A lot of choices for Expat in the Philippines. Cagayan de Oro, Siargao, Palawan, Baguio City, Metro Manila, Bataan, Davao, Cebu, Vigan, Bacolod, Subic and many others.

Good to know info. I am retiring in three weeks. My Filipina wife and I have decided to settle in Dumaguete. We spent one month there in 2023 and found much of what you say to be true. Although my wife is from Zamboanga City, she has lived in the UAE for the last 22 years and has become somewhat "westernized." So, she understands my desire to have access to certain foods, etc. She does have family members near Dumaguete, and they have already helped us with navigating some of the hurdles involved with our relocation. However, I am always looking for additional opinions and thoughts on life there. Thanks for sharing yours.

Vegan here. Eating out will be a challenge for me. Fortunately I love to cook vegan food. As I only eat out a couple of times a monthly when the weather is nice, I can adjust to not dining out in Dumaguete. I checked Dumaguete’s population on Wikipedia. It is slightly bigger than Ann Arbor.

As a filipino we choosed dumaguete for our kids to study... Although we are living very near to bacolod and near access to cebu, we prefer dumaguete for convinience in our daily life activities for our kids and ourselves... My wife and I spent one week every month with our kids in dumaguete. ❤🇵🇭

Hi Alex I have been twice and planning on moving there next spring for all the reasons you mentioned. I grew up by the sea and I like a large town / small city level of energy which Duma has. Nearby it has the mountains and easy ferry access to other islands and as you say the airport for further excursions. I found Manilla and Cebu to be just another noisy smelly city. But the province is too isolating for me. Duma is the perfect balance.

I'm glad we don't live in Dumaguete. I am a foreignor married here for several years and want to be surrounded by Filipinos. If I wanted foreignors, I would have moved back to America.

@EasternDreamer615 ,., My first time watching your video (will subscribe), I'm a retired US Military expat living in Cebu City right now for over 4 years and thinking of moving to a smaller place. A short hop to Dumaguete to look around and get the feel of the place is on my to do list. I have a few questions for you. 1) Is there a China bank in Duma? My US ATM card could withdraw 20K pesos at a time from it, so it save me fees in a long run. 2) Are housing or apartments readily available and what are an average price range to rent for a 1 bedroom and 2 bedrooms? 3) Are extension of visa at immigration easy and fast by doing it yourself? 4) How often are brown outs there? (per week). I'm living in a condo now and we have generators. 5) Are the internet reliable there? does it cover all of Dumaguete or just down town area? Thanks.

Hey John, thanks for enjoying the video. There is a China Bank location here, maybe multiple. Housing is not as easy to find here. I do extensions myself. Brown outs are inconsistent. Internet is decent here but not perfect.

Most Americans eat fast food like McDonald's, Popeyes, Burger King is not really healthy, unless you eat salad and steaks. I think Filipino food is ok, try not to eat to much fry food, try Filipino soup and grilled seafood and meat, try not to eat fried foods. Thank you and GOD Bless! JESUS is LORD over the Philippines. Dumaguete isn't for everyone. Who likes to live in Duma, goodness. I have a place over an hour from Duma by beach. Dumaguete is cramp, but outside dumaguete just few minutes away is pretty and we love it. Esp our place on outer town from Duma, I haven't seen a foreigner.
