​@@jamescraig5393 tin is an alternative to copper, worlds generate with 4 early game ores tiers, and each tier has 2 possible ores that will generate upon making a world. Tier 1, Copper or Tin ore Tier 2, Iron or Lead ore Tier 3, Silver or Tungsten ore Tier 4, Gold or Platinum ore It's one or the other for each tier, for example: you can get a world with copper, lead, silver and platinum. Or tin, lead, silver and gold. Each tier is for the most part equal in power, with slight differences.

You did very well for a Terraria "noob" you can refer to this message if needed. I know the start of Terraria can be very overwhelming or frustrating so I'm going to go in to as much detail as I can without going it to hopefully any spoilers, though it might be hard at times since trying to differentiate between what is essential and what is not for beginners, because I have played Terraria a lot. (9000+ hours). Here's some basic things: -all tools have a specific function, an "axe" can mostly only cut down trees, a "hammer" is used to break background walls and a "pickaxe" is used to destroy mostly everything else. -you can identify what a tool does by looking at it's tooltip by hovering over in your inventory, it will tell you what power it has, like "axe power", "pickaxe power" and "hammer power". Some tools can even have multiple different powers. -platforms are none solid blocks that you can jump and drop through using "space" and "s" keys. -the hammer icon in your crafting menu just shows you everything you can make at the moment, so you won't need to scroll so much. Just click the icon and click your chosen item and it will take you to it. -mining is most efficient if you dig straight down, because Terraria is 2D you can see below you if you have a light source with you. If you use platforms you can jump up and down the tunnel without worrying about fall damage. -ores in the early game have 4 basic tiers: copper/tin, iron/lead, silver/tungsten and gold/platinum. Every Terraria world generates with 1 of 2 possible options for each of the 4 basic ores, like you got "tin" instead of "copper". -inventory management is pretty complex, you have 4 rows of 10 slots plus 10 slots on your hotbar, additional you have "armor" slots for the armor you want to use, "vanity" slots next to armor slots to customize your character (everything in vanity is purely visual and DOES NOT impact your stats) and "dye" slots to customize the color of your armor. -armor works simply by equipping it. Armor has a "set bonus", which you get if you have a full set of armor. For example your wooden armor gives you an extra 1 point of defence, because you have all 3 pieces equipped at the same time. (Different armor sets have different set bonuses). Basic crafting: -you only have to stand next to the appropriate crafting station to craft, like a "workbench" for basic crafting mostly using wood as the main material, a "furnace" to smelt/craft ores in to bars and and a few other recipes and an "anvil" to use the bars crafted previously to make upgrades. -there are tens of different crafting station you might use during a playthrough, though only a handful are required for progression. Accessories: -accessories are items that can be found in the world, dropped by enemies or sometimes crafted. -accessories can simply increase your stats or do something more unique, like enable fight, set your attacks on fire, let you dash or give you the ability to swim. (Btw your best bet for crossing large bodies of water it to make a simple bridge out of platforms or blocks). What are NPCs and how to get them: -Joe is the guide npc that will tell you what you can craft with any material you give him, he spawns in every world at the start, you can get many other ones by building suitable housing and meeting the requirements for them to move it. -an NPC houses needs to be at least "60 blocks" in size including the outlining blocks the house in made out of, it needs a "table/workbench" and a "chair" and at least 1 light source like a torch. -your NPCs can die but thay will respawn as long as there is a suitable housing. You can talk to NPCs by left clicking them and clicking on an option, the guide will tell you what you can craft if you click the "Crafting" option when taking to him, after clicking it an empty slot will appear next to your crafting menu, if you put any item that has the "material" tag on it in that slot you can see everything you can craft with it. It will show what materials you'll need, how may of them you'll need and what crafting station you need to stand next to to craft it. Try giving "Joe" your "copper axe" or your :copper shortsword" -you don't really need to worry about the requirements for NPCs, because you'll usually meet them while just playing the game and progressing your world. Fishing: -for fishing you need to get a "fishing pole/rod: and "bait". You can ether craft a fishing rod or find one and to get bait you will need to catch stuff like worms or grasshoppers. (most passive bugs/insects can be used as bait). -you can catch critters with a bugnet purchased from the merchant npc. I-it is recommend that you use a pond/lake for fishing, the bigger the better. -you can get most basic materials like ores from fishing, if you for some reason don't want to mine. (I highly recommend you mine, it generally faster). I sincerely hope you enjoy Terraria as much as possible, and don't be afraid of going to the Terraria wiki to look up stuff you might (probably will) need it.

Wow I'm impressed to say the least. It's a very comprehensive beginners guide that very well encompasses all the basics **have to know** stuff in an easy to understand manner. I think you did very well. I'm not very good at the game but your message kinda helped me because i was missing some of the essential information that's very hard to find with a quick google search

I kind of wanted to mention, The Hunger mechanic, was only added into a few special seed types, when they did a Crossover with "Don't Starve." So it's a hooked on Status mechanic that doesn't apply to most games. Though food does give buffs too in a normal game. Terraria generally starts almost like Minecraft did too, with a Barebones system at first. Then the whole thing gradually evolved With things like Sloped blocks, begin able to use shift for Drawing out tools and torches. Control button to switch in a semi automatic mode for digging and building. As well as Content that started from Super basic, to Adding in Enemies, bosses, and the now immense Crafting library. NPCs were also a piece that took a while to get implemented too, starting from the Guide, Like Joe there, who's meant to teach you the ropes and teach your "Potential" Recipes.

Okay, since nobody talks about the full usefulness of the guide I will. The guide is an NPC that always spawns in your world at the very beginning. He is armed with a wooden bow and arrows, which get better as you go through the games progression. He can help you find what an item can craft if you click on crafting and put the item into the empty slot near the crafting area. He can give you advice on things to do, and how to obtain or enable certain things, such as NPC requirements, or life crystals, which can be used to increase HP to a maximum of 400 or 20 hearts. He is also extremely important to have alive later in the game.

Hey, Joe the guide is a villager that will move in if you have a house and if you right click on him, he will allow you to put an item in and find what that item can make. Also, if you go into controls, there will be some very useful ones, such as smart cursor which will help mining a lot. another thing is that tin is the same as copper.

some terraria tips you may or may not have heard in this comments section already: - the best way to find a cave is to travel the overworld, hills with tunnels downward generate slightly outside of spawn - digging down is honestly fine, even before you get ways to get back to spawn dying doesn't have very many consequences (you only lose a fraction of your money) - there are multiple "tiers" of ore, there are two types per tier which have essentially equivalent levels of usefulness. the world picks a random ore from each tier to generate, so for example copper and tin are on the same tier and your world happened to generate tin instead of copper. all equivalent ores can be used interchangeably - while platforms work, it's generally more efficient to just use regular solid blocks for everything solid in an npc house. speaking of npcs you can talk to your guide with the normal interact button (right click by default) and he can give you some useful information and can tell you crafting recipes good luck and happy playing! it's nice to see a completely new person playing terraria, brings back a lot of memories

In your inventory next to the green row for your armor and accessories you have a row for cosmetic items. You can use armor or items that only change appearance or accessories that change appearance in that row of slots. even more left right next to it you can put dye to color you outfit once you have the ability to obtain dyes. There is also a slot for pets, light pets, minecart mounts, mounts and grapling hooks wich can also be dyed. (Pets are purely cosmetic. Use summoning items for functional pets.) If you wanna beat the first boss in the game you should obtain a suspicious looking eye by looting chests or obtaining 6 lenses from demon eyes. You should build rows of platforms in jump distance with a campfire in the middle to gain more mobility from the platforms and health regen from the fire during boss battles (in general with any boss unless you have items later in the game that make doing that unnecessary). For the boss you should fight third you need to find and old cursed man in the dungeon entrance of you world and select curse when talking to him. But if you enter the dungeon before defeating the boss you will be immediately killed by the dungeon guardian wich has like 9999 defence and 9999 attack. All 3 first bosses and the mechanical bosses can only be summoned during the night and will disappear during the day just how zombies run out of your screen during the day. You can also get more regeneration effects from honey and an item crafted with life crystals later in the game. You can use life crystals found in caves to increase your maximum hp by 20 each until you cap at 400. after that you can find another item similar to heart crystals in the jungle to increase your max health 5 each to a max of 500. Beware people actually build megabuilds like in Minecraft in this game.

Digging straight down is the opposite of what it is in Minecraft. It’s advantageous. Someone else explained that there are multiple ore tiers and that there is two for each of wich one gets picked for each world. But there is also two bad biomes that could spawn in you world where only one of them will that will spread through your world the more you play or stay afk in your world. They have stronger enemies and one of the 3 first boss in the game. (4 bosses if you count the fact that there is one for each biome even though only one of them spawns but they give you the same amount of progress.) That was the lowest option when you created a new world. Also look at the control settings just to see what kind of things you can do by pressing different buttons. When it comes to ingame progress the best things you can do are building a base, mining, exploring in both directions until the world limit and fighting the first 3 bosses. Your world has the corruption biome as the biome that will corrupt your world (wich I could tell by the loading screen when generating the world) wich means if you wanna fight the second easiest boss you gotta look out for a purple biome that has many eaters of souls and then go there underground in caves and blow up your way to 3 individual purple glowing orbs using bombs and destroy them with a hammer to summon the eater of worlds. (Hammers can be used to break background walls, chisel blocks into shapes like ramps and other things and break some naturally generated objects that will help you progress.) Or you could craft an item to summon the eater of worlds using the items dropped by eaters of souls and and item crafted by vile mushrooms wich is the mushroom in that biom. And yes furnaces don’t work like in Minecraft but like just another workbench but with different recipes. I am posting multiple comments since longer ones get deleted. I have a lot of experience with writing long comments only to have them automatically be removed after a few seconds without a warning.

You can make a proper npc house by building a box out of solid blocks that is 6 blocks tall and 10 wide (or bigger). You also need to add at least one door or platforms in the floor or ceiling. Platforms are essentially platforms that can be jumped through or fallen through when holding down. The pinky (slime) you saw is a rare stronger slime that drops different gel than normal slimes. I forgor what it does. Joe the guide can help you by pressing help on the interaction menu with him to find out on what to do and he can tell you how to craft stuff by pressing crafting. Or right I was talking about how to build npc housing… You need one chair or toilet. (Yes this game has toilets.) One crafting station. (I don’t think every crafting station works. The furnace counts as a crafting station. Every crafting station works the same but every crafting station either gives you different crafting recipes or adds to the previous version of the crafting station. For example on a hellforge you can craft everything you can craft with a furnace plus new things.) Then you also need a torch and that’s it. Have I mentioned that you need walls? (Walls prevent mob spawning instead of light sources.) You can check if the housing is suitable in your inventory on the housing icon > question mark icon. More NPCs will move in if you have more empty houses and meet the indivdual requirements for the NPCs. The guide will tell you some of them. Digging straight down isn’t a problem. You can see lava since it’s a 2d game and fall damage isn’t a big problem. And besides you only loose half of your money on a classic difficulty character. (On hard you loose items and on hardcore you die for good but only your character, not the world. Jorney is basically creative mode. And once you beat a curtain boss the world will be set to hard mode in wich stronger enemies spawn.) I’ll post the comment for now but I might make a second one.
