Thank you for diving into this awesome project. Started by Martijn Westerholt (founder of the Dutch symphonic metal band Delain, former keyboardist of Within Temptation) to have an outlet where he could create lush orchestral fantasy music. Highly influenced by fantasy movie-score music and Tolkien-type and other fantasy lyrical themes, the music is ethereal and symphonic - unfolding epic and elegant storyscapes in the mind. Martijn teamed up with American lyricist Robin La Joy (his wife and a Professor of Tolkien literature), a life-long fantasy enthusiast who spends much of her time immersed in books, particularly the works of Tolkien and as you commented, Johanna Kurkela whose angelic voice brings the fantasy to full life. Also contributing to the project is Finnish orchestral arranger and producer Mikko P. Mustonen whose incredible talent in classical arranging adds the final magical touch to the music. Melian is a character from Tolkien. An Ainu renowned for her wisdom, beauty, and magical singing. Troy from Nightwish and Auri contributes flutes and pipes on a number of Eye of Melian songs (Doorway of the Night, Under the Grey Sky, Rainfall). LEAH contributes vocals on Light. Doorway of the Night is inspired by the Tolkien Two Trees of Valinor Recommend Vita Nova next.

This song made me cry. But, they were not sad tears. Rather, they were tears of joy that such beauty exists and that we are fortunate enough to be able to listen to it.

I'm halfway thru the video, but I wanna say: this song is an ode to finitude. Time is the one and only thing we urge to grasp but it keeps escaping from our hands every time... thus, we have to make the most of what we (still) have. It's deep and lovely. ❤ Edit: your comments got me thinking also... especially when you talked about chasing dreams. I wanna start singing and playing again, but I let so many shit convince me I can't do it anymore - even though I'm good at it. Maybe it's time to change.

Sometimes just taking steps without thinking "Will this work, will this stick, etc" Helps. I have to not even think sometimes and just do.

@@TheWolffAndTheMelody that's my main problem: overthinking 🥺 I've been trying to change that, though...

Do it, if nothing else then for yourself. I took up guitar again after 20 years, as I told myself I've never be good enough. Now I do it for fun, and I've never stopped singing, I probably never will. Good luck! ❤

Ok....this sounded like it would be on that old movie "Legend" with Tim Curry. The violin was epic in this. I enjoyed every bit of it.

Tommy...the past is the past..tomorrow is yet to unfold..the NOW..right this minute is what we can focus on..We can look back and regret the time lost...but it's only lost if we don't learn from it..Our time here is finite. Johannas' voice has such a purity that it's other worldly.. The tempo of the music and the run of the lyrics is a perfect illustration of the fleeting of time... Stunning! Take care ! 🤗🦋

Lovely, just beautiful! Parts of the music gave me shivers, and the message... wow! We are all granted a finite amount of time here on this mortal earth, it is up to us to make the most and live the best life we can. Love it, love to here more from them as well. ❤ and ✌️ all!

Musically this was very calming, I could listen to it before or after work and it would probably have the same effect. Beyond that I think way too much about what I could've done, or could be doing in the present but I just get stuck in the groove of every day life. Thanks for the encouragement though! I might just start writing again at some point. 🤘🤘

So very glad you finally made it to Eye of Melian, Cosmic. Your obvious love of AURI told me that you would appreciate this project as well. We are talking of the elite talent of Europe, which is where the genius of music resides. Bring an American, I am totally repulsed by most of the music created in my country, but there are a few exceptions. Our music industry has been highly responsible for the dumbing down of our society, and it is beginning to suffer the demise it so well deserves. Glad you found this incredible music. They are related to Within Temptation, a brilliant Dutch symphonic metal band who opened my eyes to this genre decades ago. If you haven't heard them, you must hear Sharon Den Adel, you will love her to the moon. Try "Mother Earth" (my personal favorite) and try the "Frozen" video, in fact, both videos. I know you will love them ... trust me, as you did with this band. Thanks for sharing.
