it’s you who’s voicing the video, then the text is blue, and i immediately went to watch every single game theory video with blue text i could find after that. finding your channel now is exactly what i needed, and i really hope you’re able to make it on this platform, cuz i seriously miss your content.

While it was a good description, it felt a bit wordy to me. Either you have depression and don't need the explanation, or you don't care about it past the point of, "This person's productivity reduced due to feeling terrible mentally."

I liked the metaphor too, as someone who’s adhd and trauma-stress feels Exactly like that (but can’t safely take a medication for it; I’m sensitive to serotonin despite not having bipolar to fuck up my brain chemistry further, and they don’t let people check themselves into in-patient psych clinics where I live to do it safely vs struggling with frikkin serotonin syndrome and terrified I’d hurt myself from the symptoms or otherwise have my life put at risk. Lucky me~) Anyway. Who frikkin CARES if it’s “too wordy,” it’s damn cathartic.
