Tim is from Texas, Austin is from Georgia, and Chance is from Alabama so they all come by their southern accents naturally. If you see any of their live performances, sometimes you will hear them complain about how cold it is in the northern states. There's a video called Southerner in the Snow, where Tim goes to Minnesota in the winter and it's hilarious!

When Tim first left Texas and went out to L.A. he wanted nothing to do with country music. He was writing songs professionally for others, and after several years his employer insisted that he HAD to write a country song. He did not want to, got thoroughly plastered and wrote "Champagne Tastes on a Beer Budget", and it became is most popular creation. When he later started singing professionally he would fill in between gigs substitute teaching high school math. Wrap your head around having Mr. Foust for math. No cowboy here.

He actually was attending university for dentistry before he decided it wasn't for him and packed his bags to move to Minnesota to join an a cappella group. Nope, not Home Free, but a group called Blue Jupiter. His life story is amazing. He kept quitting a cappella and refusing to do country until The Sing-Off execs basically told them if they wanted to compete, they needed to be a country a cappella group. Took Tim a long while to get out of his own way.

I honestly believe that Pentatonix messed up with Avi, they underutilized his talents, and towards the end you could see the light missing from Avi's eyes. The best part of seeing him solo is how at peace he looks. His eyes are bright, his smile is back, and he is confident again. I love to see it, makes my heart happy.

@@godzilla1854 Exactly! That's how it should be - it's a group, everyone should get their moment in the spotlight, and for more than just being able to hit low notes. Avi is such an incredible musician in all ways, the heights Pentatonix could have reached by tapping into that potential... 🤷🏻‍♀️ Not to hate on Pentatonix, I appreciate and enjoy their music, and I am happy to see that they seem to have learned from their mistakes, because they include Matt in a lot of songs.

It's almost too much, isn't it, having Tim and Avi together in one song. Avi's solo work is phenomenal, I am just surfacing from a deep dive into his music, and I am shook for life! Also, Adam is not a world champion, he has said himself he has never competed, nor intends to. Between HF and his family, he doesn't have the time, and he has also said he doesn't feel the need to prove himself. He's very humble about his skills.

Home Free are the ones who did Folsom Prison Blues. When they ddi this song first time on the Sing Off they did a one bass version that's a bit different where Tim went even lower. Tim is from Texas, but he can actually switch the accent off if he wants to. Given that they sing country he doesn't need to, but he can. Austin however can not switch off his accent (he's from Georgia). And Chance as the 3. Southener from Alabama seems to hardly have a southern accent. and I send you a link to Tim singing "Home under the gum tree" on a different video.

You should really do The Sing Off series, that's the first time they did this and it blew the judge's minds! The series really shows them starting as a good State Fair level group and growing so much in that short time. If you do it, please do them in order & include the judge's comments & extra content. You really will get more out of it, as well as more insight into the group in general. The addition of Avi here not only fills out the bottom so much when Tim is singing (in The Sing Off, Chris sang bass when Tim took lead) but also really highlights how 2 people can sing the same notes but sound so different! I love your reactions! ❤ A lot of us can't help stimming when those low notes hit!! Huge hugs! ❤💙💜🤗

Avi is Singular. Probably the most amazingly talented Singer/Songwriter out there, IMHO. If you are delving in to his solo work, "Change on the Rise" is one of his biggest songs (definitely most requested) but can;t go wring with: "It Is Well" "It Knows Me" "Quarter Past Four" "The Summit" "Hey Ya" (cover)... O hell, I wont just list off everyting but, really, I could. Saw him live in December and I screamed and cried so much. It was certainly undignified for a man of my age, but who cares though. This song is done in a country reggae beat. It showcases the higher & lower ranges of both Tim Foust & Avi Kaplan. That last note of Tim is impressive with how low he goes, but more impressive is how long he sustains the note. On the "Sing Off Show" that Home Free won in 2013 Tim goes even lower on this song "Ring Of Fire" & he impressed the judges so much that they gave them a standing ovation. And Adam Rupp once again was stellar in his vocal percussion.

I absolutely adore their version of this classic Cash song! Avi's voice is so smooth in the upper registers, with a gorgeous growl in the lower notes. Much as Avi brings to the table, I still prefer the performance from the Sing-Off - Tim did some vocal gymnastics that wowed the judges and made me fall hard for the entire group. You'll love going through all the performances when you get to that - just watch them in order, and for a few laughs make sure to watch with judges' reactions/comments. The timbre you're talking about in Tim's (and Austin's) voice is called twang. Austin is from Georgia, Tim's from Texas. Both trained the country out of their voices before joining Home Free, then had to drag it out of the closet to suit the group's needs. We don't complain, do we? ;) Yes, you've gotta listen to Champagne Taste! Make sure to follow it with 'Full of Cheer' - both written by Tim, Full of Cheer is kind of a sequel to Champagne Taste. They're both hilarious, but even more so if you listen to them together!

Ring of Fire in a more modern, somewhat reggea-like version, but still respecting the original. More than 4 years ago this was the first video I saw/heard from Home Free. I got there because I was listening to Pentatonix at the time and Avi was my favorite. Immediately there was something that drew me to Home Free. From then on I followed them and after I think 2 videos I was a real Home Fry. I hardly follow PTX anymore. Avi still does, because Avi Kaplan and Home Free let me feel music and not just hear it. Their great harmonies, the unbelievably good beatboxing/vocal percussion and of course that incredible deep bass that makes the ground vibrate and your speakers explode. Personally, I thought Avi fit better with Home Free than with PTX. But that's my opinion 😊

Your opinion is very, very correct. I would love for Avi, Tim and Chance to all just have a "bass off" in the middle of a HF cover.

Tim is from south Texas. Before he joined Home Free, he had an employee/patron in who wanted to make him a solo country singer.
