Despite everything, I still really liked this game overall, and thought the story was fun. The game felt specially good when playing as ryuji, since I had just finished playing the second game by the time.

Yakuza dead souls is a game that could've never come out before or after its time. Like the fact that this was the only Yakuza spin-off to come stateside and this was during the time where these games weren't as big as they are now and when Japanese game devs were trying to appeal to the western market in the most shallow way possible due to the due to the Japanese games industry being at a low.

I'm kinda glad I played this game really early on in my Yakuza lineup, I remember playing Yakuza 1 when I was 9... I wish I was a bit older at that point so I could have appreciated it a more developed mindset. Back to my story. One day, when I was about 13-14, I saw a Yakuza game and bought it on sight. The end. I really liked the game and I thought it was fun, I never really was one for giving a shit about bad frame rate or wonky controls (I was a poor kid, seeing as I didn't get a lot of games that often, I put up with what I got) so I guess I liked it a bit more than I would now. Although, I do wholeheartedly admit that this game is very flawed.

To me, Dead Souls is canon. Nobody important died, Goda is back (YAAAAY)and his death in 2 wasn conclusive anyway, he got shot about as many times as Kiryu did)) and by the end they clean everything up anyway. I like the game too, apart from using left stick to aim in aimy-mode, the molotov zombies, the tackling zombies and the sniper-heavy boss fight(protip, use a minigun) I quite enjoyed Dead Souls. In fact this video made me want to play it again

I feel the same way honestly. I had plenty of fun playing the game still, and I alluded to as much near the end there as well. But I can't really review it and not bring up all the camera issues and stuff either.

I picked up a second hand PS3 a couple of weeks ago to try some of the games i didn't get first time round and i'm actually sorta kinda enjoying Dead Souls. It has the same high production values as the rest of the seires - The characters look great, the voice acting is movie quality and the city is stupidly detailed but MAN THE FUCKING COMBAT CONTROLS! NNNNNNNNNNNNGGGHH!!!! It's the first Yakuza game i've played where i didn't bother doing any side quests because i wanted it to be over with as soon as possible.

I think it's a great game. I don't really understand why any of its issues are deal-breakers for anyone. For example, yes, the game's auto-aim doesn't work fantastically on stairs. But throughout the mainline series I spend half of every fight cursing at my character for comboing into the far winds facing away from any one of the multitude of goons trying to crack his skull, regardless of what direction I'm pressing, regardless of holding the alleged 'enemy lock-on' button, regardless of how many days ago i stopped pressing the attack buttons, and yet I still love those games.

I think it's because he hasn't played any of the other games. Like I said, it still has all of the crazy open world stuffl, so if you view this game purely on its own, it might look a lot more impressive.

i love this game. never notice any isue with the control and mostly i use manual aim for head shoot. the only thing i hate (same with other yakuza gamnes) is i need to repeat mini games that i 100% in previous games.

I actually feel the exact opposite about aiming. Aiming with the left stick is way better. For horror games anyway. Being cemented to the ground when you aim is the best. It’s really hard to aim with my right thumb, which is why I don’t play shooters on consoles. However I’ve got pin point accuracy with my left thumb. Likely because I grew up with an N64.

I actually legit liked this game, batshit stupid with ridiculous enemy counts and over the top action combined with some oddly great atmosphere, the controls aren't too bad when you get used to them, you can chain head shot an entire horde in about 30 seconds if you know what you're doing, the tight corridors suck massive ass tho i will agree, a completely unnecessary and crap game that doesn't take itself seriously or demand to be taken seriously but there's a lot of fun to be had, and Shun Akiyama with dualies is one of the best eyecandy things to exist lol

It's worth getting into, definitely. And this one is still pretty fun if you're a fan, so by the time you finished Yakuza 4, you might as well give it a try.
