I actually do kind of like the idea of it. It rewards you for pursuing a certain path and, or whatever it's based on. Maybe if it were rebranded to bonuses for the Civ and not not the leader it would be better. A lot of gripes with this game seem to be stemmed in issues that would be fixed if the leaders and civs just swapped roles in the game. Like the leaders changed with age and the civs remained permanent.

One of my favorite systems from civ 6 was the loyalty system, simply for the fact that it heavily discouraged forward settling. It wasn't perfect and was pretty wonky sometimes, but it pretty much made aggressive forward settling impossible. If you want to do that you either had to a: make sure it was surrounded by friendly cities first so the enemy's loyalty pressure is effectively countered by your own (which in this case, it's not even that much of a forward settle, since it's so close to your empire by that point)or b: sink a bunch of money and resources into the city to stave off the pressure until it's big and loyal on it's own. Either way, you couldn't just get away with settling one city on the opposite side of the continent right next to an enemy capital without handing the enemy a free city. It seemed like the defection system in this video is the successor to that, but the fact that it's limited to the end of the age and looks randomized is a major downgrade in my opinion.

It seems clear that the developers were trying to make Civilization play closer to how history actually works, so now war seems to be the only tool available to solve territorial disputes. There is merit to that approach, but it also seems like every play through will be more or less the same as there are more limited strategies for success.

Yeah, CIV7 Is gonna be a pass for me. This looks like an Alpha build and this is supposed to release in a month? This looks worse than VIC3 did on launch and that is an accomplishment, lets just list some missing/broken features: - Minimap doesn't work, Notice how the cities don't have their borders defined? - You can't return cities after a war, this has been a feature since Civ4 atleast, no clue why this wouldn't be a given. - Tech and Civic research screens are unreadable, which one is the selected tech? Why can you not que up research? - Why the **** do I have to play to unlock content? I get gating content to not overwhelm the player, but since when has a core tenet of the civ series been meta-progression? I'm not going to comment on the lack of balance overall, that's par for the course with modern CIV, afterall, CIV6's motto was pretty much "if everything is broken, then nothing is broken." I get that Quarbit might not be allowed to call attention to these issues as part of the early content negotiation, but this is just not the quality that is expected of Civilization, this is a joke for a game that's been in development for half a decade.

Civ 7 looks beautiful for me, but I absolutly hate these Humankind mechanics. I don't want my Catherine II or Augustus lo lead Egypt or China. I want them to lead their own original countries, Rome and Russia. And I don't want to change my civs. The whole point of Civ games was building your only nation throught ages, not to switch it fot another one...
@elpito9326

Honestly, I'd like the Civilization change system if there was like a natural progression. China has it, for example, you can start as the Han, then go to the Ming and end with the Qing. But I don't want to start as Ibn Battuta of the Aksumites, then become Arab and end up as an Indian... That's just foul

@@elpito9326 Yes, but they were too busy copying Humankind... As you said, fir Civ7, they schould have been "pick a set of civ" or even "pick a civ, and change the leader each era" with a leader of this civ (i mean, beginning with cleopatra, then salladin, then nasser for egypt for instance)

@elpito9326 yes! Exactly! China has that way, since it's the only civilisation that lasted from ancient times to modern! But what about Rome? What about the US? Surely, it's a game of compromises, where we have to admit lots of inaccuracies. It's not possible to make a natural progression for each and every civ. And yet, I think that the system from Civ 5/6 was better
@nbewarwe
@nbewarwe 2 сағат бұрын
@ I heard from the devs that they went with civ switching for balancing reasons. It's much easier to balance civs limited to one age than to try to balance them across all of them. While I do think the mechanic has some merit to it, I do agree with you, it might've been more accepted by players if it were swapped to changing leaders instead. Because leaders aren't timeless. They die, and even their legacies fade, but their impact is still enough to get them next leader going, or whatever motivational shlock you can get from that.

This looks really bad. I buy Civ because I want to play Civ. While it's neat that humankind added new things, and some other games have tried different directions this doesnt feel like Civ it feels like something totally different and if I want different I can just buy something else. This basically means we wont have another civ game for a decade.

34:57 Is it possible you needed to choose to keep the city and then choose to give it back to Ibn in a diplomatic interaction? This game seems to be a goodie bag of ideas with a mixed time of work. Less like a cohesive thought out process and more like a sectional stage based idea that sacrifices the flow for the sake of new ideas and mechanics. Just watching it bored me becuase nothing added up and felt like a setback from my perspective watching this video. I doubt that the gameplay mechanisms responsible will change drastically from this version in the final release but I can hope it does

The reason you’re technology and civics restarted is because you didn’t choose the science or culture golden age, those make your science and culture buildings in antiquity ageless, keeping your lead. If you wanted to blitz with science or culture you gotta play a science or culture Civ. Although, the AI forward settling thing is BS because we already had a solution to that in the Civ 6 loyalty system. I think I’ll like this game because I’m actually a fan of the ages system but unfortunately they still really suck at making good UI. They really should just pay modders to make it for them lol because they consistently do a better job than vanilla.
@Quarbit
@Quarbit 6 сағат бұрын
For sure, but what I meant is that you and the AI are back to parity in terms of tech, not point generation. So if you do really well in the first age and complete all the techs but the AI is missing like 4 or 5 of them, that disparity is erased upon reaching the next age, since now everyone starts with no tech researched
@PogodaPanda0118
@PogodaPanda0118 6 сағат бұрын
@ That’s fair, I think future tech/civic is supposed to fix that by giving you a bonus later for completing the tech/civic tree but it’s clearly not doing that so they should fix it. However it seems like it’s intentional from dev streams that everyone is on an even playing field after an age transition so they might not budge on it :/ tbh I’m not sure how you could fix it without causing the same problem Ages were supposed to solve: the game snowballing into a boring victory lap in the end game after doing well in the first eras.

Lot of things look cool and interesting, but I can't believe they brought back allowing forward settlements. That was always probably the stupidest part of the pre Civ 6 games. Historically it's not like every area not in an official empire was just empty land. There were people there already who tended to be linked with the closest political power.

To say one positive about the game, I do think the building system is cool. The placement and adjacencies look right out of civ 6 but expanded upon. Rather than just keeping it to a few districts, all buildings now need to have careful placements to be thought about. Hopefully they can keep this system and expand upon it in a future title. It seems like a good direction for Civ's infrastructure mechanics. Also the resource system looks really good. The fact that you can not only assign them to cities but they each give a unique bonus makes them far more individually important rather than all of them being generic luxuries or strategics. Hope this gets kept down the line too.
