I know this couldn't have been an easy decision, or easy to carry out, but ultimately I think you'll be happier. My perception was that, in some way, your collection started to feel like a burden to you. Like something left to be done rather than just something to be enjoyed, because of the videos you wanted to make. Just my take-away anyway, from the off-and-on conversations we've had about it over the years. I hope the coming years are the happiest in your life. Hell, I know they'll be. Cheers, man! Thank you for all the entertainment you've provided us.

Been enjoying your excellent and informative content for years, and so happy you were able to make everything you did and share it all with the world! The community will always have your videos as resources and time capsules to help celebrate our hobby for years to come. And you don't owe anyone an explanation for whatever it is you have to do to take care of your own life, but I'm sure all of your fans appreciate this video nonetheless. Congratulations on the new baby, good luck in all of your pursuits, and thank you again for everything you've done for the retro hardware scene!

I’m 51 and a 5 time dad. I’ve been married over 27 years as well. Family always comes first if you want to really enjoy life. Your priorities change as life continues, and I applaud you for adjusting your time and dedication to hobbies and interests to ensure what’s most important comes first in your life.

You don't have to justify why you sell it. Family comes first. Later if you decide to find a similar road you already know the path . The community has change since 10-15 years ago.

I had a dream once. That when I got established and became a millionaire I'd buy the big house and have a "west wing" with a few rooms to turn into my Retro PC Heaven. This never happened. The truth is, despite me being lucky enough to collect such an awesome collection over the years, most of it has been sat there gathering dust and crying softly to itself. I took the plunge a few years back and sold around a 1/3rd of it all. Like you, ensuring to keep those few absolute treasures that are most dear to me. The only reason I stopped selling was that I landed a new job which, along with the kids, took all my time.

Totally understand. I've been through the same steps, two young kids, new house, job requiring time, pandemics. I wanted free time for me (computer stuff, or else) so i started reducing my sleep time to 4 or 5 hours on a regular basis. I went through weeks were i needed to sleep, but I had to test hardware i just received to validate online transactions. And I'm not even a content creator. I expanded my collection far beyond what I initially planned and I'm thinking about stopping expanding it. Prices are now crazy and I found myself paying more and more for cards that were really cheap a few years ago. 2000-2010 era used to be cheap and not sought after. I remember refusing 100-ish€ deals on Fury Maxx. Now that I want one, they're at 400-1000€. I'm not going to pay that much. Better pay that amount for quality family time. I still need time for me. Outside (pandemic work from home for 2+ years got me crazy). I started flight lessons. So i will definitely have to make choices. You're totally right. Family and free time comes first. And you definitely don't need every single GPU to enjoy retro stuff. Simple is sometimes better. I wish you all the best. Alex

Thanks man, I mean collecting is weird, Im also into golf too but i dont know if ill even start going, I would want to actually hit the ball first I have been in a similar situation recently, A lot of my stuff i just didnt have time for, The majority was game collecting, but weirdly enough i have recently got a switch for ring fit, and i have a plan on collecting just for that system, Likely going to get rid of most my valuable PS2 games... Probably sega saturn too, I love them, But the reality is i dont have the time, and i prefer emulation for the few titles i care about. With collecting in general, Depending what we get into, Its not the fact that most collectors buy stuff as an investment, Its more that the things that you are into, other people finally have the time and money to spend on such luxuries, and with more communities actively looking for old stuff for their own means, people are wiling to pay a higher price for things, regardless if its ethical or not, It has stated value for some reason to someone, At the end of the day museums will pay silly amounts for what they deem a historical object anyway. And i mean it does actually take time and effort getting niche items, so work has still been done by someone wherever these items go. Its always a bit sad when you know its the right time to let it go, but its also a great feeling when it lets you progress with your future. Im gonna at least tally my stuff up and see where that will get me, I dont have a need to get rid of my old stuff, but if i know i can put that into something else i enjoy ill be happy.

trade one expensive hobby for another, the math dont check out chief, you said you got 2 kids now and you dont have time to mess with old tech, but you can stay home while messing with all that old cool stuff, and you trade it off for golfing where you need to leave ur house and ur kids. not trying to be a dick but the math dont check out chief.

Congratulations, you've won stupidest comment every posted on my channel. You're clueless mate. You should spend the time you waste here doing something useful with your life. Your clearly not happy.

@@CuttingEdgeRetro dude, i was literally commenting on what you said in the video. You stated that you no longer have the time and or money because you have two kids that you need to take care of now, so ur downsizing ur hardware to get some cash back to take care of the kids, then you state that you are going to get back into golfing, which isnt cheap and requires you to not supervise youre kids because duh you gotta leave the house to go golfing. make sense??
